Chapter 48 Seeking

At nine o'clock in the morning, the sun shone brightly.

Outside the office building of the Magic7 factory, dozens of workers wearing short-sleeved shorts gathered. One of the big men in black shirts and sun hats were surrounded by everyone, and they were obviously the leader.

One person came to him and muttered, "Martin, can this happen?"

The leader Martin was about forty, and had a strong body. He stood for almost an hour without even sweating on his head. He lifted his hat and said confidently: "No problem. Since they agreed to the negotiations, they didn't run away."

"We have organized so many people, and these capitalists are afraid of this. That's what GM colleagues do."

"Besides, are our requirements unreasonable? Now the price is one price per day, beef costs $1 per pound, a pair of nylon socks costs $5, and a shirt costs $15. If this continues, can we support our family with less than $100 this week? Can we do this?"

"So everyone wait. As long as everyone works together, everyone will get a higher salary immediately."

"Come on, those who are in the office should be coming soon, we shouted the slogan - we want to live, we want to raise the salary!"

Martin encouraged everyone with great enthusiasm.

As long as I succeed, I will be able to stand out.

Just as everyone was shouting slogans with high ambitions, a person walked out of the office building.

He is Carl, and was sent to pass the message: "Everyone of Magic Labor (the union organized by Martin), please send a representative to come with me!"

Martin took his two younger brothers out of the crowd, came to Carl and said, "We are!"

Carl didn't even give him a direct eye and turned around and was about to enter the building. It seemed that he didn't care who came.

Martin's face sank, his mouth twitched, and he endured the shame of being ignored, and followed silently.

The negotiations were arranged in a temporary meeting room, with a long conference table in the middle, three meters wide. There were three people on the union side, and the factory seemed to be participating in the negotiations.

As soon as he entered the door, Carl said, "Please sit down."

There were only three chairs, Martin sat in the center, and the other two sat down.

Opposite Martin, sitting in the center is the factory director Davidson. On the left is Ted Webber, the quality manager, and on the right is Carl who came in with Martin.

Seeing this seat, Martin was a little surprised - why General Manager Carl didn't sit in the main seat.

Is the legend true? This Carl is just a rubber stamp?

It's a bit troublesome now. Davidson is not easy to deal with.

Martin remained silent and suddenly found that there was a seventh person sitting in the conference room. It was a young man, sitting at the end of the table on Davidson's right, holding a pen in his hand, and a stack of white paper was placed on the table in front of him.

"Davidson, everyone, don't talk, let's start." Martin suddenly looked at the young man as he spoke: "It's not good if there are outsiders during negotiations..."

Davidson glanced at the man, stared at Martin without squintingly, and said, "He is the secretary, who records the content of our conversation, not an outsider, you don't have to worry about it."

After explaining it lightly, Davidson said seriously: "Mr. Ralston, Mr. Frank Markey, and Tom McClure, thank you for participating in this bilateral meeting of labor and capital."

"Before the meeting begins, I will introduce myself first. My name is Jason Davidson, Deputy General Manager of Magic7 Company and Director of Manufacturing Department. I am entrusted by the Magic7 Company Board of Directors to be fully responsible for presiding on this meeting. I am surrounded by Mr. Carl Patton and Mr. Ted Webber, and they will also participate in this meeting."

"The purpose of this meeting is to solve the problem that workers are dissatisfied with their wages, and that they are absent from work, which leads to the inability to operate normally..."

"Stop!" Martin was already a little impatient with Davidson's official words. When he heard that he said the strike was absent from work, he immediately interrupted: "Mr. Davidson, I must correct it. We are on strike just right, not absent from work."

Davidson frowned in dissatisfaction, but instead of tangling at this point, he sloppyly said: "Whether to be absent from work or a strike, there will be a conclusion later."

"But before that, I have something to confirm..." Davidson looked at the two people sitting next to Martin. They were big and thick, and were more like dock workers than assemblers. "Mr. Markey, and Mr. McClure, both of whom signed formal contracts with our company, are naturally qualified to attend this meeting."

Speaking of this, Davidson looked at Martin with a gaze: "But, Mr. Martin Larston, you don't seem to be our employee. What is your capacity to sit here and what qualifications are you to represent workers in meetings that determine their salary?"

As soon as Davidson said this, Markey and McClure immediately looked at Martin, with a little panic in their eyes.

But Martin was as stable as Mount Tai and even wanted to laugh.

I questioned my qualifications at the beginning and wanted to exclude me? What a ridiculous and useless trick.

Martin replied calmly: "I forgot to declare this in advance. I am the President of the Magic Labor Union and I am entrusted by all union members. I will sit here as the President of the Union and the Attorney."

Martin looked at Davidson with fearlessness and said with a small provocation: "Mr. Davidson, do you need me to present a power of attorney?"

After hearing this, Davidson exchanged views with the two people around him, shook his head at Martin and said, "No need."

"Since that's the case, let's start officially." Martin snatched the initiative and took the lead in making his own request: "On behalf of 813 workers, I made the following requests to the company:

1. Salary renegotiation, and we requested a 15% increase on the original basis;

2. We ask the company to increase its investment in labor protection supplies;

Third, we ask the company to provide lunch and dining places and improve the nutritional level of lunch."

"We ask the company to give a satisfactory reply within 24 hours. Otherwise, we will continue to strike and protest in 24 hours."

As soon as Martin finished speaking, Carl slapped the table with a palm and said angrily: "Impossible, don't even think about it, you are blackmailing! I want..."

Carl couldn't say the following words and was grabbed by Davidson, but Martin could guess what he wanted to say, nothing more than nonsense like threatening to fire or suing you for bankruptcy.

The reason why nonsense is nonsense is because it has no effect even if it is said.

It seems that this Carl is really just a name, and Davidson is the one who is in charge.

Maybe this company was established to give Carl a place to exercise? Humph, but unfortunately it's just a fool.

Martin, who thought he could see through everything, looked at the three people opposite calmly, mainly looking at Davidson, hoping that he could give the result he wanted.

After a brief dispute, Davidson successfully suppressed Carl. He cleared his throat and said, "Well, Mr. Martin, after we seriously consider your request, we still feel that there is some reason."

"First of all, regarding labor protection supplies, it concerns the life safety of workers and the production safety of factories, is already in the company's plan. I can guarantee that you don't have to worry about this."

"Secondly, for dining places, this is also planned. The house being renovated on the west side of the factory is the future canteen. After the canteen opens, you will no longer have to eat out-of-buy lunches, and your nutritional level is also guaranteed."

"As for the salary..."

Davidson said it was extremely smooth, and Martin nodded while listening. Unexpectedly, when the key point came, Davidson started to hesitate.

Martin was anxious for a moment, and threatened with an unhappy expression: "Why, you don't want to agree? Then there is no need to continue..."

As he said that, Martin acted as he stood up and left.

Seeing this, Davidson stood up quickly and tried to stay and said, "Wait, Mr. Ralston, I didn't say I didn't agree. Please sit down and listen to me slowly."
