Chapter Four Hundred and Nine
"What is poverty and what is saint?"
Feng Xue asked, and Elder Jinchi suddenly glared at me, "You monk is unreasonable, I'll say hello to you politely, come up and play with this for me?"
Playing the Jifeng is a traditional game among monks. Although the best one to play is the Central Plains Zen Buddhism, it does not mean that foreign monks don’t understand it. In fact, from the Buddha picking flowers and Kashyapa smiles, this kind of game has become the daily life of monks.
only……
All the ancestors who play the game will let Feng Xue fool him into becoming the emperor, okay?
In short, when Elder Jin Chi heard Feng Xue’s question, he immediately put his hands together: “If you have great merits, you will be a saint, and if you have weaker ones, you will be poor.”
"Yeah?"
"Isn't it..."
"no."
"this……"
Elder Jinchi was speechless, and the monks around him stared at him, not understanding what these two were talking about.
Feng Xue smiled and said:
"Rich means wealth, poverty means poverty, and having money means wealth. As long as you come in a good manner, why should you force yourself to say poverty? Do you think you shouldn't be rich? If you shouldn't, how can you wear gold and silver and be covered with eight treasures?"
When Elder Jinchi heard Feng Xue say this, his face also showed a hint of enlightenment, but he just clasped his hands together and said:
"The disciple has entered the monk, but he can't let go of the gold, silver and wealth, and he has already taken a look..."
"Wealth is the most important thing, but poverty is not?"
Feng Xue's words were like a wake-up call. The wrinkles on Elder Jinchi's face immediately dispersed, and then he folded his hands again, but at this moment, a little bit of solemn appearance was faintly revealed.
The agate jadeite on his body, the cat-eyed tortoiseshell still looked the same, but the nouveau riche's face was gone, but instead it seemed to complement each other. You could even see some Buddha light, and the Buddha nature rose on him.
"The rich monk understands."
"I realized?" Feng Xue smiled, and Elder Jinchi nodded: "I realized."
After saying that, he called the novice monks to make rice and prepare vegetarian dishes, as if the pace was a little lighter.
Ao Li was stunned when he saw it. After a few people retreated, he said blankly:
"Master, what did he realize? He was obviously an ordinary monk, but how could he condense the nature of Buddha in Sacred Buddha in just a few words?"
"He realized it." The monkey said calmly, "Master's words are very meaningful, pointing to the root of Zen."
"Can you say it's simpler?" Ao Li looked at the monkey and looked like I understood it, and always felt that she was being excluded.
"Simply put, it is a matter of mentality. Buddhist practice emphasizes the mind and nature. Although it is a different approach to the Idiot Sword of the Master, it is somewhat similar in essence. It emphasizes a personal enlightenment. Elder Jinchi is rich, likes money, enjoys enjoyment, jewelry, and shows off. But as a monk with some Taoism, he feels that he shouldn't be like this, so he has lived for more than 200 years and cannot take this step."
Feng Xue touched Ao Li's horse's head and explained a few simple sentences, but Ao Li became even more strange:
"Then why did he realize it in just a few more sentences? Did he let go of his attachment to wealth?"
"How is that possible!" The monkey rolled his eyes, "Did you call himself a rich monk without looking at him? The so-called "appearance" in Buddhism does not specifically refer to being addicted to a certain state, but a cognitive "prejudice". The old monk thinks that poor monks should be poor and rich, so they are not good monks. This is called appearance. In fact, whether it is poor or rich, as long as you can view it correctly, you can break the confusion, recognize yourself, and recognize yourself, which is the first step in Buddhist practice."
"Wukong is right." Feng Xue nodded, with a strange expression on her face:
"'Buddha' is actually 'I'. When the Buddha realized the Bodhi of the past, he said that he was 'heaven and earth, only 'I' was the only one who was respected'. I did not refer to the Buddha, but to himself. I recognized himself and understood what you were doing, what you wanted to do, and what you were going to do, then you would be enlightened."
"What about my Buddha's mercy? What about saving all living beings?" Ao Li tilted his head, and the monkey immediately smiled with his stomach in his arms, and Feng Xue also showed a funny look:
"As for preaching, you must make it easier for the people to accept you. Just listen to this. Don't take it seriously. Maybe there is a Buddha who saves sentient beings and is compassionate, but that is his way, not the way of "I". If you force yourself to learn, it is to be attached to appearances. The Buddhist emphasis on seeing through the essence is to see the essence through phenomena. Emptiness is an objective law. The so-called four elements are empty, not nothing, but what you see and hear is the essence, which means that you will not be confused by the prejudices in your heart. Seeing through the world is not to abandon the world, but to understand the essence of the world. Having a Buddha in your heart means to understand what you are doing, rather than letting you care about the Buddha of the Tathagata."
Ao Li's eyes were filled with small circles. Her understanding of Buddhism came from what she saw and heard during this period. After all, at that time, Western religion was just an organization that had just been established and did not even have her own teachings, let alone Buddhism.
On the contrary, the monkey listened with relish and could even put forward some of his own opinions from time to time to prove it to Feng Xue.
The monkey and Feng Xue’s “discussion” did not hide anything. At the beginning, the little monk who was responsible for delivering tea heard it, and then the monks around him gathered more and more.
I have to say that although Guanyin Zen Temple is unbearable in the original work, it is actually of some level. At least these monks can understand what Feng Xue is saying.
Feng Xue and the monkey talked until the evening of the third day. Although there was no strange phenomenon of lotus flowers and golden lotus gushing, the monks were fascinated by hearing it. Even though they had not eaten for more than two days, they still didn't feel hungry.
When the discussion between this man and the monkey came to an end, Elder Jinchi immediately said:
"Disciple Xie Shengshen preached the Dharma, and hoped that the holy monk would leave his Dharma name sect. The 200 monks in Guanyin Zen Temple wished to regard the holy monk as the abbot (note ①) and practice the Dharma of the holy monk..."
Feng Xue was amused when she heard this, but she said that she had studied for the black monk in the Earth era, so she became a Buddhist master. However, due to the evil taste in her heart, she said:
"The Buddha said that in heaven and earth, only 'I' is the only one who is respected. I am the heart, original intention, original consciousness, and change in mind. Only 'consciousness' can be accumulated through learning, so that consciousness can be broken through all phenomena and achieve all dharmas. The school of my monk is called the 'Dharma and Consciousness School'."
"Disciple understand!"
The 200 disciples of Guanyin Zen Temple immediately performed the disciple's rituals and entered the Dharma-Shadow Consciousness-Only Sect. Among them, the contemporary master (the disciple of Elder Jinchi) even said directly:
"It just so happened that Guanyin Zen Temple was destroyed due to a landslide, and the method we practiced has changed, so we just took this to change our name."
"Very good, very good!"
...
A group of monks struggled to discuss what the name of the new temple should be, but Guanyin, who was observing secretly, had a gray face.
If you ask you to come out to obtain the scriptures, you will not tell me that you will abduct all my believers. Wouldn't your conscience be hurt? What made her vomit blood the most was that this temple was still photographed by myself on Fahai's face!
