Chapter 132 Assassination Deterrence

Assassination is a path, and although it is not a means of success in the revolution, it is still an auxiliary measure.

Two consecutive Guangzhou generals were assassinated, and the Revival Association announced their responsibility for this, claiming that Chen Sheng, the first master in the association, led the killer team to start a new round of punishment and evil actions. Qing officials who dared to obstruct the Revival Association's revolutionary plan will be the target of the focus of the future.

It is always a characteristic of the Revival Society. On the day Jing Li was stabbed, many yamen in Guangzhou received exquisitely packaged gift boxes with the words "Someone worship, somebody worship", who would have thought that these were bombs that cost human life?

The naval yard was bombed, the governor's yamen was bombed, the patrol coach's yamen was bombed, and the police station was bombed... Because this round of bomb attacks was the first time, the people in the government yamen were all unprepared and the success rate was extremely high. Unpacking, lifting the cover, smoking, and explosion was so simple, and so unexpected.

The Governor's Office was bombed, and the guards' manager Jin Zhenbang was killed; the police station was bombed, and the director was killed; the patrol coach's office was bombed, and several officials were either killed or injured; the gatehouse of the Navy Station was bombed, and many guards were killed and injured...

Just when the Guangzhou government was in panic, officials of all sizes were panic, and the whole city was in panic, the killer team had retreated to Hong Kong, and half of the personnel went to Nanyang to protect the safety of the revolutionary Song Fuhua; half of the personnel were waiting for the order.

The clever attack, powerful bombs, astonishing success rate, and the murderous declaration of the Revival Society immediately disrupted the plan to kill the "bandits" in Qiongzhou that the Guangdong government was planning to kill the "bandits" in Qiongzhou. Three of the five patrol battalions of the Central Ruins Station, which were originally scheduled to be mobilized to Qiongzhou, were transferred to the inside and outside of Guangzhou City. Strengthen the security and protect the safety of all officials in the city.

Li Zhun's four-sided attack plan was also unfavorable. The stronghold on the West Road was attacked by the Revolutionary Army. Three patrol battalions were defeated and dispersed. A large number of materials were seized by the Revolutionary Army. The net was not woven and the hole had been broken, but the fish became more powerful.

Furthermore, the wave of assassination at the Revival Society also made Li Jun wonder. Bombs and cold guns, carefully planned and professional in action. It is hard to defend! Moreover, if you really have a grudge with Revival Society, who can survive the continuous assassination, you may end up in a place where you will die without a burial.

Li Jun was scared and began to pay attention to the news about the Revival Society and study the situation of the Revival Society.

"From now on, we will have no peace." Li Zhun only made his own general judgment, but expressed his general mentality that this terrifying act caused to high officials of the Qing Dynasty.

This is not Li Zhun's blind fear, but the conclusion he came to after analyzing the assassination incident in recent years. Wu Yue assassinated five ministers abroad to investigate, Wang Han assassinated Tie Liang, and Shi Jian assassinated Guangdong Governor Deshou assassinated. This was certainly a sensational event, but the result was obviously not as successful as the plan. His courage is commendable and his skills are not familiar. Reckless and bad things may be shocked at the battle. This is Li Zhun's conclusion.

On the other hand, the several assassinations of the Revival Society started with Tie Liang. Chengxun and Jing Li, two Guangzhou generals, and the few victims with a low reputation and low official positions, not only had a very high success rate, but also retreated unsuccessfully. From planning to implementation, from bombs to sniping, they all showed strong professional qualities and ruthless style. If combined with the revolutionaries' spiritual will to be ready to die and kill themselves in the assassination, it would be terrible in Li Zhun's eyes.

What should I do? Li Zhun does not want to be the target of the Revival Association, and the continuous assassination is terrifying. No one has the psychological endurance to defend against thieves for a thousand days. However, Qiongzhou is now in Guangdong, and suppressing the uprising is his duty. Although the three patrol battalions are temporarily unable to increase their troops in Qiongzhou because of strengthening the public security in Guangzhou and protecting many officials, the situation in Qiongzhou must not deteriorate further, and there will always be the day when he sends troops to fight and makes grudges in the Revival Association?

"Sir" the captain of the guard knocked in and interrupted Li Jun's pace of wandering indoors. The captain of the guard was a little hesitant, holding a letter in his hand, as if he was about to hand it to Li Jun, but hesitated.

"What's the matter?" Li Jun frowned and moved his eyes to the captain of the guard.

