Section 864 Let the mind travel

There are two things in Rouen that attract An Qingju and An Chuhui. One is the Cathedral of Our Lady, and the other is the Memorial Hall of Joan of Arc. In fact, the Cathedral of Our Lady is almost every larger town in France. The reason why Rouen is more noble is that it appears in Monet's famous impressionist painting "Cathedral of Our Lady":

This church is indeed very grand. It was built in the 11th century and was renovated for more than 400 years before it became what it is today. Monet originally painted the famous painting at the location "i" opposite the church.

However, An Qingju and An Chuyu first saw the Cathedral of Our Lady, and then saw Monet's painting "Roen Cathedral. The gate seen from the front, the Brown Harmony" by Monet at the Musee de Orsay in Paris. It was not until he was writing a travelogue that he suddenly discovered that this church is that church, and he was disrespectful!

What really made An Qingju and An Chuhui stop in Rouen was Joan of Arc's Church: This church is a newly established church in the old market square in Rouen, where the 19-year-old Joan of Arc was stolen. There is also a sculpture that looks like a cross and a sword on the square, which is the Joan of Arc's stolen memorial column.

Regarding Joan of Arc, there are countless poems, paintings, sculptures, movies, biographies, and even animations in the world. An Qingju and An Chuhui later saw various artistic images of Joan of Arc in the Louvre and many places in France:

Both An Qingju and An Chuyu knew that Joan of Arc was an illiterate French country girl during the Hundred Years of War in Britain and France. According to records, she heard the enlightenment of God and persuaded the nobles to let her go to war, supported Charles VII's crowning, led the French people to resist the British invasion, and made a decisive contribution to France's final victory.

There are two things that impress An Qingju in this story:

First, there is a detailed chronicle that records the entire process of Joan of Arc leading the French team to fight, Joan of Arc's trial, and the retrial after Joan of Arc's death, which finally cleared the grievances. The entire process has written records at that time, which makes the subsequent mythological image of "Joan of Arc" very factually based, more sacred and more fascinating.

Second, Joan of Arc supported King Charles VII of the Dharma, and it was Charles VII who sold Joan of Arc to England. When he saw this at An Qingju University, he was very angry and believed that Charles VII was a real villain.

This person is often defined as a "clown" in movies and literary works. But when people re-look at this history after middle age, they gradually found that Charles VII was not simple. Before Charles VII ascended the throne, the Hundred Years' War had been going on for many years. Most of the French nobles had British blood, so whether the French king could not decide whether he could do so was not his own.

The appearance of Joan of Arc allowed Charles VII to use the power of the French people, and it was Charles VII's push that made Joan of Arc a hero.

But when Charles VII gained an advantage, he could not let Joan of Arc advance and anger the other princes. The Duke of Burgundy seized Joan of Arc and sold her to England, and Charles VII did not rescue him. In this way, the people hated the Duke of Burgundy and the British rather than him, Charles VII.

The Duke of Burgundy gained the benefits of Charles VII and became convenient for cooperation in the future, and the British, who hated and feared Joan of Arc, calmed down their anger, so Charles VII was relieved. This method of using the stone bird was a politician. In fact, it was Charles VII's scheming. He finally won the Hundred Years War and unified France.

"The monarch, especially the new monarch, cannot maintain all those respected qualities. In order to maintain the country, he often has to betray his faith and go against friendship, humanity and religion." This sentence roughly explains his behavior.

However, what An Qingju and An Chuyu don’t understand most when visiting Joan of Arc is the church itself. Countless texts say that the church building is topped with slate or copper scales. The building is shaped like a pirate ship and a fish.

But as long as you stand at a suitable angle, you will just see the roof that is called a "sailboat" shape and the two windows that are "portholes". They just form a witch's avatar in a black hat? An Chuyu dares to say that the shape of the window is completely alluding to the witch's eyes, narrow and weird, and small eyes.

I really don’t know what this is to commemorate, or is the designer having other ideas?

Leaving Rouen, An Qingju and An Chuyu continued to head north and arrived at the entrance of the Seine River. This small town is a typical port city, but not the kind of port in China. It is the kind of port with many beautiful sailing boats. An Qingju and An Chuyu's cars hardly stopped here, and An Qingju only pinched a few glimpses of the port through the car window.

With this quick glance, I can fully understand why those Impressionist painters were particularly fond of this port landscape and were tirelessly depicting them on canvas.

"You have to take a look at the Normandy Beach and experience the place where the Allied forces landed in person." An Chuyu said.

