Chapter 28 Memoirs of a Veteran
Chapter 28: Memoirs of Veterans
My surname is Liu, and because my birthday is the same as the Republic, I am called Liu Guoqing.
As a member of the Wolf Tooth Special Forces, I participated in every battle we encountered in that self-defense counterattack. Regarding our Wolf Tooth Special Forces, everyone is familiar with our last big battle and has detailed descriptions in many literary and artistic works. But what I want to tell you is not about that battle, because it is a bit of a recurrence.
After our army conquered Sabah, we repaired there for four days. During these four days, we had a good rest, ate well and slept well, and could lick the wound calmly, so everyone had a full fighting spirit and a high desire to fight. The only opposite is our captain, not because the captain was afraid to fight, but he was by no means worse than our team members. It can be seen from his way into the tiger's den and assassination of enemy agents. He was our supreme commander, so he considered not only to complete the task.
Some commanders have courage and a courage that can be used as a guard. However, it is not enough to rely on bloody battles in modern wars. Our captain never wants to exchange the lives of his team members for military merit. At the beginning of the war, the reason why he was willing to be our heads was largely because he hoped that we could all go back alive. Each of us was his brother. Unfortunately, this wish could not be realized, and the final loss was much greater than he had imagined, so that he had been resentful about it.
Without unprepared battles, the captain would repeatedly reconnaise the enemy situation in every operation, observe the terrain carefully, and set up at least three retreat routes. He could be smart and strive for wisdom, and would never be willing to do it recklessly unless he had to. This is also one of the combat principles of every wolf-fang commander.
I clearly remember that we left Sabah County on March 4th, and later I realized that this was the last day before the Military Commission announced its withdrawal. Other troops could retreat, but we could not. We also had to reconnaise the mobilization of the enemy's troops and provide information for our army's operations.
We set out in the evening and just walked out of our army's defense range, it was dark. We all hate walking at night. We couldn't see clearly when we were twenty meters away in the mountains at night, but we had to move forward in the dark because it was difficult to pass through this section during the day. As long as we entered the enemy's hinterland, it would be much safer. Fortunately, we walked this section and conducted repeated reconnaissance on the defensive situation of the enemy's troops during the day.
There were several times when we crawled under the enemy's noses, and moved forward little by little on the ground, not much faster than the snail. At night, the temperature in the mountains was about ten degrees lower than the day, but we were all sweating profusely. I am a medical soldier and a communications soldier. In addition to combat equipment, I also carried communications equipment and rescue supplies. Once my backpack was hooked by a branch. After a few days of rest, I overturned my head excitedly. As soon as I tried, the branch was pulled off and emitted in the dark.
The sound was like someone shouting in my ear. I had already made the worst plan at that time, my heart was beating. If it was exposed, the whole team would be in trouble. Fortunately, the captain learned to call out the bobcats, and the enemy fired a string of machine guns behind me and it would be fine. In fact, in the darkness, the enemy was just as scared as we did. At night, we had an unwritten military rule: to catch the enemy at night, you must lie on the ground and not move, and those who stand just fight. So the enemy is the same, they don’t want to take risks.
I was scolded by the team leader. Although the team members expressed sympathy in their eyes, this was a big or small mistake after all. The team leader comforted me and said, "It's better to make mistakes in advance, at least to prevent myself from making the same mistake before things are irreversible." But I was very ashamed. I promised the team leader that I would not make any mistakes again. The team leader smiled and said that he believed I could do it."
The next day, on the afternoon of March 5, we had already penetrated the enemy's hinterland for at least ten kilometers, and further forward was the plain. The captain asked us to rest for a while, and then reconnaissed the enemy's march routes. At this time, the important town of Lang San in northern Vietnam had fallen into my hands, and my army on the east and west sides had formed a force of attacking Hanoi on both sides. By this time, the four major Soviet-style equipment ace divisions of the Vietnamese army (316a Division, 346th Division, 27th Division) were in the middle of the four major Soviet-style equipment ace divisions (316a Division, 346th Division, 27th Division)
Three were sent to the battle with our army, but one was completely wiped out, two were severely damaged. In addition, the 345th Division of the production division was completely wiped out, and a large number of uncalculable local armed forces were wiped out and militia were captured. On the same day, the Vietnamese government held an emergency meeting, and Hanoi fell into chaos, and people rushed to the south. Thinking about the time when Le Duan had spoken on the radio, saying that she would fight our army in Lang Son. As a result, Lang Son lost it after only one day of fighting, which scared him to move the capital.
