13. Disputes and Abnormalities

At seven o'clock in the evening, looking up from Chenxi Town, you can see the sunset that dyes the sky red and is about to set.

Outside the wall of a house made of white bricks, countless guards came and went. Their patrols merged into the entire town and gathered again here.

A small town guard repays his superiors:

"Sheriff! We found Ogden's body!"

The Sheriff put out the cigarette in his hand and his eyes widened:

"What did you say?"

Although this was bad news, it was better than not knowing anything at all. He was already too exhausted.

The last murder in this peaceful town was seven years ago, and it was an accident. The last time it happened was before he took office.

Finally having specific information, the Sheriff asked:

"What about Mrs. Leicester and her children?"

The guard looked troubled:

"There is no news, and we have sealed off the scene. You need to come and see for yourself."

The guard led the sheriff to a piece of woodland not far from Lester's house. Some traces of dug-out soil could still be seen from the edge.

It should be a common burial. It seemed that the prisoner didn't have much time to deal with the body, but the sheriff felt a little strange about the expressions of the guards around him.

However, when he saw the body, he almost vomited out his dinner.

"How could there be such a perversion!"

Lester's body had begun to decompose, but that was not what disgusted the Sheriff.

Instead, his skull was opened alive, but the brain inside disappeared, and there was not a trace of residual brain matter on the surface of the bones. It seemed that they had all been licked clean by some kind of creature.

The guard on the side said:

"The forensic doctor said that there were signs of gnawing on the head of the corpse. This is not the crime scene. The most important thing is that the time of his death should be far longer than the time of his disappearance."

The Sheriff focused on the first half of the sentence and asked with a white face:

"Just like the black bear carcass?"

"Yes."

The Sheriff came back to his senses, looked at the subordinate next to him and asked:

"Where's the mayor? Get the mayor quickly. We need to notify the police station in the city immediately."

"We don't know..."

The Sheriff shouted a little uncontrollably

"Then let me look for it! Until you find it."

His excitement was not due to the fright he received, but because he realized a terrible fact.

A monster that can easily kill a black bear is wandering near the town, and sees humans as prey.

So who will die next? How many people will die before this disaster ends?

This is Dawn Town's nightmare.

And at Hevin's Cottage.

Rebecca sat on the wicker chair, staring blankly at the empty wooden wall.

Jimmy squatted on the ground with his hands and knees, saying nothing and not knowing what he was thinking.

Nelly rummaged through the kitchen, trying to find some food.

"Holla, where do you usually put your food?"

Hala replied calmly:

"Sister Nelly, are you hungry? But it's not time to eat yet?"

Nelly stopped what she was doing, looked at Ha La and said:

"It's kind of, no, I'm not hungry, I don't know, I just feel like I have to do something, and other than that I don't really know how to stay calm and what else would I do if I broke down too."

Ha La stretched out her little hand and held Nelly's slender fingers:

"It's okay, there's Hewen as well."

Nelly couldn't help it anymore and asked with a little cry:

"What if Ogden is already dead? What can we do no matter how powerful Hevin is? And why do you seem not to be afraid at all? Have you always known Hevin's secret?"

Ha La and Nelly looked at each other and said:

"I don't know, but I believe Hevin will protect us."

"Why can you trust him so much? I mean, although he is indeed very powerful and a good person, if you don't understand him at all, how can you be sure that Hevin can solve all problems."

Ha La tilted her head and looked at Nelly doubtfully:

"I'm not sure, but I believe Hevin?"

Nelly felt a little uncomfortable being looked at by Ha La. This little girl had a unique way of thinking that she couldn't understand.

"What if Heven fails?"

Ha La's tone was firm:

"He will not fail."

"He is not a god. How can there be a person who will never fail?"

"I know, I won't let..." Ha La paused, her tone already a little unhappy, "He won't fail."

Nelly didn't know what this girl was, but she was definitely not Hevin's distant niece, and she was definitely not a sane human being.

Thinking about it carefully, for some reason, Nelly fell in love with Holla unexpectedly when she first saw her. It was not because of her appearance, but because of her expression, her posture, and her many inadvertent little actions.

Not just her, it seemed that everyone who saw her would feel love and pity for her, including her mother and Jimmy. Based on Nellie's understanding of her brother, the immature child would have probably taken out his grievances on Hall.

But this idea never seemed to appear in the adolescent boy's mind, as if such a thing was impossible and should not happen.

Even when talking to her now, Ha La still made her feel a sense of identity and security. Even at this moment, she could not express even a trace of disgust or fear.

'Maybe Hevin gave her some magical props.' Nelly comforted herself in this way, and soon this idea turned into an unshakable fact and took root in her mind.

Jimmy stood up and walked to Nellie, his head lowered and his face gloomy.

Nelly asked preemptively:

"What's wrong?"

Jimmy raised his head and said with a sneer:

"I understand. Do you like him, Hevin?"

Nelly blushed angrily and yelled angrily:

"Jimmy, what do you mean?",

Jimmy took a deep breath, as if to dispel the fear deep in his heart:

"If you don't like him? Why do you want to speak for him and put your boyfriend before your father? Your father is dead, and you still have the heart to fall in love?"

Nelly clenched her fists, shook her teeth and said:

"You should take a good look at yourself. You are like a mad dog now. If you were not my brother, I would have punched you down long ago."

Jimmy looked at Nellie with penetrating eyes.

Nelly glanced in the direction of her mother. She didn't seem to notice the children's quarrel at all and was still looking straight at the wall.

"Nelly doesn't like Hevin." Ha La said at the side.

"What?" Jimmy wanted to stare at Ha La with fierce eyes, but the moment he saw her, the boy's heart softened and the resentment in his eyes disappeared.

Ha La explained softly:

"Hevin said that Nelly doesn't like Hevin, so it's impossible for Nelly to like Hevin."

Jimmy fell silent when he heard this, but Nellie could see that Jimmy, who had not been able to vent his interrupted anger, would find a new target for this anger.

Nelly knew she was the target.

Boom, boom.

Someone knocked on the door.
