Chapter Eight Nine One Eight (1)

Chapter 8 September 18 (1)

On September 18, 1637, this day may be the "National Shame Day" for the Yamato people. A merchant ship full of cargo disappeared in the waters near Kagoshima, Japan's Satsumatsu. It is suspected that Satsumatsu maliciously sent warships to disguise themselves as pirates because the Ming Dynasty took back the sovereignty of Ryukyu. The Navy's East China Sea Fleet launched a devastating blow to the fleet that had been redeveloped in Japan, Satsumatsu, and the Ming Navy's army was defeated by the Ming Navy's East China Sea Fleet. The Tugala Islands to the Kagoshima Sea have become the world of the Ming Navy.

Those who understand naturally know that this dispute was deliberately provoked by the Ming Dynasty, but the situation is forcing people to be strong. Satsuma Shimazu used to wield the powerful stick to others, but now they are swinging the powerful stick to their heads.

Satsuma Shimazu has not fully recovered its vitality in the Battle of Ryukyu. This powerful vassal in southern Japan has not only greatly reduced its strength, but its influence in Japan has also been severely damaged. Now Satsuma Shimazu is about to cheer up, but it has suddenly returned to its original form.

"September 18" As long as they are from the Satsuma Shimazu family, they will feel crazy whenever they hear this. This is a shame, a shame that the Satsuma Shimazu family will never be able to raise their heads.

The Ming Dynasty proposed four major conditions: "cede land, compensation, establishment of concessions, and opening up trade in all aspects". Of course, this is not for the Japanese shogunate, but for the Satsuma Shimazu family.

The Japanese insistence on territory is indeed not something that many ethnic groups in the world do not have, but the emperor of the Ming Dynasty could believe in good neighborly and friendship. If Satsuma Shimazu did not agree to the conditions proposed by the Ming Dynasty for a day, then the Ming army would not stop attacking. Any islands and land captured by the Ming Dynasty would directly belong to the Ming Dynasty, and would be crossed out from the negotiation conditions and add new land requirements!

The more Satsuma Shimazu insisted, the more heavier the losses, and the more heavier the negotiations would lose their initiative. When the Shimazu family found that they could not hold on, the ceasing of land in the Ming Dynasty's negotiation conditions would be enough to pass the entire Satsuma over, let alone astronomical war compensation.

The Tokugawa shogunate became a turtle with its head shrunk. It was not that Tokugawa Iemitsu did not want to care, but that it had no ability to control it. The Ming Dynasty's military strength now exceeded one million, and its naval strength was even more dominant in Southeast Asia. With the Ryukyu as a springboard, a large number of troops could be mobilized from the country at any time. Once a national war with the Ming Dynasty broke out, Japan would suffer greater losses, so it could only sacrifice Satsuma Shimazu.

Although the Tokugawa shogunate did not want to care, he could not ignore it. He simply protested and asked to intervene in the investigation of the merchant ship robbery. However, the Military Information Department has always been in a state of affairs, so how could the Japanese side catch any handle? All the evidence points to Satsuma Shimazu, and also found the non-part of the cargo loaded by the merchant ship and the bodies of the killed crew at a secret training base of the Satsuma Shimazu family. Not only was the Satsuma Shimazu family in a mess, but even the Japanese shogunate could not get out of the market. The limited hairs on the Tokugawa family's bald head were almost torn away by him.

Everyone knows that in Japan, when Japan has reached a very serious period, Tokugawa Iemitsu is not a fool, otherwise he would not have handed over the Tokugawa Iemitsu to him. At this time, another far-reaching impact on Japan happened, leaving Tokugawa Iemitsu without the energy to care about the affairs of Satsuma Country.

This happened on the Shimahara Peninsula in Hibishimahara, which was originally led by the foreign-style Matsukura clan. At that time, the governor of the Matsukura clan was Matsukura Katsuko. He was a cruel and ruthless and greedy guy. In the autumn of this year, a great famine broke out in the Shimahara Peninsula and the Amako Islands in the south of Hibishimahara, but the Matsukura Katsuko still collected annual tributes according to the old rules and brutally executed several farmers who could not pay annual tributes.

The peasants lived on the verge of death, and the Catholic faith that had been silent for a long time rose again. More and more people believed in religion secretly to escape the cruel reality. This matter was discovered by Matsukura Katsuya, and a great purge was carried out in the jurisdiction, arrested many believers and asked them to hold a "painting" ceremony. The so-called "painting" refers to throwing wooden signs engraved with the crucifix on the ground, allowing those who suspected of being believers to step on the ground with their feet and willing to obey their destiny, or even if they were believers, they would repent, otherwise they would be sentenced to stolen. This method was not created by Matsukura Katsuya, but was a boring trick created and promoted everywhere by the shogunate.

The double sharp blades of class oppression and religious persecution were added to the people of Shimahara. They had no way out and were forced to take risks. One month after the September 18th Incident, Shimahara Mamura revolted, killing the Matsukura clan's agent Euemon, and breaking through the arsenal of the vassal state, surrounding the Matsukura clan's main castle, Shimahara Castle.

On October 27, an uprising broke out in the Amankara Islands, echoing the Shimahara Uprising north and south. The Amankara Islands are the enclave of the Okubo clan of the genealogy of Kazutsu, the Kazutsu family. Miyake Shigeri, the acting official of the Kazutsu family, led his troops to suppress the riot, but was defeated by the uprising on November 14, with his body and head differently. The Amankara Uprising then surrounded Tomooka Castle.

