Chapter 135 Threats (seventh more)
"Dingling!"
With a ringtone, the theater quickly quieted down.
The curtain slowly opened and the musical was officially staged.
"High Heel Button Shoes" is adapted from Stephen Longstreet's semi-autobiographical novel "The Sisters Liked Them Handsome", which tells the story of the Longstreet family and two fraudsters in Atlantic City.
Audrey's scenes at the beginning of the second act, and she plays only one of a group of chorus girls. She doesn't have many scenes, but she needs to sing and dance.
The drama is composed of several nonsensical short films, so the audience often laughs.
This part of Audrey is particularly joyful.
As soon as Audrey appeared, Evan noticed someone in the audience's surprise voices. He observed them specifically and found that these voices came from the commentator's section.
Even among a group of people, Audrey was noticed by these keen-eyed professionals.
Virginia also noticed this, and she said in Evan's ear: "I guess Audrey's name will appear in the newspaper soon."
"You...and Audrey, are you ready?"
Evan hesitated for a moment and replied: "Of course."
To be honest, Evan only briefly experienced what it means to become famous in the small society of California Tech, but this is enough to make him realize that it is not all good things to be with fame.
Evan has a deep understanding of the pervasive media that will bring endless trouble.
Evan knew that he needed to be mentally prepared to deal with all this as soon as possible, because Audrey was about to become famous.
In the second half, Evan's attention was distracted.
"Ba!Ba!Ba!Wow..."
At the end of the performance, the audience gave warm applause, and then all the cast and crew went on stage to end.
Evan saw Audrey smiling brightly on her face surrounded by several girls. He was infected by this smile and laughed out loud.
After the audition ended, Evan and Virginia were not in a hurry to leave.
Backstage of the theater, the investors and creative team of this drama shook hands with the actors one by one and announced that the performance was extremely successful.
Afterwards, director Abbott announced the crew's next arrangement: after the audition, the next official performance will be at the New Century Theater on Broadway, New York. I hope everyone will continue to work hard.
"Everyone knows the arrangement. Let's take a long rest and we will continue rehearsing tomorrow."
As soon as they finished speaking, everyone disbanded immediately.
However, those who disbanded and left were all small characters. The leading actors had been notified long ago and would go to a dinner composed of theater managers and commentators later.
Audrey was not notified, so when the director asked for a break, she rushed to take off her makeup and change her clothes.
She knew Evan must be waiting outside.
"Audrey!" Just as she changed her clothes and was about to leave, producer Monte Proser called her.
After saluting politely, Audrey asked, "Is there anything wrong? Mr. Prose!"
Prose said with a smile: "There is a banquet tonight, Audrey, can you go there?"
Audrey hesitated for a moment and asked, "Mr. Prosay, is it the party that Mr. Abbott and Fabray (starring) group to go to?"
Prose nodded.
Audrey asked again, “Do I have to go?”
"It's not necessary, but I think you'd better go there, many managers and commentators are interested in you... If you go there, there will be a lot of benefits!"
Audrey frowned when she heard this. After a moment of silence, she finally shook her head and refused, "Then I won't go."
"Sorry, Mr. Prosay, I have friends who are still waiting outside, I have to leave!"
After saying that, Audrey nodded to the producer and then left.
However, Prose didn't want to let her go so easily, and reached out to stop her and said, "Audrey, are you no longer thinking about it?"
"You must know how many young and beautiful girls want to show their faces in front of them every year but don't have the chance..."
Audrey interrupted, "Mr. Prosay, I have considered it very clearly! I am willing to give this opportunity to them..."
Prose threatened with a calm face, "You are a member of the troupe, if you still want to continue to star in..."
Audrey's face turned pale when she heard this.
She was angry.
She remembered the past when she was threatened by military officers while in the Netherlands;
She remembered the scenes when she was entangled by two hooligans when she first came to California.
No matter which time, she did not surrender.
Audrey took a deep breath and was about to tear her face and scold the greasy middle-aged man. Abbott walked over.
"Audrey, why are you still here? Evan has been waiting for you for a long time. Why are you standing there? Go back quickly!"
Abbott said to Audrey first, then said to Prosay: "Mont, let's go too, the car to pick us up has arrived."
When Abbot interjected, Audrey had to swallow everything she wanted to say, and then walked out without saying a word.
Before Audrey walked away, Abbott added: "Audrey, you performed well today and look forward to you going further tomorrow!"
Audrey paused and then accelerated her departure.
Prose didn't understand why Abbott was protecting Audrey, and said unhappily: "Abbott, why did she let her leave, just a little girl..."
Abbot said quietly: "She is indeed just a little girl, but what's standing behind her is not..."
...
"Audrey, here!"
Seeing the figure of a friend from afar, Virginia greeted loudly.
Hearing the voice, Audrey, who had originally had a groggy face, immediately smiled and trotted towards Virginia and Evan.
“Awesome acting!”
After hugging Audrey, Virginia and Audrey praised, "It's very good to sing!"
"I'm right, Evan!"
Evan said: "Yes, how could it be wrong?"
"Audrey, how do you feel when you perform in front of so many people for the first time?" asked Virginia.
Audrey said absent-mindedly: "It's okay, just that!"
Virginia said: "Well, no matter what, today is a memorable day. Let's find a place to celebrate?"
"Evan, why don't you choose a place soon!"
Evan thought for a while and said, "How about we go to eat seafood? By the way, there is a hotel nearby that seems to have a seafood restaurant. The rain is still falling, so I think it is the best to be near."
"I think it's good!" Virginia nodded, then looked at Audrey.
After hesitating for a moment, Audrey shook her head and said, "Or why don't we go home and do it ourselves!"
That hotel is exactly where Abbott and the others are going to go.
Evan and Virginia looked at each other and they both saw the abnormality in Audrey.