To be honest, I didn't understand why our army had withdrawn at all. Some Wolf Teeth team members even encouraged to infiltrate Hanoi and capture Le Duan alive. At that time, I was only a special forces soldier. Although I was a platoon-level special forces member, it was impossible for us to consider this issue from a strategic perspective. On March 5, our government issued a public statement, announcing that the time limit for withdrawal and withdrawal of troops after the self-defense counterattack was reached. This marked the strength of our army's strength and political initiative, indicating that our northern neighbors were just "
Paper tigers, which only scare people, also show that in the Indochina Peninsula, is not a small country that can do whatever it wants. On March 4, each army received an order to withdraw its troops and a notice that our government will issue a statement. In the absence of a military ceasefire, the withdrawal operation should prevent the enemy from counterattacking and attacking, and the task is very arduous. All departments have carefully organized, stipulated the route and time for the retreat of the cover troops, artillery and logistics systems, and designated the main cadres to strengthen command of the rear guard forces.
But we are still moving in the hinterland of the enemy. When we heard the order that the army was about to retreat, we felt a little disappointed. We were the first to go abroad to fight and carry out the most dangerous tasks. Now we are going to withdraw our troops, but we are still fighting. Thoughts, we are very proud. There is a saying that has been said: Those who are capable work harder! I encourage myself in this way.
We moved in the hinterland of the enemy for five days. At that time, the enemy's troops had already retreated to Hanoi, and there were only some strongholds on the front line. After our army announced its retreat, some guerrillas began to rekindle. We encountered some, as long as there were few people, they would be eliminated. We suffered no losses in dealing with these miscellaneous troops. As a result of our retreat, there was some blank areas on the front line, which gave us a lot of room for activity. Our mission was to clarify the mobilization of the enemy's army. Most of them were on-site reconnaissance, monitor the activities of the enemy's radio stations, and clarify the movement of the enemy. At that time, the task of our correspondent was the most important, and they were also protected objects, and even the bunkers were done by other team members. Sometimes we also captured prisoners and obtained intelligence by interrogating the prisoners.
When the enemy discovered that the Chinese were "keep their word" and really retreated, they hurriedly summoned regular informal troops to fill the gap. The Vietnamese People's Daily later claimed:
"When the enemy was forced to withdraw from their troops due to failure, we expressed peace, kindness and morality of release. Let them have a way out without sniping them. When all the invading troops retreated to their countries, we were ready to negotiate at any time to restore friendship with the Chinese people and their country's friendly neighborliness and peaceful coexistence. However, we clearly know that the reactionary forces continue to control the regime in Beijing. They did not give up the hostile policies and conspiracies of aggression and annexation of our country. They await us to relax our vigilance and not recognize their sinister conspiracies and means so that they can carry out new adventures like the Kublai Khan and his son in the past."
We try our best to hide our whereabouts and not actively expose our small force until one afternoon.
That afternoon we walked slowly along the eastern ridge of a highway. We marched for a long distance for several days, and the road was difficult to walk, and we could not walk the road that the mountain people often walked, so everyone was very tired. Seeing that everyone was too tired, the captain asked everyone to stop and rest, replenish the moisture, salt and food.
There was not enough water, so I went to find water with another team member. There was a small lake next to the road below the mountain. We just saw the sun shining on the lake surface on the mountain. We went down carefully because the lake was on the left side of the road, so we were very careful to avoid any enemy troops on the road. When we were about to fetch water, we heard the sound of a car engine coming from the north. Only then did we notice that there was a big tree opposite the road.
The small barracks blocked. They drove over a jeep and a truck. Two people were taken down from the jeep. They were our soldiers. It seemed that they had become prisoners. At this time, several jeeps were driven from the south. The ones from the car were all big-nose foreigners. They looked like foreign journalists. They used their cameras to shoot at the captured soldiers of our army. This was the "major battle result" that the Vietnamese army promoted them. At that time, only a few people were captured by our army, most of whom were left behind or injured.
We were both very excited at that time and wanted to rush forward to rescue our comrades. But the first thing we thought of was to immediately report the captain with the 884 radio station we carried with us. Soon the captain came with his teammates, and the captain immediately decided to rescue these two comrades. This decision was immediately supported by all the team members.
Everyone hid in the shrubs beside the lake to discuss combat plans. The captain analyzed that this was just a transit station for the enemy. The number of enemies was small. It seemed that the enemy would immediately send the prisoners back to the rear. We should take action immediately to prevent the enemy from transferring the prisoners away. Our team leader made his own opinions and was highly valued by the captain. He liked to use his brain in wars. Like the captain, his opinion would most likely be adopted. Therefore, the style of the first chief officer of a unit will greatly affect the future combat style of the unit. We just knew at that time that our team leader had a very good family background. My father was a general, but we didn't know it before.
