China Immortal Grade Test
When I was a child, I often saw some puzzling plots: For example, Yuanshi Tianzun in the List of Gods, joined forces with his senior brother, Daode Tianzun to break the Zhuxian formation of the leader of the Jie Sect. At that time, I was extremely puzzled. Since I was called "Yuanshi" Tianzun, how could I have a senior brother? If there is a senior brother, there must be a master, who is the master? For example, the Zhenyuan Immortal who planted life fruit in "Journey to the West", claimed that he only worshiped "Heaven and Earth" and was a friend of the "Three Pure Land". Who is the "Three Pure Land"? Where is this extremely senior Zhenyuan Immortal who is the extremely senior? Recently, I have collected some information one after another, and took the weekend to sort out the context of the Chinese immortals. Here are the following:
The first generation of gods: founding Yuanling
Some say: At the beginning of the birth of the universe, there was an innate Yuan Ling of Hunyuan. The spiritual orifice was first opened and gradually became wise. This Yuan Ling accidentally obtained the magical artifact of creation at the beginning of the universe in Xi Kunlun. After countless lifetimes of practice, Yuan Ling's merits were fulfilled and the Tao was achieved. In the long and unbearable chaotic universe, the founder Yuan Ling became the only "sober" in the universe. In order to fulfill a mysterious mission of some agreement, the founder Yuan Ling used the supreme artifact of the creation artifact.
There are nowhere to find four creatures with different images and spiritual orifices. The founding Yuanling taught four small creatures a method of practice: the eldest Hongjun, who practices "Xuanqing Qi", the second Hunkun, who practices "Xuanling Qi", the third Nuwa, who practices "Xuanhua", the fourth Lu Ya, who practices "Xuanming Qi", and when combined, they become "Qingling Kongming". Later generations respect them as the ancestor Hongjun, the ancestor Hunkun, the ancestor Nuwa Niangniang and Lu Ya Daojun.
The second generation of gods: Hongjun ancestor, Hunkun ancestor, Nuwa nunniang, Lu Yadaojun
1. The ancestor of Hongjun. The ancestor of Hongjun cultivates "Xuanqing Qi" and is the Taishang Laojun (Daode Tianzun), Yuanshi Tianzun, and the master of the leader of Tongtian Sect. It is said that the Taoist Hongjun is the ancestor of all immortals, also known as the "ancestor of Hongyuan". Hongyuan refers to the original state of the universe when the heaven and earth are not opened and the void is not divided. Therefore, in "The Romance of the Gods", there is a saying that "Hongjun first comes next to heaven, and Lu Ya Taoist is still ahead."
2. Master Hunkun. Master Hunkun cultivates "mysterious spirit energy". He has countless disciples. The most proud part is that he has two great disciples. The eldest disciple is called Jie Yin Taoist (that is, the later Buddha Tathagata), and the second disciple is called Zhunti Taoist (that is, the ancestor Bodhi, and the master of Sun Wukong). The two have a deep understanding of Taoism and jointly founded a sect called Western Buddhism, with the title of the Great and Small Masters.
3. Nuwa Niangniang. Nuwa Niangniang, cultivated "mysterious air". Nuwa has always been like a human-headed snake body. She is aloof by nature and does not speak much. However, she has a broad mind and has ambition of compassion for the heaven and the earth. After her nephew Yuanshi Tianzun carved out a world with an axe, Nuwa Niangniang was pitying the creation of the universe and all things. So she used water and yellow mud to imitate the appearance of her junior brother Lu Ya, and pinched countless men and women clay people, blew a breath and put it on the ground, and they all came alive. Later, people felt the merits of Nuwa's creation of human beings and respected him as Nuwa. When Nuwa repaired the sky, she left a stubborn stone left, and was unwilling to be a mediocre sky repair stone, and she sneaked out. That was the later generations of heavenly stone monkey Sun Wukong.
4. Lu Ya Daojun. The first three disciples of the four great disciples of Yuan Ling have profound Taoism, created the world, and established sects. Only the fourth disciple Lu Ya Daoren, who was a fool of himself by nature and had no reputation left. His nephew, Taishang Laojun, Tathagata, etc., still respected him as his junior uncle, and those who knew him also respected him as Lu Ya Daojun. Among the younger gods, there was a vague one. Lu Ya Daoren is the essence of Lihuo. Flying out of the three realms is not in the five elements. He did not pay attention to the Three Saints of Fire, and did not pay attention to the Yaochi and the Heavenly Emperor; not in the three religions, nor in the Pure Land. He did not belong to the human king's jurisdiction, nor in the underworld. Xiaoxiao let me wander, and was free to scatter the holy immortals.
The third generation of gods: Daode Tianzun, Yuanshi Tianzun, Tongtian Sect Master, Guizhi Taoist (Tathagata Buddha), Shunti Taoist (Bodhi Patriarch), Zhenyuan Daxian, etc.
1. The great disciple of the ancestor Hongjun, also known as Laozi, Taishang Laojun, is a genius of heaven and immortality, and is like the endless rivers of rivers, or like the Yellow River flooding and uncontrollable. He can transform the three purities into one qi, and cultivate the realm of "Taixuan Qingqi" from the true body of the ancestor Hongjun. He is obviously better than blue, so that the "Xuanqing Qi" can be innovated and carried forward. He also created a sect called Taoism, which is full of glory.
