Chapter 34 The Jews

Donald sent Ah Fa to the door and said in a low voice: "I said, Mr. Chen, can you give me some advice on how to deal with Chinese people? Not to you, but to Mr. Qin, a more traditional Chinese person."

Ah Fa pondered for a moment and said vaguely: "Mr. Qin speaks good English."

"I mean etiquette, Chinese etiquette." Donald blinked nervously.

"Oh, this," Ah Fa couldn't say it at once, and paused for a moment and said, "They pay more attention to etiquette and started to deal with it more restrainedly. And..."

Donald nodded thoughtfully, his eyes flashing behind the lenses, looking like he was not understanding.

Afa said goodbye and walked through the hotel lobby, but someone grabbed him.

"Ha, my friend, it's such a coincidence." Neumann grabbed Ah Fa's arm, and his eyes were filled with passion, "Mr. Fa, right?"

Afa looked at the little Jewish man, frowned in disgust and said, "My surname is Chen."

"Yes, it's Mr. Chen." Neumann was not ashamed of calling the wrong name at all, and was still enthusiastic and talkative. "It's a pleasant thing to have some wine together and we can chat."

"I can't be with you." Ah Fa refused lightly.

Neumann looked at Ah Fa blankly, and an angry flame suddenly shot out of his eyes, making a sharp voice, "What's wrong? You don't like talking to me, because I'm a Jew? Do you even look down on me?"

"What?" Ah Fa was stunned by the sudden change.

"Because I am a Jew, you discriminate against me, right?" Neumann's skin turned red.

"You're wrong!" Ah Fa shook his head for some reason, "I don't have time, that's it."

"You are thinking, he is a Jew, he is only interested in money, right?" Neumann continued to shout, as if Ah Fa had not spoken his heart, and the flames in his eyes became even more intense.

"Not that"

"Yes, in Russia, I am a teacher, in Aodesa, not for money, but because I love learning." Neumann grabbed Afa's arm and shook it hard, forcing him to pay attention, "The Cossacks killed my father, and I escaped to Shanghai alone. Yes, I am now focused on making money, because money is the guarantee, and this is my motivation. Money is our guarantee, sir..."

"My surname is Chen, my surname is Chen."

"Mr. Chen, money means security and power. We are still short of money now. This is why Jews want to make money. It is not greed, but for safety." Neumann nodded vigorously, "There is only one kind of safety for Jews: to be rich. I have learned a lesson, Mr. Fa."

"My surname is Chen." Ah Fa repeated weakly.

"Mr. Chen, I have learned a lesson. So, I don't feel ashamed to say it. I'm making money, no one can hurt me anymore, I feel safe. You don't need this at all, you don't have the right to look down on me. I tell you, I'd rather be a teacher."

"It's great to be a teacher. I used to want to be a teacher." Ah Fa said casually.

"What, be a teacher?" Neumann's anger faded like a flood, and a surprised expression appeared on his face. "If that is the case, you should not have any prejudice against the Jews. But in Russia, they think we are all bad people, devils, liars, robbers, murderers." He wrinkled his nose in disgust and cursed: "Brutal Russians! They have not yet jumped out of Shakespeare's time, backward, and ignorant."

…………

"For the living, the Jews are dead; for the locals, the Jews are dissidents and wanderers; for the bourgeoisie, they are beggars; for the poor, they are exploiters and millionaires; for patriots, they are people without a motherland; for people of all strata in society, they are abominable competitors."

Leopinsk

On March 1, 1881, with a roar, Tsar Alexander II fell under the bomb of the revolutionaries. With a Jewish woman among the suspects, the door to hell against the Russian Jews was opened within weeks, and an anti-Semitic storm swept across the Russian land.

Ah Fa didn't know about this history. He nodded perfunctorily. Many people in the hall looked here. He was defeated by this guy. He smiled bitterly and said, "How about drinking? You just said you want to invite me to drink?"

"Yes, drink, I'll treat you to drink." A childish smile appeared on Neuman's face, and he happily pulled Ah Fa to a table in the familiar corner.

It seems that Neumann is a regular visitor here. Before he could greet him, he brought vodka. After drinking, Neumann became more talkative and more excited. His expression was rich, and his slightly gray-yellow face was radiant due to excitement and pride.

"My friend, I made two thousand dollars today." Neumann described his success in a complacent tone, "I made two thousand dollars a day!"

Ah Fa pretended to be envious and listened. He was not unfamiliar with business and speculation, but in this era, he was still a little confused about the way. He might learn something with the Jews who were famous for doing business.

Neumann took two or three cups in a blink of an eye. He kept pulling Ah Fa to drink with him, but Ah Fa just sucked it gently.

He talked about the Zionist movement incessantly, "Look, we Jews must have a national hometown, which is why we work to make money. We must build our own national hometown in places without the threat of Cossacks." Neumann asked Afa: "Have you read the magazines we run in Shanghai? It is the "Israel Messenger". I believe you will like to read it. There are many interesting articles on it, not only Jews, but everyone is suitable for reading it. It is the mouthpiece of the Zionist movement in Shanghai."

"Is it in English?" Afa asked with concern.

"Of course."

"Then where will you build your own nation's hometown? I don't think it's realistic to buy land with money. Money is not omnipotent, nor is it a guarantee. From my perspective, I don't agree with your or your views." Afa asked solemnly.
