Chapter 159

Shanghai Public Concession, the U.S. Embassy.

US Ambassador to China Nelson Jensen is having afternoon tea with Stilwell, a military officer to China. Jensen has served as US ambassador to China since 1929. It has been a full ten years since then, and it has almost become half a Chinese!

Stilwell couldn't get used to Chinese tea, so he tasted it, and asked the waiter to change the tea to coffee.

Jensen smiled and said, "Joseph, if you stay in China for a few more years, you will definitely fall in love with tea."

"I'll forget it." Stilwell shrugged and said, "I still prefer the taste of coffee."

Jensen took a sip of tea, leaned over and turned on the radio on the coffee table, and said, "Let's listen, will the Associated Press have any news today?"

"AP? Let's forget it." Stilwell shook his head, "Now the whole of America is dead."

"Joseph, you have to be patient," said Jansen. "I also support your point of view, that the U.S. government should provide military aid to the National Government, but it is not the time yet."

"When will it take?" Stilwell said, "What if China can't hold on to surrender?"

"It won't be so easy for China to announce its surrender. I know Chiang!" said Jansen, "He won't."

"Oh God, I have no confidence in peanuts." Stilwell shook his head, "He is a shameless politician. He is the most unconscionable politician who does things and can do anything!"

"Cheng may be a politician, but a politician with integrity!" said Jansen. "And his army is also an army that can fight. It is not that easy for the Japanese army to conquer China!"

While speaking, Jansen was just adjusting the frequency of the Central News Agency, and immediately a passionate voice sounded, and he spoke in English: "This is the Central News Agency of the Republic of China. Now we announce good news. Just this morning, my 367th Regiment launched an active offensive in western Shanghai and killed the commander of the 10th Japanese Army, Yanagawa Heisuke Yanagawa!"

"Oh Tfak?!" After hearing this news, Stilwell and Jansen were stunned.

It was not until the news was re-reported on the radio that Jansen and Stilwell finally came to their senses.

Stilwell breathed a sigh of relief and said sternly: "Yanagawa Heisuke was actually shot dead by the national army?!"

"It's really unimaginable how the Chinese did it?" said Jansen. "If I remember correctly, this should be the second senior general who died in the Japanese army after the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War, right?"

"Yes." Stilwell said, "The first senior Japanese general to die in battle is Tanisuo!"

After a pause, Stilwell said again: "And this Tanisuo was also done by the 367th National Army Regiment!"

Jansen said: "Joseph, now you should believe my judgment, right? China will not surrender so easily! It is very difficult for the Japanese army to conquer China!"

"Maybe." Stilwell nodded and said, "Although China has a bad leader, most of the senior generals at the top are idiots, the backbone generals of the national army, especially the grassroots officers and soldiers, are all good! In my impression, perhaps only the German army can compete with the national army!"

Jansen nodded and said, "This 367th Regiment is really amazing!"

"Yes." Stilwell said deeply, "First he defended the Kinshan Guards with half a battalion for two days and nights, then miraculously destroyed the 6th field heavy artillery brigade of the Japanese army, and then killed the division commander of the 6th Division, and now he even killed the commander of the 10th Army, Heisuke Yanagawa, in one fell swoop!"

Speaking of this, Stilwell paused and said, "Nelson, look at it. It won't take long. Zhong Yi and the 367th Regiment under his command will become a nightmare for the Japanese invading China!"

Jensen said in surprise: "Joseph, you seem to appreciate this Zhong Yi very much? Is it because he also graduated from West Point Military Academy and is your alumnus of Joseph?"

"Yes, I admire him very much." Stilwell nodded, "I also admit that the fact that Zhong Yi graduated from West Point Military Academy has greatly increased my liking for him. But the reason why I admire him so much is not because of this, but because of his superb command attainments in actual combat!"

Jansen said: "I don't know much about military affairs. Is this Zhong Yi very good at commanding?"

"Very very, very, very powerful!" Stilwell used three very special forces in a row and said, "At least so far, I have never seen anyone's tactical commander better than him."

"Is that so? This is a very high evaluation!"

"But I still feel the evaluation is a bit low!"

“Oh?!”

...

Almost at the same time, at the Central China Front Army Command.

The Central China Front Army Command borrowed the former Marine Corps Command, located on North Tibet Road.

Matsui Ishien is packing his personal belongings in the office because he is going to Kunshan soon!

Just as I was packing up my things, I suddenly heard a burst of noise coming from outside the window, and I walked to the window.

Matsui Ishigen's office is facing Beixi Tibet Road. You can see Waibaidu Bridge along Beixi Tibet Road, and even the public concession opposite Waibaidu Bridge!

Looking from a distance, you can see many people parading on the streets, shouting slogans.

Just as the Chief of Staff of the Central China Front Army, Tsukada Oku walked in, Matsui Ishien frowned and asked, "Tsukada Jun, what are these Chinese people doing?"

"It seems like a parade of Zhujie." Tsukada Otsuka said in a deep voice.

"Zhu Jie Parade?" Matsui Ishione said, "Because of Yanagawa Jun's death?"

After all, Heisuke Yanagawa failed to survive this level. Because of excessive blood loss and abdominal infection caused by urine, he also caused multiple organ failure and died of death. The death time was noon today!

"Hayi!" Tsukada Oku paused his head, "It can be seen that the morale of the Chinese people has increased even more!"

"Sodesnai." Matsui Ishigen nodded slightly and said, "All this is brought by that Zhong Yi!"

"Hayi!" Tsukada Oku paused his head again and said, "Your Highness General, Hu Zi has a kind of intuition. If Zhong Yi cannot be eradicated as soon as possible, he will sooner or later become a confidant of the empire!"

Matsui Ishione said: "But Zhong Yi's 367th Regiment is in the jurisdiction of the 10th Army after all!"

Tsukada Oku said again: "Your Highness General can give His Highness Hirohiko a reminder, asking him to send a gang or even a brigade to chase Zhong Yi's 367th Regiment!"

"Reminder?" Matsui Ishien shook his head and said, "I'm afraid it's counterproductive!"
