Chapter 466 Ski Camp

There was a "swish" sound opposite, and occasionally a few commands shouted by Soviet officers.

Then several Soviet soldiers jumped from across the river...

Yes, they jumped from the other side of the river because they were Soviet skiing troops, with snowboards and ski poles in hand, and were moving rapidly.

Before the German soldiers could react, they had already arrived in the river. Then a large group of people were handsomely "leaping" from several different locations and sliding along the river toward this side.

This surprised the German soldiers, not only because they saw the Soviet skiing troops for the first time, but also because the Soviet skiing troops obviously did not know the existence of the German army.

Because only if you don’t know the existence of the German army, you will rush towards the German positions in the snow in this way.

German soldiers guessed right. Soviet skiing troops generally used battalion-level combat units, while Soviet battalion-level units generally did not have communication equipment such as radios and radios. (In the early days, the communication tools of ski battalions were only 3 signal guns and 9 ground-to-air communication signal boards, and radios were only equipped in the middle and late stages)

In fact, what is more important is that the Soviet skiing troops were formed shortly after they were formed.

The Soviet skiing troops were formed because they suffered losses in the Soviet-Finn War.

In November 1939, the Soviet Union launched a war against Finland under the pretext of the "Manila shelling" incident, hoping to include Finland under its territory.

These two countries are not the same heavyweight at all. At that time, Finland had only more than 30,000 regular troops across the country. After conducting a national mobilization, it was only after a total of 127,000 troops, fighter jets, bombers and reconnaissance aircraft, which had only more than 100.

Therefore, the Soviet Union once believed: "As long as we raise our voices a little, the Finns will obey. If it doesn't work, we can fire a shot and the Finns will raise their hands to surrender. That's what we think."

But the facts surprised everyone. During the more than four months of winter war, Finland blocked the fierce offensive of the Soviet army again and again, and finally suffered 370,000 casualties.

The Finnish skiing troops played a big role in this. They used their high-speed mobility to launch guerrilla warfare against the Soviet army, and used the method of fighting and running to make the Soviet army unbearable. (Note: Skiing troops in the snow are often faster and more flexible than mechanized troops)

Therefore, the Soviet army hurriedly formed its own skiing troops after the war, but these skiing troops did not conduct much organized training. Most of them were pieced together by drawing soldiers who could ski from each unit.

Obviously, the Soviet army used the mobility of the ski troops to pursue the German defeated troops.

However, these Soviet troops are handsome in outfits and skillful skiing movements, but being handsome does not mean that they can be invulnerable to swords and guns...

Seeing that the Soviet soldiers at the forefront were about to enter the German defense line, Slein gave the order and the German soldiers pulled the trigger at the Soviet army.

"Huahuahua" machine gun bullets swept down piles of Soviet troops who were completely unprepared, and the rifles accurately pointed famous among them. Occasionally, a few grenades were thrown, which made the Soviet skiers scream.

Some injured ski soldiers got up from the ground and wanted to escape back to the other side, but they were on skateboards and it was difficult for them to move quickly after stopping, especially they could not make tactical moves. So with a few "bangs", the low-lying river was covered with the bodies of Soviet soldiers, leaving only a few injured Soviet soldiers screaming in it, screaming at the other end of the Germans' ununderstood. One of them was obviously cursing the Germans, but after a gunshot, he could no longer scold.

Captain Vladimir was startled by this sudden blockade. He hurriedly ordered the follow-up skiing troops: "Stop moving forward and be ready for battle!"

The Soviet soldiers took off their skateboard as soon as possible, then ran up with a gun in their arms.

"Comrade Captain!" Ye Gorxi, a battalion-level political commissar, came up and asked, "What's the situation?"

"It may be the enemy's reinforcement!" Captain Vladimir held up his telescope and looked at the other side, saying: "They built a line of defense on the other side of the river, and it seemed that there were a lot of troops. I think we should stop and wait for the main force!"

Yegorshi raised his telescope and looked at the opposite side, then said, "No, this is not the enemy's reinforcements, look at them...their fortifications are very simple!"

"I see!" Captain Vladimir replied: "But they were very hidden. I saw the camouflage cloth on their helmets, which shows that they were well-equipped. They wiped out our two platoons in just two minutes before and after the battle, which shows that they were well-trained..."

"No, comrade Captain!" Yegorshi interrupted Captain Vladimir: "This is probably just an assumption they created. You think they are hiding well, that's because they don't have many people at all. They can destroy our two platoons because we are not prepared! Their purpose... is to make you think this way, do you understand? Let us think that the German reinforcements have arrived, and then we will stop and wait for the main force so that they can escape calmly!"

"Comrade Political Commissar..."

Captain Vladimir wanted to say something, but was soon interrupted by Yegorshi: "I order you to attack, Comrade Captain, we should not be scared by the way the enemy is showing off. Our mission is to catch up with the Germans as fast as possible, do you understand? And now the Germans are right in front of us, but you said you should wait for the main force!"

So Captain Vladimir had nothing to say, and he was unwilling to be charged with "cowardly and timid battle".

Then a scene that made the German army feel inexplicable happened...

After several minutes of preparation, the Soviet army roared and rushed towards the German defense line with a gun.

Such a defense war is much easier than that in North Africa.

On the one hand, the British and American troops will basically prepare for large-scale artillery fire before charging, and will also charge behind tanks. The Soviet troops' artillery fire preparations are to use several medium- and small-caliber mortars to enhance their courage, and there is no tank coordination in charge.

(Note: The Soviet ski battalion is generally not equipped with large caliber mortars, each company is equipped with 3 50MM mortars, and the mortar company is equipped with 2 82MM mortars)

On the other hand, it is because the snow and ice surface make it difficult for people to walk, at least the speed of charge cannot be too fast, and there are still constant trips and slips in the meantime, which can be said to be rushing towards the enemy all the way.
