566. The Newsboy and the Knight

As Mordred walked on the streets of Wharton, he felt like an enemy general patrolling the occupied lands of a defeated country, and in the near future, this place would become his territory.

After he finds the elf and cuts off its head, George will probably welcome himself for helping him solve a big problem, and then welcome himself to the throne.

Of course, he could object, but that wouldn't be a good idea.

"Gentlemen, would you like a newspaper? We have exclusive news about the selection ceremony."

Mordred turned his head, and the person calling was a newsboy, about sixteen years old. He wore a gray felt beret diagonally, revealing short brown hair, a simple and neat gray shirt, and a simple smile on his face.

Mordred lowered his head and looked at the boy curiously:

"You said you had exclusive news? You didn't lie to me."

The boy showed a flinching expression, but he quickly adjusted himself and said cheerfully:

"Sir, we did get the one-shot news, but we can't guarantee its authenticity, but if you really have thoughts on this matter, you must buy a newspaper.

"Otherwise, sir, think about it. Others know our information, but you don't. If it is true, wouldn't you suffer a big loss?"

Mordred nodded thoughtfully and tossed two coins:

"You're right, give me one."

The traitorous knight took the newspaper handed over by the boy, stood in front of the newsboy and started reading.

"... George's conspiracy... is completely false... King Arthur is just a fictional character... a method of concentrating power in the House... the death of Senator Sendero..."

He put down the newspaper in his hand and said to the newsboy:

"They are basically all false. Although some of the inferences seem to be reasonable, they are just inferences from the results. There is only one reason why the king's position is vacant, and that is that no one is worthy of it."

The newsboy didn't believe Mordred's words at all:

"This is just your speculation. If you can speculate, I can, but no one knows what the real answer is."

Mordred showed a curious smile:

"Do you have an opinion too?"

The young man nodded:

"Okay, but this is just what I thought of when I was bored, maybe..."

Mordred urged:

"Say it quickly."

Seemingly irritated by Mordred's attitude, the newsboy stretched out his hand:

"But this is also exclusive information. You have to pay first, the same price as the newspaper."

Mordred said nothing and just threw the coin.

The boy showed a happy smile, and then lowered his voice mysteriously:

"I think there must be a conspiracy here, but unlike those in the newspaper, George has a prominent status and holds military power. If it is really to select a new king, is it really necessary?

"Who is more suitable for this position than him? Or how could he and other MPs want to give up their power and find themselves a king?

"Unless the benefits to him outweigh the harm, or there will be no new king at all."

Mordred was a little surprised that this young boy could think of the doubts. Although it was not difficult to think of, the other person was just a newsboy.

The boy saw Mordred's expression and puffed out his chest:

"As long as you read more newspapers and think about the relationship between what happened in the past and what is happening now, you can slowly understand the so-called politics."

Mordred smiled.

Although his words were a bit too arrogant, they did have some truth to them. Mordred knew that even if he defeated the other contestants, they would not let him become the king.

But he doesn't need anyone's permission.

George gave him a reason, and that was enough.

The boy continued:

"And I think this is probably a trap to lure out some guy who covets the throne, or in other words, they have really found a suitable successor or puppet and want to use this opportunity to push him to the forefront."

Thinking that this was the limit of this newsboy, Mordred knew very well, so he asked:

"Do you want to join the game?"

The boy's expression is very serious:

"I have already participated. Although I have not achieved anything yet, I will definitely seize this opportunity. Sir, it seems that you are also very concerned about this matter. We will be competitors in the future."

Mordred said calmly:

"Then I have to get rid of you before you pose a threat."

The boy seemed to be frightened and was stunned for a while:

"I actually have no intention of competing for the throne. I just want to take this opportunity to make a fortune. You don't have to treat me as a competitor."

Mordred smiled:

"Don't you want to be king?"

The boy shrugged:

"I'm not that whimsical."

The knight looked down at the newsboy:

"Can I ask you a few questions?"

The newsboy nodded:

"You paid for two newspapers, so ask."

Mordred's first question was:

"What do you think of King Arthur?"

The newsboy said:

"I have never met him, so my answer is I don't know. I can't judge a person who even lived in the same era as me."

Mordred nodded. His second question was originally about how Mordred was doing, but he changed his mind:

"Do you want to be king?"

The newsboy looked up at the knight, revealing blue irises:

"To answer it seriously, I don't really think so, because the king has all kinds of troubles, has to pay a lot, and has to think about the people in the country. It must be very tiring to live like this, but if there is such an opportunity, I will

I won’t hesitate to pounce on you.”

Mordred wondered:

"Why?"

The boy said:

"No matter how many bad things I can imagine about becoming a king, it will be infinitely better than my current life."

Mordred continued to ask:

"The third question, are you willing to compete for the position of king?"

The newsboy asked rhetorically:

"Is there a 10% chance of success? Will I die?"

Mordred smiled and said:

"With my help, it's more than 10%. As for death, the risk exists. It's a matter of choice."

The newsboy nodded vigorously:

"I do."

Mordred smiled happily:

"your name?"

The boy looked into the other person's eyes and said slowly:
