33, the snow is ruthless

Heavy snow has blocked the mountains and the roads are rugged and difficult to walk.

Kou Jing took her brothers and walked with other teams. Occasionally, there were one or two houses built on the roadside. When she opened the door and looked, the people inside were lifeless.

Everyone became more silent as they walked, and they scattered all the way. The further back they walked, the fewer people there were. Gradually, Kou Jing's group was the only one left.

Hulu Village is about seventy or eighty miles away from the county seat. According to the usual marching speed, they should have covered more than half of it in one and a half hours. But now they have only walked more than twenty miles.

The heavy snow was up to my knees, and I had to lift my legs very high with every step. Even though the boots issued by the military camp were more durable than cloth shoes, they were almost soaked at the moment.

There is still light snow falling in the sky, and it looks very beautiful. But in the eyes of everyone, it is no different from the devil.

Life in the army is not easy. They train in the winter and in the summer. Here are all men who can endure hardships and stand hard work. So, even if the situation is so bad, no one complains.

The snow was falling heavier and heavier, and the visibility on the road was somewhat unclear. Kou Jing issued an order for everyone to take shelter for the time being.

Just in time, a tall snowdrift appeared at the corner ahead. It turned out to be a pavilion for passers-by to rest and shelter from the rain. I saw several such pavilions along the way. They were all pledged by wealthy households in the county to build the pavilions.

It is very big and has been repaired every year. It uses good wood, so it has not been crushed by heavy snow.

A group of people walked in, and it was packed. I don't know if it was comfort in their hearts or something else, but everyone felt that there was a tile above their heads, and their bodies seemed to be warmer.

Taking this opportunity, everyone took out the dry food from their bodies and started eating slowly, as they might not have time to eat later.

A soldier looked around while eating. When he saw something, he suddenly screamed loudly, with a look of panic on his face.

"Why are you howling? I'm so scared that I'm going to drop my cake!" The veteran next to him patted his head.

"Feet! Feet! There are feet!" He yelled several times in succession, causing everyone to look at him.

Following the soldier's line of sight, everyone saw a pair of feet, twisted and curled up under the bench of the pavilion.

"Pull him out!" Kou Jing said.

Two soldiers stepped forward and dragged the man out from under the bench. They found that the man's body was stiff and his face was pale. He must have been dead for a long time.

He folded his arms around his chest and buried his head as low as possible. His back was bent into an arch, his feet were curled inward, and his knees and chest were connected together, making it impossible for him to straighten himself.

How cold does a grown man have to be to be able to crawl into that small place and curl up as small as a child?

"Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"

"Why are you crying! If you have time to cry, why not come over and lend a hand, dig a hole, and bury him..."

A group of people moved their hands silently, digging through the thick snow to reveal the black soil underneath. When they dug out the soil and were about to put people in, Kou Jing suddenly said: "Wait a minute."

Everyone didn't know what he wanted to do, but their hands stopped. Kou Jing went up to the man and groped around for a while, and found a package of things in his arms. When he opened it, he saw a box inside, and there was a silver in the box.

The bracelet has two small bells hanging on it. There are six words engraved in the box, which read: Give to my beloved daughter Yunying.

Everyone was silent. The veteran who just scolded the soldier also wiped his eyes and looked away unnaturally.

“After the disaster, my family found it and used it as a token.”

They put people in and filled a shovelful of soil each. The heavy snow quickly covered the small bag of soil, like a thick quilt, which looked particularly dazzling.

"Set off!"

Kou Jing gave an order and everyone stopped lingering and continued on their way.

They walked very fast, and walked for about two hours before they arrived at the foot of the mountain where Hulucun Village is located. It was about a quarter of an hour away from Hulucun Village. But the vast expanse of white in front of them made it difficult to tell the difference.

Where is the road, where is the valley. Fortunately, the heavy snow seems to have stopped.

Hu Jun came out and said to everyone: "Let's go up the mountain through this road first, and then we can find the trail I mentioned in the time it takes a stick of incense. I walked this road from childhood to adulthood, not to mention it was covered with snow.

I can walk even with my eyes closed. Brothers, follow my footsteps and be careful not to go wrong."

With that said, Hu Jun took the lead and walked up. With every step he took, he would firmly push the snow in that place so that the people behind him could follow easily.

The journey was uneventful and we soon reached the path Hu Jun mentioned.

"Everyone should be more careful now. Only hunters come and go here usually. I'm afraid there will be traps on the road that won't be cleared in time. Please don't step in and follow my footsteps."

Everyone nodded and followed Hu Jun's footsteps again.

After walking for a while, another muffled groan suddenly came from behind everyone. When they turned around, no one seemed strange, so everyone continued walking forward.

Kou Jing sensed something unusual, so he deliberately slowed down his pace and gradually fell behind the team, observing everyone who passed by him.

Someone in the crowd caught his attention, the soldier named Chang Hu from before. In such a cold weather, he was covered in sweat while walking, and his face wrinkled from time to time, as if he was enduring something.

"...Hold on." Kou Jing looked at him for a while and noticed the red blood on his feet. He didn't say anything, just walked to him silently, and then stretched out the spear in his hand towards him.

