Chapter 1 Entering Beijing(1/2)
Awakening of Insects.
The electric light is like a chaotic python, crushing the gloomy sea of clouds and turning the earth into a river.
During the violent thunder and rain, a black oil-paper umbrella followed the awning boat and floated past the water gate of Linhefang in the capital.
Along both sides of the river, the wind and rain all over the city stirred up three thousand willow trees.
Zuo Lingquan stood on the bow of the boat and looked at the jagged buildings in the capital. He felt that the scene in front of him was very similar to the "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" in his memory.
Seventeen years after coming to this world, the memory of the past has long been blurred, but Zuo Lingquan can confirm that this is not a world where only scholars are romantic.
This is Donghua City, the capital of the Great Dan Dynasty.
Seventeen years ago, Zuo Lingquan was born in Qinghe County of the Great Dan Dynasty. He was the legitimate son of the Zuo family, a large local landowner. His family had great wealth and thousands of hectares of fertile land. He was very lucky to be born into a good child.
When he first came here, Zuo Lingquan thought he could live his life as a silly son of a landlord, having no worries about food and clothing, but as a toddler, he discovered that this world was a little different.
The people here are very powerful, and the best ones can fly into the sky, escape from the earth, and move mountains and seas; the animals are equally impressive, and stories about foxes repaying kindness and monsters transforming into different forms are widely circulated.
Although Zuo Lingquan has never seen these strange people and strange things when he has grown up, he can still get a glimpse of the mystery and vastness of this world from just a few words in ancient books.
As a human being in two lifetimes, Zuo Lingquan never wanted to fly ninety thousand miles to the top of the mountain to see what the world was like.
It is a pity that even though he has a huge fortune, he has become an ordinary person in this unusual world because of his congenital blocked meridians.
This time when I entered Beijing, because of my outstanding appearance, I was named to be the consort of the princess of the dynasty.
As soon as you are born, you will have no worries in this life. The road is ahead but there is no way to enter it.
Zuo Lingquan didn't know whether his background was lucky or unfortunate.
Suddenly, a awning boat docked on the street.
Zuo Lingquan recovered his thoughts, flicked his fingers, threw a piece of silver to the boatman, and stepped onto the bluestone street of Linhefang.
The boatman caught the silver ingot and was flattered:
"Sir, I gave you too much."
"For your reward."
Zuo Lingquan waved his hand casually and walked straight into the rain curtain.
The boatman held the silver ingot in his hand, his eyes full of gratitude, and was about to push the awning boat away from the river bank. Suddenly, he heard the sound of splashing water from the bank, followed by the woman's scream.
He looked up and saw a little woman in a beaded hairdress and sarong standing at the door of a streetside restaurant, holding a wooden basin in her hand, her eyes full of fear.
The street was filled with mist. Zuo Lingquan, who had just walked out a few steps, stood stunned in the mist.
The boatman's eyes were stunned. He didn't expect that this young man was no more handsome than three steps. He was afraid of a conflict between the two sides, so he quickly tried to smooth things over:
"Mr. Tang, when the young master just arrived in the capital, you threw bath water all over him. You saw that the young master was handsome and wanted to say hello. It was not you who hit him like this."
As soon as he said this, the guests in the tea shop and wine shop burst into laughter.
Zuo Lingquan raised his umbrella to cover his head and looked towards the wine shop.
There was a yellowed wine flag hanging in the wine shop, with only the word "Soup" written on it.
The little woman holding a wooden basin stood under the eaves, wearing a beaded sarong, simple and clean, with bulging skirts, a white tofu-like face, and eyes widened with fear, which added to the look.
A different flavor.
However, the little woman seemed quite naughty. When she heard the boatman’s teasing, she immediately glared back:
"What are you talking about? You didn't see me, so you were careless?"
After saying that, the little woman looked at Zuo Lingquan with apology in her eyes:
"Sir, I'm really sorry. It's raining so hard. I thought there was no one on the street. This is boiling water for making wine, not bathing water."
boiling water?
Worse than bath water.
Zuo Lingquan looked at the white mist all over the ground and wanted to give him a few words of reprimand. It was obvious that the other party was a womanizer. After thinking about it, he said:
"Be careful next time. If you splash ordinary women and children, they will be disfigured on the spot."
"Young master taught me this lesson."
The young woman nodded awkwardly, looked up, and saw the young man in front of her, wearing a teal robe, with a Pisces pendant hanging from his belt, long hair tied up with a black hairband, sword-shaped eyebrows, starry eyes, a high nose, and a straight face.
He is tough and tough, with a green leather sheath hanging on his waist and a sword hanging on his waist. He looks handsome and brings disaster to the country and the people.
I just moved the umbrella to cover the splashing water, so there were a lot of raindrops on my cheeks and brocade robe.
