417. Good man

When night falls, all doors and windows are closed tightly.

The Earl of Serens, regardless of whether he was a real earl or just a bandit, he treated Hwendrenger very attentively. He not only invited him to have dinner with him, but also prepared a guest room and a maid.

But Hevin must move on. Even if the hunt is completed this time, if he procrastinates too much, then by the time he finds Vortigern's hiding place, he may have already reached the ground.

Death is an inevitable journey that everyone must go through.

But the original underworld should not be like this.

Niflheim has lost its mistress.

At least no longer sane.

Hevin returned to the town's streets.

No one dared to wander outside, perhaps because they were afraid of the gray fog entering the town and eating them directly on the streets, perhaps out of fear of Sirens' men, or simply lack of reason to leave the house.

The streets should be empty.

Until Hevin came to the body.

A young and beautiful girl was standing firmly in front of the corpse.

She opened her mouth and said:

"Hello."

Hewen said:

"Hello."

The girl raised her head and looked at him with stubborn eyes:

"I heard you wanted to ask for directions?"

Hewen said:

"That's right."

She said:

"My name is Annie, and I might know something. Do you want to hear it?"

Hewen was silent and looked at her eyes that were staring directly at him.

He nodded.

Annie turned around and walked towards a house not far away.

Hevin followed her.

Annie walked to a rusty iron door, pushed it open gently and walked in.

Hewen also walked in.

The inside of the house is not as gloomy as it looks from the outside, but many of the furniture look a bit old, and some places are slightly damaged compared to a normal house.

After all, you can't buy new furniture in the underworld.

Annie turned around and looked at Hevin:

"Sir, you are a knight, I can tell at a glance."

Hevin's current status is indeed that of a part-time knight.

Anne said:

"Uncle Adek's son Marston is also a knight, and we have always lived here."

There are only two people in the house now.

Anne said:

"Uncle Adek is the person who was brutally killed by them just now. He is not from England, but his son Marston is a knight of England, and Uncle Adek said that he used to be from Milton.

A worker, and a member of a workers' union, although I don't quite understand what a workers' union means.

"But I know that Uncle Adek is a good man, and he has always done good things during his lifetime, as has his son, but in order to pay taxes to Earl of Sirens, Marcus disappeared outside.

"Uncle Edek thought Sirens wanted too much, so he forced us to leave the town frequently and collect black mist nearby in order to avoid being driven away.

"Indeed, he wants too much, and many people have disappeared into the town while collecting the black mist, but Sirens doesn't care about this, because new souls will come to the town from time to time.

"And not everyone has to pay taxes. If they are strong men or beautiful enough women, they can surrender to him, and they will not need to go out to collect black mist.

"At least several people disappear every month, sometimes more than a dozen. He dominates this place with violence."

"I know this is not your obligation, I just see that you may be a knight, so I want to ask if you are willing...

"Punishing rape and eradicating evil."

Hewen said:

"Do you know how to protect this place from the gray fog? Do you know how to deal with the dangers in the dark? Do you know how to keep this town running?"

The hope in the girl's eyes gradually dimmed:

"Don't you think he is not guilty? Shouldn't such a tyrant die?"

Hewen shook his head:

"I don't know if he deserves to die, but even if he is guilty, I am not a judge. I have also committed acts that are considered barbaric and bloody by ordinary people.

"But I know that I will not stay here to protect you from the invasion of gray mist. What if you kill him and are unable to protect others? Do you want everyone to be buried with you in hatred for your actions?"

The girl said:

"He killed the only two people who cared about me. Do you want me to give up revenge? Do you want me to forget all this?"

Hewen said:

"No, revenge is your legitimate right, but I won't help you do it, because I can't keep Gray Fog away from this place forever, but he can.

"I'm not a messenger of justice, kid. I sometimes do good things and kill some evil people, but I can't eradicate all the evil in front of me, and in the longer term, his behavior may not be called evil.

"This is not the human world, but the underworld. I am just a new guest. Maybe his behavior can save more people, maybe his behavior is hurting other people, but I don't have time to stay and investigate this matter.

Who is right and who is wrong.

"I'm leaving, and I can't help you get revenge, but equally, I won't stop you for him. I just want you to know that if you really want revenge, it will probably lead to other people in the town

Swallowed by gray mist.

"So if you are willing, at least think of a way to pry out how to dispel the gray fog from Sirens' mouths, and then protect them."

The girl said disappointedly:

"I thought you were a knight."

Hewen said:

"Unfortunately, you made a mistake, I am not a knight.

"I know a knight. If she were here, she would not only do what she wants to do now, but she would also judge Sirens for you. But unlike me, she would not lynch Sirens.

She will ensure that Sirens receives the punishment he deserves, and at the same time, she will never let him receive the punishment he does not deserve.

"But I'm in a hurry now, and I can't just listen to your side of the story and kill him. Even if I'm not in a hurry, I may not be involved in this matter."

Anne asked:

"There is nothing more important than upholding justice, more important than the lives of two good people."

Hewen corrected:

"It's not the lives of two good people, but the matter of revenge for two good people."

The girl pointed out the window:

"There is an evil tyrant out there. If you are a good person, stop, put down what you are doing, and go help bring justice to this town."

Hewen shook his head:

"I have said before, I am not a knight, nor a judge, and strictly speaking, I am not a good person either.

"Life is immeasurable, and what I want to do now is related to many such immeasurable lives. Whether they die or live depends on whether I succeed.