Chang Hu lowered his head and burst into tears. He was so stupid. He was still in a daze after the commander-in-chief had been talking for so long. He stepped on the condom and was pinched by the pliers. Although his foot got free in time, it was already pinched.

.

He joined the army because his family was too poor. Because he was young, everyone took good care of him. But he had caused trouble several times along the way, and now he had to delay everyone again. He was really embarrassed, so he thought

Suppress it quietly and wait until the time comes.

Unexpectedly, Kou Baihu discovered it, and even defended the little thought he wanted to hide. Chang Hu put his hand on the spear, and his feet instantly relaxed.

Kou Jing carried half her weight forward and followed the team all the way up. After rounding several big bends, Hu Jun shouted: "We're here!"

There were a few thatched houses scattered in front of me, all covered with heavy snow. Two of them seemed to have been crushed, with their roofs collapsing on the earthen walls.

Everyone looked at Hu Jun in unison, and felt very unbearable when they saw his desolate eyes.

Hu Jun walked towards the deserted house, used the scabbard in his hand to pull away the snow piled at the door, and then pushed open the door with trembling hands.

The moment he saw it inside, he suddenly felt relieved: "No one is there!"

Others also went to other houses to search, but there was no one inside. Those who were careful discovered that the food inside had also been taken away.

"I'm afraid they are hiding in one place. Is there a large place in your village that can accommodate many people?" Kou Jing asked.

Hu Jun thought for a moment, then shook his head. Their village had always been very poor, and there were very few people with yards, let alone a large ancestral hall.

"That's right!" Hu Jun's eyes lit up, "There is a mountain not far behind our village. We visited it when we were children. There is a large cave there that should be able to accommodate hundreds of people."

Hulu Village and Modou Village are adjacent to each other. The two villages together only have a population of one hundred, fifty or sixty, so they should be able to live there!

After listening to Hu Jun's words, everyone opened several doors and found that there was still no one, so they walked towards the cave.

After walking for a while, there was a faint sound of voices coming from the front, like two women arguing about something.

Ever since we entered Mobei, we had never heard such a loud sound of fireworks. Everyone was in high spirits and walked forward faster.

"...These are obviously eggs laid by my chickens. Your old hen has stopped laying eggs a long time ago."

"Who said that, she gave birth yesterday!"

"Okay, I said I didn't pick up the eggs yesterday, but it turns out you came to pick them up yesterday! You have to return the eggs to me!"

"Mom! Aunt Chunhua!" Hu Jun's eyes burned and he ran forward. The person in front of him with a rosy face and a loud voice was his mother.

"Goudan, didn't you go to the army? Why did you come back today? Did you commit something?" Hu Junniang was very worried and had no intention of quarreling.

"Mom, no..." After Hu Jun explained to his mother that he was here to provide disaster relief, Hu Junniang smiled.

"I just said that my son is a great person, but our two villages are pretty good. This is all thanks to the old man. If he hadn't asked us to move in together, I'm afraid we would all have died of cold at home." They said.

I complained at first, but then I started to feel scared when I saw it kept snowing.

In the cave, the old people chatted together around the fire, and a few children lay on their laps and listened carefully. The men were chopping firewood, repairing farm tools, and occasionally cracking jokes, and they were having fun. The women's side was lively.

Now, the noise is endless, mostly because of trivial things, but if you don’t take it seriously, it will get better soon.

This scene made everyone feel warm in their hearts. There were some tragic scenes along the way. Seeing these now, it was like returning to the world from hell...

On the sixth day of December, the heavy snow finally stopped completely, and the sky that had been gloomy since mid-November finally let out a few rays of golden light.

On the tenth day of December, the imperial disaster relief team finally arrived. The rescue work of Ancheng defenders was also completed, and the existing population was placed in Mobei County for centralized management.

In addition to disaster relief food, the imperial court also provided pensions. For those who died over seven years old, their families could receive a funeral allowance of 600 yuan per person. In addition, the imperial court also exempted Mobei from taxes for two years, allowing them to

Recuperate and recuperate.

After that, the Minister of Disaster Relief, Gu Yuan, started the reconstruction work according to the disaster relief policy, and everything was developing in the right direction.

However, except for Hulu Village and Modou Village, which had many people, the other villages suffered heavy casualties, almost fulfilling Chu Ci's words.

Where there used to be 20,000 to 30,000 people, now only about 5,000 to 6,000 are still alive. The worst thing is a family in Xiayuan Village. More than a dozen people starved to death at home, and there were bite marks on every utensil around them.

I think I'm very hungry.

After Kou Jing returned to the military camp, she accidentally saw a family on the pension list. It read: All six of the Yun family died. The following list is attached... Yun Ying, one year old... In addition, the eldest son Yun Dalang is unknown.

trace.

Kou Jing took the bracelet out of his arms and handed it to the soldier who was providing relief. He said, "Yun Dalang died in the road. If there are any relatives in his family who come to look for him, please give this to them."

I hope they go down there and the family can be reunited.

The author has something to say: Because Kou Jingjing said that he might be the most transparent attacker in Jinjiang, he was dragged out in these two chapters. The next chapter returns to Chu Xiaoci's perspective, and the timeline will be slightly faster after that.
