Chapter 27: Clearwater Pond Fish

Two strong boys and a wild boar that was tragically hung on the plow, stayed busy around the old house until the moon was in the middle of the sky.

After eating two trays of meat buns specially sent by Aunt Liu Shu, they fell asleep exhausted.

Liu Shu ate only three of the twenty meat buns, and the rest were contracted by Dahan and the tired pig's ears.

It has to be said that being strong is not a good person, so he will take on most of the important tasks of digging the earth alone; and professionals need professional talents to do it. Not only does it have a set of "pork belly" but it will not only take a plough and follow the map planned by Liu Shu, but it will not be any deviation.

Of course, plowing the land is not for farming. The old man’s old house is built against the mountains and is surrounded by woodland. It is not suitable for planting crops except for trees.

On the way back, Liu Shu was inspired by the villagers' houses in front of and behind.

The reason why Jiuxi Village is named is not that there are really nine streams. The most important stream passing through the village is winding and twisting, and it turns back from left to right again nine times in the village.

The villagers of Jiuxi Village live by the water. The entire village actually unfolds according to the direction of the stream. From the top of Huaguo Mountain, the white walls and black tiles are surrounded by green plants, and a clear jade belt winds among them, like a landscape painting.

If the sun sets, smoke will curl up every household and mist will arise in the mountains, it will be like a fairyland on earth.

The stream that provides water for Jiuxi Village for generations has made great contributions.

Of course, for life, the beauty created by a mountain stream is second, and water is the most important thing.

It is very convenient for every household to wash vegetables and eat water. It is directly led to a canal from the mountain stream to the doorsteps of each house, and then flows into the public canals in the village to serve as irrigation water or flows back to the mountain stream and pours into the lake.

Laundry and toilets are basically downstream of another mountain stream with a more abundant water volume outside the village. This is almost the consensus among the villagers of Jiuxi Village for hundreds of years. There is basically no one who violates it, and naturally some sanitary diseases have been avoided.

It is both convenient, beautiful and hygienic, and this is also the crystallization of the wisdom of the predecessors of Jiuxi Village.

However, Liu Shu did not want to introduce stream water to the old house. Originally, the mountain stream flowed through dozens of meters in front of the old house, and it would be impossible to walk over.

Liu Shu fell in love with another idea of the ancestors of Jiuxi Village.

Although Jiuxi Village has a lot of water, especially after a new lake is built next to it, there is no shortage of aquatic resources, but every household in Jiuxi Village has a tradition of raising fish.

It is said that as early as the early Ming Dynasty, the ancestors of Jiuxi Village used the natural ecological environment to build houses along the stream, and then built square ponds with stones around the house, and introduced streams and mountain springs into the pond, and then put grass carp, green fish, etc. into the pond for breeding.

Just like pigs, cattle, sheep and other domestic animals, fish have become an extremely alternative domestic animal in Jiuxi Village compared to other villages.

During the holidays, when distinguished guests come, villagers will catch big fish in front of their doors and even in the pond in their yards to entertain guests.

This kind of ancient fish farming is not something that can be achieved with water, but has strict standards.

First, when choosing a fish pond, you must be close to the stream passing through the village, and the bottom of the pond must be connected to the stream; secondly, the area of the fish pond should not be too large, the small one is five or six square meters, the large one is at most thirty square meters, and the pond water depth is only one meter. It is best to have small stones or clear sand at the bottom of the pond, and there should be no silt.

Third, the fish pond must design the water inlet and outlet, so that the pond can keep flowing water continuously all year round, and the water quality is clear and free of impurities.

Maintaining a good water quality and fish living environment is only the foundation. The reason why the fish raised in Jiuxi Village can become the best food for guests is because the feed for feeding fish is not used for food or ordinary green grass. Those who are willing to work hard are the Polygonatum leaves in Qinglongjian Mountain. A little later, you have to use "passing yellow", which is the more common money grass in rural areas.

Although the cost of feeding herbs instead of forage is greatly increased, it can improve the fish's immunity and enhance the disease resistance. Over time, the fish will naturally have certain medicinal properties.

For example, Polygonatum, commonly known as Chicken Head Ginseng, is a precious Chinese medicinal material that replenishes qi and nourishes yin, strengthens the spleen, moistens the lungs, and benefits the kidneys.

To put it bluntly, that thing is good to men.

When men are good, women will naturally be good. People with some common sense in life understand it.

