Chapter 493 Glider

Compared with parachute airdrop supply, gliders have several advantages:

First, the parachute drop will be blown away by strong wind during the landing, causing it to fall outside the target area, making it impossible for the German army to obtain supplies.

This is particularly serious for Holm, because the German army only has a few square kilometers in Holm's control area, especially the control area is still lentil-shaped. Even low-altitude airdrops will cause about half of the airborne materials to fall into the enemy's controlled area or between the two defense lines. Moreover, after the Soviet army strengthened its air defense forces, the German transport aircraft could hardly drop at low altitude, so the supplies obtained were reduced in number.

If it weren't for the seizure of a batch of peacekeeping guns from the Soviet army during the siege, I'm afraid the German army would not be able to hold on just because of insufficient ammunition.

There is no problem with gliders. They are landing directly instead of airdrops, and their accuracy is much greater than airdrops.

Secondly, glider airborne is safer than parachute airdrops.

Parachute airdrops must be implemented by transport aircraft flying over Holm, and there is a lot of noise when the transport aircraft is flying, which will remind the Soviet air defense forces as soon as possible and then the air defense firepower will play a role.

But there is a glider airborne... Although it requires traction from the transport aircraft, it can be removed from the hook within ten kilometers, and then transported back to the base, while the glider continues to "fly" towards the target.

Since it has no power on its own, there is no noise when flying in the air.

Therefore, the German army often chose to airborne before dawn, so that the Soviet army could not detect the existence of gliders at all, so of course there was no interception.

Early that morning, Qin Chuan and his men were ready to welcome the glider.

"Here!" said Kuhn, holding the telescope, "Indicator light!"

A few people called out indicator signals into the air... This is a special indicator light, and only one direction can see its light, which can reduce the chance of being discovered by the enemy.

Qin Chuan raised his telescope and vaguely saw a shadow appearing in the night sky, like an eagle with giant wings spreading, silently approaching his prey.

Then he got closer and bigger, and then dived at a large angle, skillfully lowered the nose before landing, and stopped by a "swish" sound of skiing, only 20 meters away from the soldiers.

Qin Chuan was not surprised by this. Almost all the German young people in this era were experts in gliders... This was also forced out by the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty of Versailles stipulated that Germany should not own and develop any military aircraft, but the gliders were not included.

Therefore, Germany seized this gap and set up countless glider clubs in the country to train glider talents.

What's even more exaggerated is that after Hitler came to power in 1933, glider training became one of the compulsory courses in every German high school, so it is no exaggeration to say that almost every young German man has certain glider flying skills.

Of course, except for Qinchuan.

However, as Qin Chuan's current identity, it seems that he no longer needs to master the skills of gliders.

As soon as the glider landed, Qin Chuan took the soldiers up to receive supplies.

While the soldiers were busy moving things down from the glider, Qin Chuan went up and shook hands with the pilot who jumped off the glider and said, "Sergeant, is everything going well?"

"Everything goes well, sir!" the pilot replied: "I brought you medicine and food, and the marshal's condolences!"

"Very good!" Qin Chuan replied: "But you can also accept this condolence. On the one hand, it is for the food you bring, and on the other hand... you will soon become a part of us!"

Because Holm has no airport and the open space that allows landing is very small, it only allows gliders to land but cannot let it take off again, which means that all pilots coming with supplies must stay in Holm until the rescue.

This may sound like no big deal, but it is actually great, because no one knows when Holm will or even whether it will be able to rescue it. It can basically be regarded as a death mission.

But the pilot looked relaxed and did not feel scared or complained about it at all.

"I'm honored, sir!" the pilot replied: "In fact, I only have one requirement for this mission!"

"What are the requirements?" Qin Chuan asked.

"I hope to fight with the 'Legend Sergeant'!" said the pilot: "Do you know where he is, Captain?"

Qin Chuan rolled his eyes, and the soldiers carrying supplies couldn't help laughing.

Kuhn said as he carried a box of ammunition and said, "He is right in front of you, Sgt.!"

Upon hearing this, the pilot couldn't help but stare at Qin Chuan with wide eyes. He was stunned for a while before he stood up and saluted at Qin Chuan: "My name is Thomas, Captain, I'm honored to see you!"

"Put down your hand, Sergeant!" Qin Chuan said: "You may kill me!"

"Yes, Captain!"

"So, you haven't participated in the battle?" Qin Chuan asked.

"Of course I've attended!" Thomas replied: "It's just a correspondent!"

"How could they let a correspondent fly a glider?" Qin Chuan asked.

"You know!" Thomas replied: "They thought it was a huge waste to send good pilots here, so they recruited volunteers from the logistics forces who could fly gliders skillfully!"

"So... were you volunteering?" Qin Chuan looked at Thomas in disbelief.

"Yes!"

"Why?" Qin Chuan asked while carrying a bag of flour toward the cellar.

"I said it just now!" Thomas hurriedly carried a bag of flour and chased after him: "I hope to fight under your command!"

"It seems that our captain has gained another loyal fan!" The baker couldn't help but laugh.

Werner answered: "My fans are called fans, what are the fans of the Captain?"

"Maybe it can be called a war fan!" Dominic said, and then laughed with the others.

"You should go to someone else's report, Sgt.!" Qin Chuan said to Thomas: "They will arrange a more comfortable job for you!"

This is for sure, because these pilots brought supplies to Holm, and even put themselves in the surrounded Holm. As a kind of thanks to them, they are generally not arranged to go to the battlefield.

"But this is my only request!" Thomas replied: "Col. Boer promised me that you will agree!"

"Let's take him!" Kuhn said: "We have even lost a few people. Maybe he will be a good helper!"

"Okay!" Qin Chuan said to Thomas: "It's up to you, I hope you won't regret it!"