2. Yuanshi Tianzun. Pangu, the second disciple of the ancestor Hongjun, was appreciated by the mortals of later generations, and they all respected Pangu as Yuanshi Tianzun. Pangu cultivated the realm of "Yuanxuan Qingqi" passed down by the ancestor Hongjun, and created a sect called "Yuanxuan Qingqi" and received countless disciples, especially the "Twelve Sects of Yuxu", which were famous, namely: Guangchengzi, Chi Jingzi, Taiyi Zhenren, Manjushri Guangfa Tianzun, Samantabhadra, Cihang Taoist, Huanglong Zhenren, Taoist Heavenly Lord, Qingxu Daode True Lord, Yu Ding Zhenren, and Yun Zhongzi.
3. Tongtian, the leader of Tongtian, the third disciple of the ancestor Hongjun, once cultivated the realm of "super Xuanqing Qi" in the "Xuanqing Qi" passed down by the ancestor Hongjun. It was also integrated and perfect, which was extremely impressive. It also created a sect called Ji Sect, with countless disciples under his command. Later, the twenty-four constellations, Lei Gong and Dingmu, and the stars of the Jade Emperor were almost all his disciples. Later, they all respected him as the Heavenly Venerable of Lingbao, and some respected him as the leader of Tongtian.
4. Buddha of Tathagata, also known as Taoist Taoist, the great disciple of the ancestor Hunkun, and the great leader of the Western religion. The Taoist Taoist Taoist's soul was transformed into the prince of Gautama Siddhartha, the prince of Kapilava, and was practicing the reincarnation and asceticism; the little prince Gautama Siddhartha was a pervasive immortal heart. A genius man sat alone under a Bodhi tree, and suddenly realized the great way. Everyone called him "Buddha" and respected him as the Venerable Sakyamuni. Since then, Sakyamuni has become a sect, called Buddhism, and later annexed the Western religion.
5. Bodhi Patriarch, also known as Zhunti Taoist, the second disciple of Hunkun Patriarch, and the young leader of the Western religion. Zhunti Taoist did not know what happened between him and his senior brother (it was probably because Western religion was annexed by Buddhism), but his mysterious disappearance and no trace ever came to his death. Many years later, Sun Wukong worshipped Bodhi Patriarch to learn art and learned a surprising Taoist Dharma; Bodhi Patriarch taught Sun Wukong that his name must not be told to others, which is related to the Buddha Tathagata.
6. Zhenyuan Daxian. Also known as "Zhenyuanzi", he claimed that "Three Qings" was his friend and "Four Emperors" was his old friend". Zhenyuanzi only served the incense of the word "Heaven and Earth". His disciples also said: "'Heaven' can still be respected, but 'Earth' cannot bear our incense. Zhenyuanzi is the ancestor of the earth immortal, and respecting "Heaven and Earth" may be harmonious. His position in Taoism is in line with Yuqing, Shangqing, and Taiqing. It is probably the disciple of Nuwa Niangniang or Lu Ya Daojun. (Note: Daode Tianzun, Yuanshi Tianzun, and Tongtian Sect Master are the three purity of Taoism: Taiqing, Yuqing, Shangqing)
The fourth generation of gods: Tang Monk, Sun Wukong (stage of "Journey to the West"); Yuxu Twelve Sons (Guangchengzi, Taiyi Zhenren, Manjushri Guangfa Tianzun, Samantabhadra Zhenren, Cihang Taoist, etc.), Jiang Ziya, Shen Gongbao, etc. (stage of "The Investiture of the Gods"). (Not listed below);
The fifth generation of gods: Yang Jian (Erlang Shen), Tu Xingsun, Lei Zhenzi, Nezha, Muzha, Jinzha, etc. (not mentioned below).
At this point, the previous mystery suddenly became clear. During the process of sorting out, some very interesting things were also found: for example, Sun Wukong had crossed multiple generations alone: as the stubborn stone smelted when Nuwa repaired the sky, it should be counted as the third generation (can Jia Baoyu be Sun Wukong's junior brother?), the fourth generation should be counted as the fourth generation when he studied art from the Bodhi Patriarch, and the fifth generation should be counted as the fifth generation when he became a sworn immortal with Zhenyuan. For example, the identities of each mythical figure are constantly changing in different historical periods, such as in "The Investiture of the Gods", the "Yuxu" under the sect of Yuanshi Tianzun
Among the Twelve Sons, Manjushri Guangfa Tianzun, Cihang, and Samantabhadra, who came to "Journey to the West" and evolved into Manjushri Bodhisattva, Guanyin Bodhisattva and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva under the Tathagata. Even the third generation of Taoist Taoist, Zhunti Taoist, was a Taoist figure in "The Investiture of the Gods", and in "Journey to the West", they also became Buddhas of Tathagata and Bodhi Patriarch respectively. This also proves from the perspective that Taoism and Buddhism are constantly influencing and gradually integrating each other, and also reflects the fact that Buddhism was the most important and prosperous religion at that time in the Tang Dynasty.
