Chapter 484 Tunnel Warfare

Strictly speaking, this should be "tunnel war" rather than "tunnel war".

The two are very similar in form, both digging holes underground, but there are actually differences.

The biggest difference is that the tunnel of "tunnel warfare" is built on the high ground. There is only one tunnel entrance exposed outside. The main body of the tunnel is inside the high ground. Due to the nature of the high ground, it is difficult to dig the tunnel from the outside.

"Tunnel Warfare" is generally built on flat ground or high ground with low terrain. If you know the direction of the tunnel, it is easier to find the tunnel.

Therefore, there are great differences in their combat methods. For example, "tunnel warfare" uses tunnel entrances to cover each other, uses high ground to achieve "hidden troops", "mobile" and combines them with the reverse slope positions to fight.

"Tunnel Warfare" is to use buildings on the surface to hide tunnel entrances for mobile combat.

Of course, Qin Chuan used the tactic of "Tunnel Warfare" here not to rely on this tactic to fight the Soviet army, but was forced to be unable to do anything by the Soviet army and the cold.

After the chimney was tidyed and proved to be effective, the morale of the troops was quickly improved.

Originally, everyone, including the soldiers of the First Infantry Regiment, had a negative attitude towards this war... It was not their fault. Thousands of people occupied a small highland and were surrounded by the Soviet army outside. Moreover, the Soviet army was tanked and cannoned, but the German army had nothing.

The huge gap between the enemy and us is obvious, especially when you can't make a fire at night, the food you eat is cold and you can't sleep... If you continue like this, you won't be talking about war, and it won't take a few days to either freeze or get tired and you'll finish it soon.

But now, once the chimney is ready, it can be roasted immediately. The cellar is as warm as a greenhouse and becomes a good place to rest and sleep. With a pot, you can certainly eat hot food.

The soldiers’ requirements are actually very simple... The problem of food and clothing has been solved, and the problem of sleep has been solved, so even if you die in battle on the battlefield, you will be very comfortable.

On this basis, it is of course no problem to let the soldiers undergo authentic transformation.

The renovation of authentic tunnels does not look difficult on the surface. The houses in the town are not far apart, with a distance of more than ten meters. In other words, you only need to be in a right direction and dig an authentic tunnel more than ten meters deep from the flanks to connect to each other.

But it's not that simple to dig it up.

First of all, I am worried about the collapse... The cellar is very close to the ground, and most of it is made of cement concrete, so I don’t worry about collapse. However, if the tunnel is directly dug from the side wall, the thickness of the soil layer on the tunnel is probably not even a meter. If several shells are shaken or hit, it will cause the tunnel to collapse in pieces.

To avoid this problem, we do not directly hit the tunnel from the side wall, but first hit it down and then extend toward another cellar.

"Be careful not to extend straight lines!" This is Qin Chuan's requirement for authenticity.

Colonel Slain asked in confusion: "Why can't we be straight? Our tunnels seem to be straight, but there are a few corners!"

"The tunnel is different from the tunnel!" Qin Chuan replied: "The tunnel is easier to defend, and there is basically no tunnel occupied by the enemy! But the tunnel... If it is tied into a straight line, once the enemy occupy one of the cellars, you only need to set up a machine gun to threaten everyone in the other cellar!"

Colonel Slain couldn't help but nodded in agreement.

Therefore, the tunnel was built into an arc, connecting from this cellar to another cellar like an arch bridge, and then from another cellar to more cellars. Some also lead the tunnel to trenches, hospitals or other locations that could be visited during wartime, making it like an underground city.

On the other hand, the promised supplies of the Group Army Command also arrived as scheduled in the afternoon of the same day... First, two fighter jets and four fighter jets bombed in a mess according to the Soviet artillery and air defense fire, and then six transport planes flew over Holm with a "rumbling" rumbling.

The Soviet army realized at the first time that these transport planes wanted to airborne supplies, so light and heavy machine guns and air defense firepower attacked these transport planes.

A transporter engine was hit and black smoke rose... But as mentioned earlier, the "Junker 52" was nicknamed "Anne of the Steel" in the German army. As long as the engine did not catch fire and spread to other places, it would be a trivial matter if it had three engines.

So the six transport planes successfully dropped 18 boxes of supplies over Holm... However, 6 boxes were airdropped to Hexi, which was controlled by the enemy, and 2 boxes were airdropped to the open space between the enemy and us and could not be retrieved. Three boxes of the remaining 10 boxes dropped in Hedong were smashed because the parachute was not opened. Fortunately, the bags of flour were packed inside, so it did not affect the use.

A box of supplies fell near the second company's station. Qin Chuan and Kuhn, who were stationed in the trenches, looked at no one else's attention. Without saying a word, they rushed up and raised a bag of flour and ran towards the cellar. Yakep followed behind and carried a few cans, and ran very fast...

These supplies should be handed over to the Logistics Department for statistics before being allocated, but the soldiers who were hungry because of insufficient supplies would not care about this.

When several people ran into the cellar with flour and canned food, they found that Werner had moved a bathtub into the cellar at some point. He was stripped of his legs inside, singing a song while taking a hot bath...

"Sergeant!" Qin Chuan said to Werner while putting the bread down on the shell box: "Aren't you worried about the Soviet attack?"

"Then let them wait!" Werner replied: "It's a real pleasure, Captain, take a hot bath after almost being frozen into an ice sculpture..."

As he said that, Werner stretched out his long furry legs from the bathtub and posed in an ecstasy position, which made the soldiers laugh.

"You'd better get this thing out!" Qin Chuan said: "It makes the cellar full of water vapor, and if the Soviets really attack... you will know what the outcome will be if the Red Eagle and run out with water all over!"

"The sergeant would really turn into an ice sculpture at that time!" Dominic said: "I just want to know if the sergeant's bird would fly away from the cold!"

There was another burst of laughter in the cellar.

"Captain!" After laughing for a while, the baker stared blankly at the two bags of flour that Qin Chuan and Kuhn carried, and asked, "What are you doing with these things?"

“Can’t we make something to eat?”

"But we don't have yeast!" said the baker. "And we don't have an oven either!"