When the news came to Edo, General Tokugawa Iemitsu was very annoyed and immediately sent his important minister, Hiromasa Onakura to Kyushu, and joined the nearby princes to fight. Shimahara, Amahara's uprising was reported and combined into one, retreated to the abandoned Hara Castle and defended the city. Before the outbreak of the "Shimahara, Amahara Rebellion", the land castle was abandoned and the basic earth-building wooden wall had not been flattened, which gave the rebel army a perfect base.

Interestingly, the leader of the rebel army was a 16-year-old boy, commonly known as Shiro Shiro Toshita. It is said that this handsome boy was sent by God to save Japanese Catholic believers living in dire straits. He has great supernatural powers. All believers respect him as a "heavenly man" and "angel". Everything is only followed by Shiro Shiro Shiro's horse.

Amakusa Shiro, his original name Miao should be Yida, and he was the son of Yoshinoki Yoshinoki, the retainer of Yoshinoki, the retainer of Yoshinoki. His real name was Yida Toshinoki, and his father Yoshinoki was the retainer of Yoshinoki. Later, Shisaki was adopted by Amakusa Shibuwei and changed his name to Amakusa Shibushi. Amakusa was very smart since he was a child, known as a child prodigy, and had a handsome appearance. Amakusa once said to Amakusa: "The master is noble and should have mastered the world, but unfortunately he was born in the Tokugawa era and it was difficult to achieve great things."

After the war between Seihara, Governor Konishi was beheaded, his territory was changed, and his retainers scattered into ronin. It is said that Shiro Shiro had lived in Nagasaki Port since he was a child, and he believed in Catholicism devoutly, and learned Western medicine from the Dutch living in Japan. The so-called supernatural powers, able to live dead people, flesh and bones, probably not completely groundless.

Let’s talk about Hiromasaki Ichikura coming to Shimahara Castle, gathering the surrounding princes including Matsukura Katsuya, Katsushima Katsushima, Arima Feng family and other surrounding princes, gathering their troops and launching a fierce attack on Harahara Castle. At first, Shiromasaki did not take the uprising seriously, thinking that those farmers who were in chaos had no boxing or bravery and did not know how to fight at all. How could they be opponents of the shogunate army? However, they failed to succeed in two consecutive general attacks, and instead suffered heavy losses. Shiromasaki couldn’t help but sweat and realized that there must be people in the Harahara Castle who were well-versed in military tactics.

The Kitakyushu area is the central area for the spread of Catholicism. In the late Warring States period, a large number of civilians and even samurai converted to Catholicism. These people were forced to lurk after the "Great Martyrdom" and took advantage of the uproar. Therefore, not only tens of thousands of farmers defending the Hara Castle, but also many Catholic ronin - Shiro Shiruo was the leader of these ronin.

However, before and after, the two countries and Satsuma were closely linked. A large-scale uprising and war broke out, and even if there were troops in the shogunate, they would not care about him. At this time, his territory also showed unstable phenomena. The situation took a sharp turn, forcing Satsuma Shimazu to bow to the Ming Dynasty and start peaceful negotiations!

Peace talks were even more painful for Satsuma Shimazu. Every time a deal was reached, Satsuma's own losses were a little more serious, just like looking at cutting flesh from his body, and clearly saw the sharp knife falling down and lifting it. The knife was bleeding, and it reached the flesh inch.

After more than two months of negotiations, the Ming Dynasty and Satsumashimazu finally reached a final peace agreement, and the Japanese shogunate agreed to be signed, known in history as the "Treaty of Kagoshima".

The Kagoshima Treaty includes the following contents:

The Ming Dynasty immediately stopped all military operations against Satsuma Shimazu; Satsuma Shimazu publicly clarified the fact that Ryukyu belonged to the Ming Dynasty, and the Japanese shogunate recognized the Ming Dynasty as its culprit. However, this Japanese shogunate did not recognize it at first, but later in order to obtain the Ming Dynasty's military assistance to resolve the Shimahara and Amakusa Rebellion in China, a secret agreement was reached and it was not disclosed to the public.

The Satsuma tribe of Japan ceded the Tugala Islands and all affiliated islands to the Ming Dynasty. These islands will belong to the Ryukyu provinces in the future, and the Ming Dynasty will send troops to garrison them.

The Satsuma family compensated the Ming Dynasty for military expenditure of 2 million taels of silver; the Satsuma family also had to make corresponding compensation for the losses of merchant ships and the casualties of crew members, and solemnly apologized to the Ming Dynasty.

The Satsuma tribe opened Kagoshima County and Kawanet was a commercial port. At the same time, the Japanese shogunate also agreed to open several ports in the central and southern part of Kyushu Island such as Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Hinanam, Miyazaki and other Kyushu Islands as commercial ports, and established concessions in Kagoshima. The Ming Dynasty will be responsible for the legislation, administration and security in the concession area, and the people of the concession enjoy diplomatic immunity.

The Ming merchants were allowed to set up consular officials and factories at Japanese trading ports and import various machines, and also enjoy low taxes and the most-favored-nation treatment of each other;

Japan shall not arrest personnel who serve the Ming army;

Japanese residents in the Tugala Islands who sell their industries and move out of boundaries within two years and fail to move out of boundaries will be considered as citizens of the Ming Dynasty.

Within two months after the ratification of the treaty, the two countries sent personnel to Kagoshima to go through the handover procedures.