"Let's look at the famous Bayeux tapestry and take a good look at the story of William the Conqueror." An Qingju said.

When these two wishes collided, they became the destination of An Qingju and An Chu today: Bayeux. The two conquests marked the history of Bayeux: the Normans conquered Britain, and the conquered British returned to liberate France. The first city that the coalition forces landed in Normandy and liberated was Bayeux.

An Qingju and An Chuyu drove 100 kilometers from Honfleur to Bayeux. The city is very small and feels a bit similar to Rouen. There is also a Cathedral of Our Lady, with the streets ancient and clean.

It was already past five o'clock when An Qingju and An Chu met. This bed and breakfast was staying in Bayeux. This bed and breakfast was located on a quiet street. The car was conveniently parked on the side of the road (free). Walking forward a little 5 minutes later, you can enter the center of the old city - this is the best thing for a small city.

This is the second B&B in France. At this time, An Qingju and An Chuyu had already discovered the common point of the B&B, that is, the agreed time for check-in is usually late, usually after 5 pm (a better 4 o'clock). If they come earlier than this time, they will not receive it.

European B&Bs are different from the "farmhouses" in China. The accommodation conditions are very comfortable and have a strong local cultural atmosphere. People who have experienced it will probably like it. However, the checkout time is late, and the morning is usually required to checkout before 10 o'clock, which makes the accommodation method of B&Bs very unsuitable for the "only stay for one night" travel style.

So I settled down late and had to rush back in the morning. It was so busy. I realized this when I met Bayeu. An Qingju and An Chuhui, and then I felt it even deeper. When I stayed in a hotel, there was no problem with "only one night". For example, checking in a hiton in Luxembourg before noon, checking out before 2 pm the next day, and the time was very calm.

There is still some time before dinner. After looking at the map, I found that An Qingju and An Chuyu are only 15 minutes away from the Bayeuxetery. You might as well go and take a look first.

Bayeux War Cemetery is diagonally opposite the Normandy Landing Memorial Museum (Mu Seme Aldelaballedenormandie), the largest of the 18 Commonwealth Army Cemeteries in Normandy. Here are 4,848 soldiers from Britain and 10 other countries including Germany.

Each tombstone carved the symbols of the military branches where the soldiers are located, country, name, rank, birth and death. What surprised An Qingju and An Chuhui was that there were also tombstones of the dead German soldiers here. Both sides on the battlefield had victory or defeat, and the dead were equal.

There is also a monument to commemorate 1,807 Commonwealth soldiers whose remains were not found across the street outside the cemetery. Across the top of it is the inscription of Dading: "When he was conquered by William, he now liberates the motherland of the conquerors."

As mentioned earlier, 18 cemeteries were left on the battlefield of Normandy landing, distributed in many towns and suburbs along Normandy Beach. There is the most famous cemetery, which is the cemetery in Omaha Beach Heights near Caen. That cemetery is the largest cemetery in Normandy by the US team, and it appeared in the movie "Save the Private Ryan":

However, An Qingju and An Chuyu did not go there to see it specifically. The atmosphere of each cemetery is similar, just feel it. It is still very touching to leave so many and such large places for the aliens to sleep forever.

The Normandy Landing Memorial Museum opposite the Bayeux War Cemetery has closed today. An Qingju and An Chu will come here for tomorrow's D-day trip.

The first meal returned from the cemetery. What An Qingju and An Chuyu had to do was return to Bayeux Old Town for a French dinner. When we arrived in France yesterday, we also had a lot of pork ribs from Daoxiang Village brought from the capital. Today we packed them up for lunch, so this dinner was the first meal An Qingju and An Chuyu had in France.

lp. Many restaurants in Bayeux Old Town were recommended. The receptionist of the B&B enthusiastically helped An Qingju and An Chuyu mark the locations of these restaurants on the map. An Qingju and An Chuyu chose a family called Lepom Fan (divided across from the Church of Our Lady).

That's great, this restaurant offers an English menu (An Qingju and An Chuhui later thought that restaurants without English menus seemed more authentic, and of course they also challenged your ability to guess words). Only after sitting down and eating, would you slowly understand some ways to eat in France: First of all, please let others get a seat at the door, don't just sit in.

Second, no matter the restaurant, once you sit down, you will be a fixed person from beginning to end. It is not easy to call other waiters. Third, no matter what you eat, you must first solve the problem of APE daily tif (somethingtod daily nk). Even if you say you need free boiled water, you must first take a D-nk before you can order food.