The little woman blinked her eyes, feeling embarrassed for turning such a handsome young man into a drowned rat, and said again:
"Master, why don't you come into the store and I can find a towel to wipe you with?"
Zuo Lingquan came here after a long journey and had not yet had lunch. When he saw the aroma of wine in the shop, he did not refuse. He put away his umbrella under the eaves and walked into Tangjia Restaurant.
The wine shop is not big, with four small wine tables, a wine vat and a stove for warming wine in the corner.
There were already two guests sitting on the wine table inside. They were dressed in black fish scale armor and had sabers at their sides. One was an old man and the other was a young man. They seemed to be patrolmen from Linhefang.
Zuo Lingquan entered the wine shop and sat down at the wine table by the window. The little woman quickly ran into the backyard to find a towel.
The old policeman at the next table saw this and said:
"Jingxun, you need to change your temper in the future. Thank you for your good temper today. Otherwise, if you had to pay for this Yunzhongjin robe, your work in the first half of the year would have been in vain."
A young woman named Tang Jingxun came out with a white towel and said angrily:
"My young master is gentle, elegant, well-educated, and he looks like a reasonable scholar at first glance. Do you think he is just like you, an old man who talks dirty words and likes to take advantage of you? Don't you think he is?"
Zuo Lingquan responded politely to this compliment:
"Auntie, thank you very much."
Auntie?
Tang Jingxuan's bright smile froze, and she pursed her lips, obviously wanting to curse, but in the end she held it back and said slightly dissatisfied:
"Sir, I'm not married yet, so how can I call you aunt? My name is Tang Jingxun, you can call me Sister Tang. If you don't want to call me Sister, you can call me Xiaoxun."
Zuo Lingquan was a little surprised. Looking at the appearance of the young woman in front of him, her charm was so mature that it seemed like she could drip water. She was definitely not young in this world.
However, Zuo Lingquan couldn't ask too much about the woman's family affairs, so he changed his words:
"Lady boss, what do you have to eat here?"
Tang Jingxuan had a smile on his face and quickly introduced the wine shop's dishes to go with the wine.
Seeing that nothing happened, the old policeman finished his glass of wine, put five large coins on the table, and walked out with the young policeman.
Seeing this, Tang Jingxun turned around and greeted:
"Lao Zhang, don't you want to drink anymore?"
The old detective walked out of the wine shop carrying the old sword with a yellow scabbard and waved his hand:
"That's all, I've been drinking here for more than ten years, not to mention my butt, and I haven't even been touched by my hands. The business is not kind."
When Tang Jingxuan heard this nonsense, he didn't feel the slightest bit ashamed and cursed back on the spot:
"Bah - I'm not a brothel here. If I want to touch you, go to the alley in front, but I'm afraid you're too old..."
Having said this, Tang Jingxun quickly stopped his harsh words and smiled shyly when he found Zuo Lingquan sitting in front of him:
"Lao Zhang is the patrolman of Linhefang. He is a good man and has great abilities. He just has a big mouth. Don't mind, sir."
Zuo Lingquan thought it was quite interesting, so he didn't mind.
After a while, Tang Jingxuan fetched a pot of wine and two plates of side dishes and placed them on the table.
As soon as Zuo Lingquan picked up his chopsticks, another ship docked at the pier outside the restaurant.
This time it was a big ship, and the deck was crowded with maids and servants.
As the pedal was lowered, more than a dozen young men in their prime came down from the top. They were all dressed in luxurious clothes. Some of them had phoenix eyes and eyebrows, and they were both male and female, attracting many appreciative glances.
There were no other guests in the wine shop. Tang Jingxuan stood at the door and watched the excitement. After discovering these foreign young men, he said:
"The ships from the four southern counties, these gentlemen are all here to compete for the eldest princess's hydrangea, right?"
The four southern counties were the granary of the Great Dan Dynasty's wealth. Zuo Lingquan came from Qinghe County among the four counties. He was supposed to take this official ship to Beijing. He glanced out the window and nodded:
"Yes, we were supposed to arrive a few days ago, but it rained heavily for days and the river swelled, so we were delayed for a few days."
"oh?"
Seeing Zuo Lingquan's understanding, Tang Jingxun was thoughtful. He turned around and sat on the wine table next to him. He put his chin on his hand and asked curiously:
"The day after tomorrow, when the eldest princess selects her consort, young gentlemen from aristocratic families of suitable age from all over the country are called to the capital. I see that the young master has a good temperament. Could it be that he is here for this too?"
Zuo Lingquan was ordered by his elders and came here for this matter.
But he has a huge fortune, and even if he can't travel thousands of miles in this life, he can easily indulge in wine and meat, how can he be interested in the concubine who can't take concubines?
Zuo Lingquan hesitated for a moment before responding ambiguously:
"I came here alone, without even an entourage, as if I were vying for the prince-in-law?"
To be continued...
