Chapter 224 The Countryside

Chapter 224: Rural

Chapter 224: Rural

The operation started a few hours later. When the operation was about to begin, I realized that this food station was far less simple than I thought. Not only was there a gun-aided radar, there were more than a dozen helicopters we needed, it could be said to be a secret military base.

The soldiers of the Special Reconnaissance Brigade were divided into two teams. One team was led by Lin Xue and stood on standby on the helicopter in the grain station as planned. All personnel were ready for combat on the helicopter. The helicopters were waiting to fly. As soon as they received my order, they would arrive at the scene within a few minutes to start fighting. The other team was led by me, and in fact, they were the platoons of their hometown people. There was no need to say about the mission. Of course, they followed the convoy to protect the safety of the gun aiming.

"Battery Commander!" Before leaving, the people from my hometown handed me a cigarette, raised their heads to the convoy and said, "They have already done some thoughts. Look, there are some things hanging behind the car. Maybe we can't tell which radar is the real one!"

"Yeah!" I took the cigarette and nodded. The people in my hometown said it was right. Although the fake radar was not done well, the soldiers of the guards got some things that looked similar to the cannon-aiding radar. They were all covered with camouflage nets like real cannon-aiding radars. It was not easy to distinguish them in this dark night.

"Report to the battalion commander!" Company Commander He jogged in front of me and saluted: "All the troops are ready, please give me instructions!"

Company Commander He is the company commander of the alert team. I only met him the moment I walked into the warehouse. I was not very old, but I showed a kind of ability and quickness in every move. According to Chief of Staff Zhang, although he had not participated in the counterattack, he had supported Vietnam to fight the Americans, and it was not short.

"Yeah!" I nodded and asked casually: "Where is the real gun aiming radar arranged in the convoy?"

"Report to the battalion commander, in the middle and rear!" Company Commander He stepped forward and replied: "The superiors believe that being arranged in the front is prone to being attacked by the enemy!"

Without thinking, I responded: "Arrang the gun aim radar to the third car!"

"This..." Commander He looked at Staff Zhang standing beside me with some embarrassment when he heard this.

Staff Officer Zhang was a little unhappy and said, "What's this? Didn't you hear the order I gave? Unconditionally obey Captain Cui's order!"

"Yes!" Captain He stepped forward, and then turned around and executed my order without any hesitation.

Seeing this, I couldn't help but praise him secretly. Staff Zhang is indeed a smart person. As the saying goes, no doubt about the use of people, but no doubt about people. Staff Zhang can only let me be fully responsible at this time. However, I gave this order not to test, but to think... the superiors would think that the middle and rear part of the convoy were safer and the front part was easily attacked, so the Vietnamese agents could also think that from this perspective, it would be safer to place the gun aiming radar in the front part.

After shook hands with Lin Xue, Li Zhifu and others, I waved my hand and took my hometown people and his soldiers on board the car. With the roar of the car, the convoy drove out the grain team.

The convoy consists of twelve cars. Originally, a warning company and a special reconnaissance platoon only required four cars, but doing so would make the target too obvious. On the other hand, if there is an emergency, it is not convenient to deploy troops, so more than twice as many cars are arranged. Anyway, the value of cars coming from the gun aiming radar is almost negligible.

The five soldiers on the tricycle were driving in front of the convoy, either holding submachine guns or carrying light machine guns. One of their tasks was to go ahead to reconnaise, and the other... they were to walk ahead to try if there were landmines on the road...

Such a convoy looks prone to attack. I know very well that no matter how good the quality of the soldiers sitting in the car is, as long as a few rockets come, we can still burn the people in the car into roasted pigs. We don’t even have any time to react, let alone fight back.

But I soon discovered that things were not as simple as I thought, because after the convoy turned a corner, two camouflaged tanks suddenly emerged from the darkness, one in front and one behind, protecting the convoy.

"Battery Commander He!" I shouted to the intercom, "Why did no one tell me that there were tank escorts?"

I have to admit that I was shocked by these two tanks. I thought that the Vietnamese agents had such great ability to find tanks to attack the convoy in our country!

