Chapter 204: Horse Racing·Gear of Morning Light III(3/4)

President Selina Lockhart sat in her office, the thick top-secret document in front of her like a cold stone, pressing on her heart.

Her fingers gently slid across the document cover, and an extremely cold feeling spread throughout her body along her fingertips, making her shiver.

These files contained countless horrific truths - the ravages of the Rangers, the disappearances in the community, the plundering of the infected's property, all of which were like sharp knives piercing her heart.

But even so, Selena once again made the familiar but painful decision-she must hide these secrets and deal with these problems before they explode.

【Stability must be greater than anything else!】

She clutched the document tightly and felt her heart aching.

Whenever she made such a timid decision, the stinging feeling was like a cry from the depths of her conscience, reminding her that she was betraying something important.

However, there is no turning back from this road.

As the president of the Neutral Federation, her responsibility is not only to lead, but also to protect those infected groups who no longer have the power to protect themselves.

And she believes that only through stability and compromise can infected people gradually integrate into this cruel society.

She reminded herself repeatedly in her mind: stability is more important than anything else.

This is her philosophy, and it is the belief that has supported her to this day.

She always told herself that the turning point between infected people and human society was close at hand.

And the key to all this has appeared - the fourth sword holder in the Kingdom of Heaven, the Lord of Hell's Kitchen.

She firmly believes that it is the great man who founded the Authority who can truly break this dilemma and bring a new dawn.

The management authority established by Angel has long been the key to solving the problem in her heart.

It is not just a huge government agency, but a symbol, a link that allows infected people to re-establish relationships with normal humans.

Selena believes that all her efforts, all her compromises and forbearance are for the arrival of this moment.

The cause she has done for the infected community, the uneasy conscience she carries, and even the suffocating choices she makes are all in anticipation of an opportunity to intervene like the Fourth Sword Bearer in Heaven.

She has found a way for infected people to survive and be accepted in this hostile society.

And she believes that the Authority is that path.

Not only that, racecourse competition is also a breakthrough for her belief.

She has always believed that horse racing is more than just a competition, it represents communication and understanding between infected people and human society.

She watched the infected players fighting hard on the track, gradually eliminating the barriers with humans, and society's perception of them was also undergoing subtle changes.

This is the result of Selina's long-term policy promotion (at least she really thinks so), and it is also her unremitting belief that infected people do not need to fight for their rights through violence, but by showing their strength, perseverance and courage.

Win the respect of society.

She was convinced that all this was the result of her hard work.

Through competitions, infected people make humans realize that they are not just "alien", but also a part of society that cannot be ignored.

Every competition held is proof that she has endured humiliation for many years. The torture of conscience that kept her awake at night now seems to be for this moment of victory.

"Everything I did was right."

Selina murmured softly, holding the thick document tightly in her hand, as if it was the only force that supported her to this day.

Then, her eyes involuntarily turned to the screen on the wall, where a horse racing competition was being broadcast - [Silver Moon Hoof Alicia].

That has always been her "pride".

Alicia, the name that once made her feel a mixture of joy and pain deep in her heart.

Outsiders don't know that Selena's life is not the "success and tenacity" it seems on the surface.

She had a brief marriage to a normal human being.

There is not much emotion in this marriage, and it is more based on political and interest considerations. The two have a tacit understanding of each other and each gets what they need.

The marriage ended quickly, leaving almost no traces worth remembering.

However, this marriage brought her a complicated "gift" - her daughter, Alicia.

A child born with a congenital infection called peristomia.

She once felt pain, fear, and even hatred for Alicia because she knew the world's attitude towards children like Alicia.

She was afraid that the child would become a huge obstacle to her career and life.

But as time went by, Alicia's existence became her biggest driving force.

So, she found another reason for her cowardice: she wanted to use all her efforts to change this society, to strive for a world where Alicia and all infected people could live more uprightly.

Selena's eyes gradually became dull. She was immersed in the game on the screen, and the sound of Silver Moon's hooves echoed throughout the office.

Alicia on the screen is like a silver lightning, running hard on the track, showing her dazzling talent and will.

Selena looked at this scene, with an unspeakable complex emotion surging in her heart - it was her mother's pride, and it was also the pain caused by a secret that had never been made public.

"Didi didi~~~"

"Didi didi~~~"

"Didi didi~~~"

Just as she was immersed in this emotion, suddenly, there was a rapid beeping sound in the office.

Selina was startled slightly, her eyes slowly moved away from the screen, turned to the source of the sound, and her pupils shrank slightly.

Before she could react, a huge explosion suddenly tore apart the tranquility.

"boom------!"

The shock wave of the explosion instantly swallowed up the office she was in. The windows and walls were shattered by the violent air waves, and the entire room was plunged into flames and black smoke.

Documents, tables and chairs were scattered everywhere, and the air was filled with thick smoke and the hot smell of fire.

When the staff outside finally rushed into the office that was engulfed in flames, what they saw was a horrifying sight:

The desk had turned into a pile of burning ruins, and the whole room was filled with the smell of burning and broken debris. And among the debris, lay a body that had been blown to pieces.

Selina Lockhart, the president of the Infected Neutral Federation who once insisted on "stability above all else".

Half of her body was blown to pieces, and the remaining limbs were scattered in the burning flames.

The screen in the office is still on, but the competition on the track has nothing to do with this hellish scene.

04:40 PWeather/Heavy rain.

Away from the chaos after the explosion of the Neutrality Federation, a black Maybach drove quietly over the viaduct, the rain splashed by the wheels causing ripples around the car.

The Maybach decelerated quickly and slid into a hidden parking space. There were still water droplets on the car body from the high-speed driving, and it looked cold and solemn in the rain.

In the car, there was a middle-aged man sitting in the driver's seat. His black hair was of medium length and tied casually behind his head. It was a bit rough. There was a tired but determined look on his face.

His eyes were cold and sharp, with a hint of imperceptible sharpness.

He answered the phone, and after a few seconds of silence, he responded in a low voice:

"I see, you did a good job."

There was a hint of fatigue in his words, but also an anger that could not be concealed.

He hung up the phone quickly, as if one more word would make him completely lose control.

Sitting in the passenger seat was a green-haired girl, scantily clad, with shiny nose studs and earrings, full of rebellious and unruly vibes.

She asked with a slightly teasing tone:

"It seems Selena is dead, what happens next? What do you plan to do next?"

The man did not turn to look at her, his eyes were still staring ahead.

The raindrops outside the car window hit the glass like bullets, and everything outside seemed to be isolated from the tense atmosphere inside the car.

The green-haired girl couldn't help but smile and continued to test: "Stop pretending, you know we can't stop. However, the adult in Hell's Kitchen has decided to-"

Before he finished speaking, Mikhail Garcia turned back sharply, his eyes showing almost uncontrollable anger and hatred, like a beast forced into a desperate situation.

"Do you know how Assis died?" His voice was low, but every word was as sharp as a blade, piercing people's hearts.

The green-haired girl was stunned for a moment and frowned slightly.

Assis, who is it?

She seemed unfamiliar with the name, but she felt the strong emotion in his words.

Mikhail did not stop and continued to speak, with anger and pain that could not be concealed in his tone.

"Assis, he has everything - he is talented, has outstanding abilities, and has even passed the qualifications as a lawyer in human society. He just wants to use his abilities to prove that he is no different from the so-called 'normal' people."

"But those damn bastards don't think so."

His voice gradually became deeper, filled with suppressed anger and pain.

"They caught him and tortured him, not even for revenge, not for so-called justice - just to satisfy their morbid curiosity. Do you know what questions they asked?"
