Chapter 813 Mission

The assignment of tasks is as follows:

The 48th Panzer Army was responsible for the road attack from Butowo to Cerkaskoye.

The SS 2nd Armored Army attacked from another highway, namely Tomarovka to Bekovka.

The attack is not to directly rush the troops onto the road, so there is no point in doing so.

The most important thing in real battles is not the highway but the commanding heights on both sides of the highway. As long as you occupy these highlands, you can almost say that you control the highway.

Of course, these highlands were all in the hands of the Soviet army, and they also built quite solid field fortifications waiting for the German army.

The offense started at 3 a.m. the next day.

To be precise, this can only be considered an early attack... the reconnaissance troops, engineer troops and commandos were sent out first.

The reconnaissance forces set out to explore the situation in the dark and design several feasible offensive routes. Then the engineers will start to clear mines according to the offensive route designed by the scout. The commando carried double grenades and assault rifles, submachine guns and pistols along the road opened by the engineers.

All of this is done in the darkness and even without the enemy's awareness, that is, before the battle officially begins, the commando has lurked in front of the enemy's positions and waited for the moment when the battle begins.

At 5:15 a.m., as soon as several red signal flares rose into the air, the whistling of artillery shells sounded immediately in the direction of the German army, and then one shell was blown up on the 223.6 high ground where the Soviet army was stationed.

This can easily lead to misunderstanding that a large-scale shelling operation is about to begin.

But in fact, this is a scam. While the Soviet army was hiding in fortifications to avoid artillery, the German commando lurking in front of the position took advantage of this time to rush up.

Then the sound of artillery suddenly stopped. Except for the Soviet Union's artillery suppression of German artillery... these artillery fires actually did not play much role at all, and they were especially unable to rescue the Soviet army in the trenches on the front line.

With a command, the German commando launched an attack on the trenches.

They threw rows of grenades into the Soviet trenches, and after the grenades exploded, they rushed into the trenches with assault rifles and submachine guns to fight the Soviet army in close range.

If the Soviet soldiers resisted more tenaciously, a German combat engineer carrying a fuel bottle would suddenly appear from the trenches. He raised his spray gun and pulled the trigger, and then a ball of flame would erupt and burn all the Soviet troops into a ball of flame.

This is a common attack method used by the German army. The 48th Armored Army used this method to win the 223.6th Heights. The focus was on the close cooperation between scouts, engineers, commandos and artillery. In addition, all commandos carried weapons and equipment suitable for melee combat, so they immediately beat the Soviet army to flee in a panic.

The SS 2nd Armored Army did not use this method.

They delayed the attack for a while... In fact, they waited until 6 o'clock, that is, when it was dawn. After a fierce round of artillery bombing, the minesweeping tanks opened on the road, followed by five Tiger tanks. The Stuka bombers roared down from the air and destroyed every dangerous point reported by the aerial scouts, and then the infantry launched an attack under the cover of Tiger tanks and bombers.

The SS's attack was simple and rough, and relied on a large amount of modern equipment, especially the "Tiger" tank. This was the first time the Soviet army saw this tank. Various anti-tank gun shells hit it just a dent. However, the anti-tank gun exposed the target because of the firing. The "Tiger" adjusted the angle, and then bombed them into the sky with one shot.

So, the SS quickly broke through the first line of defense.

None of this needs to be cared for by Qin Chuan. What Qin Chuan needs to be cared for is when the armored army will encounter the main force of the Soviet tank and be blocked.

Hort's Army Command continuously reported the progress of the battle situation, and then marked the positions of each unit on the sand table based on these progress.

"The 'Tiger' tanks are moving forward!" Hort looked at the telegram, and then said to Qin Chuan: "But from the start of the war, five 'Tiger's' have broken down. They were not destroyed by the enemy, but defeated by themselves!"

"We will fix them, General!" Lieutenant General Walter, the commander of the 2nd Armored Army of the SS, said: "They will launch the troops in the front again, and then roll all the enemies standing in front under the track!"

"Don't be so confident, Lieutenant General!" Hort replied: "Because we have the intelligence, the Soviets have 1,700 tanks in this direction, and we have not yet encountered them!"

The information was just interrogated from prisoners of war, but the numbers given by several prisoners of war were different, and Hort believed the number 1700.

Because he believed... if the Soviet army had more than 4,000 tanks, then the Soviet army might have arranged more than 2,000 vehicles to attack Orel, and another small part was arranged in the protruding unit.

What Hot didn't know was that the total number of Soviet tanks was actually more than 5,000. However, the number of 1,700 vehicles in the direction of Belgorod is still accurate.

This number is nearly twice the total number of German tanks.

"General!" Walter's mouth showed a disdainful smile: "In the face of the 'Tiger', all the Soviet tanks were just numbers, some meaningless numbers, and they will soon be wiped out in front of us. To consider whether this number is threatening, it should be the 48th Armored Army or the 'Legend Sergeant'."

As he said that, Walter turned around and asked Qin Chuan: "I'm right, Lieutenant Colonel?"

Lieutenant General Kishna, the commander of the 48th Armored Army, asked in anger: "Please express your meaning clearly. General Walter, are you disdainful of the combat effectiveness of the 48th Armored Army?"

"I didn't say that, General Kirchner!" Walter replied, "Sorry, if anything offended you, I didn't mean it!"

That being said, Walter still had that mocking and joking smile on his face.

This made Lieutenant General Kirchner angry and had nowhere to go, so he could only grit his teeth and endure it.

Lieutenant General of the SS, whom even General Hort dared to offend easily, let alone Lieutenant General Kirchner.

But Qin Chuan didn't care about this. He replied: "General Walter, what do you mean... Is it enough for this battle to only require the SS 2nd Armored Army?"

General Hort also wanted to suppress Walter's arrogant arrogance, and he continued: "General Walter, if you really think so, I am willing to change my plan, or let the SS 2nd Armored Army go further ahead instead of the two armies advancing in unison!"

"No, General!" Lieutenant General Walter had to lower his posture when he heard this: "I think the original plan is very good, and I obey your command!"