Raising fish like this is naturally like raising babies. No one can eat the pond fish from the villagers of Jiuxi Village.

Although Liu Shu was the hope of the whole village, when he came back, his uncle was very happy, but he didn't see him bringing one of the pond fish at home to eat.

You should know that the old man had a fish king who had been in the fish pond in his yard for more than 30 years. He was more than one meter long and weighed 36 kilograms. Liu Shu had been salivating at the fat fish since childhood and had always wanted to get it to eat.

Whether it is fried fish pieces, made with pickled fish, or pickled fish, the big greenfish is definitely delicious enough.

Liu Qingshan also promised once that as long as Liu Shu passed the exam, he would contribute the green fish that was not that big at that time to treat the whole village to eat.

Unfortunately, Liu Shu, the unlucky guy, got a second-tier exam, and he was beaten to death because he didn't want to increase the burden on his family and refused to repeat the exam. The Fish King survived to this day.

Although the uncle was depressed for several days after Liu Shu's notice came out, according to Liu Shu's uncle, the old man sat by the fish pond at night and drank two glasses happily.

It is certainly sad that my nephew didn’t do well in the exam, but the fish king he raised since he was young has escaped, which is also a thing worthy of gratitude!

However, this is understandable. Not to mention raising a fish, even if a stone is in his pocket for decades, it will be round, right? Moreover, the fish is quite spiritual. As long as the old man stands by the pond, the guy will swim to the shore on his own initiative. Even if the old man strokes his head with his hand, it will not wander. Everyone who sees it is amazed.

It can be regarded as a scenic spot in Jiuxi Village.

Under the baptism of the economic tide, it cannot be said that Jiuxi Village has not done any publicity. This kind of health-preserving clear water fish grown from mountain spring water and herbs is indeed very eye-catching, but it just stops attracting attention.

The reason is very simple. Although the fish is good, the price is too expensive.

A pound of price is as high as 200 yuan. A grass carp or green carp that has been raised for several years can cost seven or eight pounds, but it is only 2,000 yuan.

For ordinary tourists, they cannot taste it. Will you easily place an order just by listening to stories and legends? For the restaurants upstream, the more expensive mandarin fish, sturgeon and croaker are more well-known and the purchase price is cheaper than this. The cost of pond fish in Jiuxi Village is too high to rely on storytelling to make gimmicks.

For villagers, it is naturally even more impossible to reduce the price. Not only does it take to raise a fish, but it is not cheap to go into the mountains to harvest herbs and feed fish. Instead of selling it at a price, it is better to entertain guests.

Besides, Jiuxi Village is rich in resources. Although it is not rich, it is absolutely not poor. The villagers' pursuit of money has not reached the level of hungry desire of people in big cities.

The difficulty in reaching an agreement between supply and demand sides has led to the popularity of the "Health Clean Water Fish" in Jiuxi Village for a while, and now it is still calm. Some of the villagers raise their own fish, and some of them sell them if they don't sell them, and they keep them if they don't.

Perhaps because of Jianghan, who grew up in the province of Thousand Lakes, he had no hobby for raising fish. He wanted to eat fish, so he picked up the net and went to mountain streams or lakes to catch them.

For him, eating fish may not be as fun as fishing.

Naturally, the old house does not have this traditional fish pond in Jiuxi Village.

Liu Shu planned to transform a fish pond similar to this around the old house, but it was slightly different from the traditional ones.

He did not intend to build a traditional square fish pond, but a canal that was only one meter wide, winding around the entire old house.

The water from the mountain stream flows in from the inlet, flows out from the outlet and then flows into the stream. The inlet and outlet are blocked with a net to prevent the fish in the canal from running away.

In other words, the artificial ditches planned by Liu Shu are actually considered tributaries of mountain streams.

Moreover, Liu Shu had already made plans and did not use any cement and blue bricks. Everything was made of natural environment. At most, some river sand and pebbles were placed into the artificial ditches.

In order to imitate the original natural environment of the stream, Liu Shu, based on the terrain around the old house, winded down from high to low, and the water also went shallow and deep as the terrain changed. The water depth was only half a meter in shallow areas, and the deep location might be more than two meters.

Everything is the most natural form and will not affect the inherent habits of fish and shrimps at all.

The planned length of the entire canal is more than 800 meters, and a large part of it winds through the forest based on the terrain. Only a small part is planned by Liu Shu to pass by the side of the old house.