The captain immediately assigned a task. Our team was responsible for frontal raids and required swimming from the lake to the side of the road. This was the enemy's frontal. We must be careful when acting; one team was responsible for going around the high ground behind the barracks to use firepower to suppress, and the other team carried out side strikes and covers along both sides of the highway. There were only two requirements, namely fast and concealed. These foreign journalists were reporters of the Soviet Union and its satellite countries, and they should be opposite to our country. It is said that the only Western journalist invited by the Vietnamese authorities was a reporter of the Communist Party of Japan. However, after the war, he heard that he died in Lang Son due to artillery fire in our army. These journalists objectively provided us with cover, one was to relax the enemy, and the other was that the enemy would throw rats and be afraid of accidentally hurting these "visitors".
The team responsible for fire suppression went around the back of the enemy's barracks and accidentally encountered three enemy troops patrolling the mountain. The teammates made a quick decision and quietly solved the opponent. If the enemy had time to shoot at that time, our actions would have ended in failure.
When the other team members were in their positions, our team started to act, and the captain was with us. Everyone's backpack had long been handed over to the teammates of the other team, all of which were lightly packed. Because we wanted to swim in an armed manner, we made straws with reeds by the lake and put them in our mouths and carefully entered the water. The water in the mountains was very cold, and I couldn't help but shivered as soon as I went down. The captain was behind me, and he said to me softly, as long as there was a fire in my heart, just hold it back. I think what he said was that my friendly comrades were being asked opposite each other, and in front of so many foreign journalists, we must not let these two strange comrades suffer this crime, so I think what I fear if the water is cold?
We carefully passed through the bottom of the lake. When we arrived at the side of the road, our lips were all blue. Out of the water, we sorted out our respective equipment and passed the information we had prepared from the rear of the team forward. Two trucks were parked above us, and the soldiers on it were now running to the barracks to smoke and chat. One of my teammates, code-named "Xiaodao", was the assaulter. He and our team leader used the cover of the truck to carefully touch the jeep. A Vietnamese officer was standing beside the two prisoners, proudly asking the reporters to take photos.
The reporters asked various questions to the prisoners in various languages. The captain later told us that it was mainly Russian and German, and someone was translating. Of course, what they asked was not good things. Most of the reporters were slandering our army and our government. The two prisoners were very firm and refused to answer the answers they wanted. I was wondering at the time that if they did not hold their position, would our captain turn around and leave?
The captain sent a code of action on the radio. Xiaodao and the team leader immediately ran over from the front of the truck, jumped onto the jeep in three steps and two steps. The reporters were facing them and were stunned for a moment. The two of them jumped toward the two prisoners in front of the jeep. At this time, the sniper ambushed behind the barracks opened fire at the same time, and the heads of the two Vietnamese officers next to the captain immediately bloomed. Our team leader and Xiaodao rushed at this moment.
After a quick look, the reporter hurriedly took the photo. This photo became the most classic battlefield photo: two Chinese soldiers were tied with their hands, with despair in their eyes. Two Vietnamese officers were shot in the head at the same time, but their faces were temporarily retained with a proud expression. The other two Chinese special warriors wearing camouflage uniforms and thick oil paint on their faces jumped down like gods, with strong confidence and the spirit of killing all enemies.
The two prisoners were carried by them and ran back. At this time, our army's firepower team and snipers opened fire together. The enemy troops near the barracks fell down in an instant, and some people didn't know what was going on. When the Vietnamese troops near the highway reacted, the reporters blocked their shooting angle. Some of them wanted to bypass them from the left, and in the area where I was defending, I raised my gun and shot, and I didn't need to aim at it, so I killed about three Vietnamese troops. In this way, we alternately covered and ran south from the highway, while another team ambushed at the intersection gave us strong cover.
Those foreign journalists were so brave. They lie on the ground regardless of the flying bullets, pressing the shutter constantly. I think this is their first close approach to the war. This is absolutely valuable news, if they are willing to make it public. This is also because of the raid of the Wolf Tooth Special Forces, except Vietnam, the existence of the Chinese Wolf Tooth Special Forces for the first time. The wolf totem on our armband is impressive.
This was a successful raid. Only when it was covered, several team members were injured. Later, when we summarized, the captain said that it was mainly because we planned carefully, acted decisively, and cooperated closely, and also to make full use of the enemy's snatching rats and targeted weapons. I also reported and killed three Vietnamese troops in a timely manner because I first discovered this enemy situation, and added another military medal.
