Nine hundred and twentieth chapters ambush

Colonel Celte did not think much and immediately ordered: "Retreat to the village!"

The British soldiers responded and immediately entered the retreat procedure... and asked the engineers to lay mines in the rear to block the enemy, and at the same time arranged a small force to cover the rear.

These actions are necessary, otherwise the British 2nd Paratrooper Brigade would not be able to escape the pursuit of the German Mechanized Infantry Division.

From this we can also see the quality of British paratroopers... Although the performance of British troops in World War II can only be said to be average, the paratroopers are definitely elite.

However, even elites are completely unable to exert their combat effectiveness under wrong strategies and commands.

More than ten minutes later, the 2nd British Paratrooper Brigade, carrying a full of equipment, ran to this village called Oster in anger.

When Colonel Celt was advancing, he used a telescope to observe the surrounding terrain. It was indeed a suitable place for defense... The village was built on a hill with many trees around it, which was very suitable for paratroopers to fight against the enemy's mechanized troops.

"Good job, Lieutenant Colonel!" Colonel Celter said to the staff officer: "You saved us!"

"This is what I should do, Colonel!" the consultant replied.

This is actually common sense. If the land here is full of water, then the village must be built on a high place, because their house needs a foundation... The water located in it will make the foundation unstable and it is also inconvenient to build a house.

Therefore, villages with commanding heights and various houses will definitely become an excellent defensive position in the 2nd Paratrooper Brigade.

Several whistling sounds of shells came from behind, and several shells exploded nearby and pulled out a piece of mud and flew everywhere... German mechanized troops caught up with them.

While hiding his back, Selt yelled at the same time: "Go to the village immediately to organize defense!"

"Yes, colonel!" The British soldiers ran towards the village with their equipment with their breasts. They knew that as long as they were half a step slower, they might never reach that village.

But what they had never expected was that villages suitable for defense were also suitable for hidden tanks.

Therefore, the real God of Death is actually in front of them, and is gently waving the sickle to harvest life...

Just as the British soldiers were about to pour into the village, the windows suddenly opened with a "trumpet".

In fact, it is not opened, but the entire drop from top to bottom, and then the black muzzle of a door in the window is exposed.

"God, this is a trap!" Celter screamed.

Before Celte could order his retreat, a fire broke out from the muzzle, and a few shells exploded among the British soldiers with a "boom", causing the British soldiers to scream.

Colonel Celt looked back and looked ahead, then gritted his teeth and ordered: "Continue to move forward, this may be just a small German army, destroy them and occupy this village..."

Before Colonel Celter finished speaking, he was surprised to find that there was no small army in front of him, because there were already "Leopard" tanks breaking through the walls of the house and they rushed towards him, with a rough count of at least thirty.

"Col. What is your order?" A soldier asked loudly: "Are you still occupying this village?"

"No, retreat!" Colonel Celt screamed almost hysterically: "Retreat, retreat to anywhere you can hide!"

In fact, this order was completely invalid because at that moment, the British soldiers had already fled in all directions... This was not retreat, but defeat.

But even so, it was difficult for British soldiers to escape from the Germans, because German mechanized troops had surrounded their flanks from the other side.

At the same time, the "Leopard" tank rushed into the British army under the cover of German soldiers and killed indiscriminately, bombarded, fired machine guns, and rolled tracks.

Even the British army's armored forces could not withstand the attack of this new tank second only to the "Tiger" style, let alone airborne troops equipped with light weapons.

Pieces of British airborne soldiers fell into pools of blood under the firepower of the German army. The slopes outside the village were soon filled with blood and corpses of British soldiers.

Somewhat different from the 1st Paratrooper Brigade, the 2nd Paratrooper Brigade did not choose to surrender after being found at a disadvantage.

The reason may be that there is a condition for surrender "to be forced" or it can be said that "continuing to fight is meaningless."

This degree is difficult to grasp... If some commanders are timid or retreat at the last minute, they can use the excuse of "continuing to fight is meaningless". Whether it is "meaningless" depends largely on subjective judgment.

But the British airborne troops obviously did not use this as an excuse.

The 1st Paratrooper Brigade was surrounded by enemy armored troops on open terrain. In that case, it was indeed forced to do so, and there was no problem in choosing to surrender.

The 2nd Paratrooper Brigade is a mountainous area with jungles nearby, and the jungle can become a place for them to hide and continue to resist.

As for being surrounded by the enemy... it is abnormal that paratroopers are not surrounded by the enemy.

Therefore, Colonel Celt did not order the soldiers to surrender, but instead allowed the soldiers to break into pieces and scatter into the jungle to fight guerrilla warfare with the Germans.

This approach is correct because although the front armor of the "Leopard" tank is about 100mm thick, the thickness of the turret is only 45mm on both sides and even 40mm on both sides of the car body... The "Bazuka" bazooka equipped by the British army can easily penetrate it.

At the same time, the jungle is very suitable for British troops to hide.

As a result, while the German army was attacking the British army, they were actually defeated by a team of British troops hiding on the high ground, and lost three "Leopard" tanks twice.

It was not that the German army could not capture this high ground, but that they were unwilling to let the "Leopard" tanks suffer losses, and they were still a few scattered soldiers, so they remained in a stalemate between them.

Perhaps because of my admiration for the British army's combat spirit and fighting will, something quite intriguing happened:

The German army called out to the British army and asked them to send the wounded out to surrender.

The British army did this. They asked soldiers without weapons to carry more than 20 wounded soldiers, put the wounded in front of the Germans and then returned... From beginning to end, the Germans did not fire, and treated the wounded in front of the British and then carried them to the rear.

After that, the two armies launched a life-and-death battle again, as if the heartwarming scene just now had not happened at all.

So, sometimes war is not entirely cruel and killing.

As the saying goes, "Everything will turn back when extremes are extremes." Soldiers who are tired of all this occasionally show the kind nature of human beings.