"What?" Company Commander He replied in surprise: "Don't the battalion commander know? I...I thought Staff General Zhang had told you..."

I couldn't help but sweat when I heard this. Our emergency operations could indeed catch the Vietnamese agents off guard, but in some aspects we ourselves were not fully prepared. But then again, even if the army now has many coordination problems on the battlefield, let alone here.

At this time, I was worried that the agents of the Vietnamese army were the agents, and they were acting hastily, so it was impossible for them to carry many heavy weapons. In this case, they saw tanks escorting... would they dare to launch a raid on our convoy?

What if they don’t launch a surprise attack, we will not lose much. At most, it will be a waste of effort and effort, and it can also ensure the safety of the artillery radar. It would be even better if they launch a surprise attack. If they solve them, there is no need to worry anymore!

The car drove forward at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour on the road. The reason why it maintained this speed was because the tanks ahead had difficulty driving in the dark night. As I learned on the battlefield, the night vision instrument of our tanks was very low, even if they were driven on this road.

The lights of a few searchlights shot towards the surroundings like sharp swords, and kept sweeping around, just like a few glowing eyes, paying attention to the movements around them at all times.

It should be said that the alert team was well prepared. These searchlights were installed on the top of the car, and behind each searchlight, there was a soldier holding a light machine gun on standby. It is conceivable that as soon as they noticed any movement, they would shoot rows of bullets at the target without hesitation...

However, I know that these preparations are far from enough. There has never been any airtight defense in this world, nor is there any defense without flaws. The problem is whether the Vietnamese agents can find this flaw and quickly formulate a combat plan.

Can they do this? I don't know! Somewhere in my heart I hope they can do it, because only in this way the efforts we put in are meaningful, but I hope they can't do it, because I have experienced too many fighting and killing for this so far. Now that I left the battlefield and returned to the rear, I suddenly felt like I wanted to rest, but I didn't know if the Vietnamese agents would give me this opportunity to rest...

At first I thought that the Vietnamese military agents would attack us, but as time passed by, my confidence disappeared little by little. According to Staff Zhang, the time we arrived at the airport from the grain station was only a dozen minutes. Even if our march was not fast, it would take more than twenty minutes now.

That is, now it is only a few minutes away from the airport. There are large troops of our army at the airport. In other words, in case of an emergency, the troops at the airport will only take a few minutes to arrive. It is obviously unwise to launch an attack here. Of course, the soldiers also knew this very well, so the originally tight nerve gradually relaxed.

Maybe I overestimated the Vietnamese agents, is it because the time is too hasty and they don’t have time to prepare? Or are their intelligence work not done properly and they don’t know that we are taking action tonight? Or... they find out that this is a trap we set against them? But no matter what, we are using real radar, and even if they know it is a real trap, they will jump down...

Just as I was thinking about it, the convoy turned a corner along the road and entered a small village. Like other villages, except for a few street lights, it was dark everywhere. At first glance, nothing was strange, but I felt something was wrong... It was too quiet, and there was no barking at all, and when our tanks were rumbling by, the villagers did not wake up and let them stick their heads out to take a look...

Suddenly I understood the reason why the Vietnamese agents have not taken action until now. All our preparations were aimed at the fact that the Vietnamese army would emerge from the woods or grass next to the road to launch a raid on us, but never thought that they would use the villages and civilians!

I couldn't help but curse myself in my heart. How could I not think of this? The Vietnamese army is very good at using civilians as shields in their own country. Moreover, it is still in China. The civilians here are all Chinese... Once the fight starts, the Vietnamese agents will not have any concerns, but we will be afraid of them...

"Every unit is vigilant!" Thinking of this, I immediately ordered to the walkie-talkie: "Start through the residential area and transfer the helicopter team immediately!"

"yes!"

"yes!"

...

After a few answers, all the soldiers flew guns like they had been fired and prepared for the battle. The driver also stepped on the accelerator and rushed forward with enough horsepower.

However, everything was too late. Just as the convoy turned a corner along the highway in the village, a sudden sound of grenade explosions and the whistling of rockets suddenly sounded behind him.