"The gatekeeper received a letter to the adults," the captain of the guard paused for a moment, and said stutteringly: "I dare not read this letter, but there is another foreign object in the envelope..."

"Foreign object?" Li Jun frowned even more and said in confusion: "The envelope is so small, if it is a bomb, I wouldn't believe it no matter what."

"Not a bomb." The captain of the guard smiled bitterly, pinched the foreign object in the letter with his hands, and said, "I think it should be a bullet."

Li Jun was moved. Is Fuxing going to attack him? Wait, there seems to be room for room for warning and intimidation? If it is really a book by Fuxing, let’s read it first and see what the Fuxing coming will be, and then make plans!

After thinking, Li Jun asked the captain of the guard to open the envelope and indeed a bullet was poured out. Li Jun shook his head gently, reached out to take the letter and unfolded it

It was indeed a threatening letter sent by the Revival Society, warning Li Zhun not to work hard for the Qing Dynasty, the extremely powerful regime, to continue to suppress the Qiongzhou Revolutionary Army and be a good slave who has been infamous for thousands of years. Otherwise, the Revival Society would serve bombs and bullets, and would never be merciless and never die.

Li Jun's face changed, and he was surprised and angry. The letter not only had stern words, but also had detailed information about his family at the back. Even his son Li Guoqing, who was sent to the United States to study, was listed, and he marked with red lines.

Bottom line and principle are the creed that Chen Wenqiang has always adhered to. Is the initiator who has no descendants? If you use any means, the enemy will do everything he can to deal with you. Whoever has no family members, who has no relatives and friends, in order not to implicate them, the bottom line set by Chen Wenqiang is to not implicate and not attack his family.

Although assassination is an abnormal revolutionary method and a terrorism, its purpose is not to cause direct victims, but to influence more people. It either inspires the people's hearts and gives people the impression that "one class opposes another class" or "everyone opposes all people", that is, it transforms into a war between the people against the Qing rulers; or through public opinion propaganda, assassination becomes a "tool of psychological influence."

Of course, Li Zhun didn't know the bottom line and principles of the assassination of Fuxing. The warning letter did not explain it, nor did it explain to attack his family. However, the attached list and information gave him this feeling. That is, the Fuxing Society has listed him and his family as the target of assassination, without any scruples, ruthlessness and ruthlessness.

In the feudal society at that time, it was still very common to implicate it. Li Zhun did not doubt this, nor did he dare to hope that the revolutionary party would open his family to his hatred. Therefore, based on his own thinking and judgment, this warning letter could be said to have given him a heavy blow.

If he can not consider his own safety for the time being, then the real threat to his family is a serious problem that he cannot ignore and must face.

"Sir" The captain of the guard saw that Li Jun's face changed and said for a long time without saying a word. When Li Jun looked up at him, he tentatively said: "The rebellious party is doing the affairs of Jing Nie, and is not afraid of death. You must worry about it."

Li Zhun sighed and said slowly: "It's worth it. However, we are the officials of the court and suppressing bandits and quelling the rebellion is a matter of duty. How can we not make enemies with the rebellion? If we indulge in the condolences, the court will also punish them. This is a dilemma. What if it does?"

The captain of the guard thought for a while and suggested tactfully: "Sir, do you still remember the trip to Yazhou. Lord Chen can spend money to buy peace and keep the industry from losses, are you?"

Li Zhun fell into deep thought, waved his hand powerlessly for a while, and said, "This matter is absolutely not feasible. Lord Chen is both an official and a businessman, but merchants account for most of them. But I am responsible. How can I connect with the rioters? Well, you should step down. Let me think carefully and think carefully."

In fact, it’s not that Li Jun didn’t have this idea, but that he didn’t want to admit it rashly in front of the guard captain. After all, people’s hearts are separated from their stomachs, and the charge of the bandit is very serious. He must be cautious and come up with a safe and confidential way.

…………………

The same assassination, but there are differences.

The actions of the Revival Society have profound meanings, intimidating Guangdong officials, disrupting their plans to suppress the chaos, and supporting the Qiongzhou Revolutionary Army from the side. At the same time, it also creates psychological shadows among the officials and provides convenient conditions for future work.

Although Wu Yue's plan to assassinate the five foreign ministers was sensational and brave, the mainstream newspapers and publicists at that time did not have a high evaluation of the assassination. On the contrary, most of them believed that the five ministers went abroad to inspect were preparations for constitutionalism and were related to the future and destiny of the country and the nation. Anyone with a little patriotism should be solemnly condemned to their actions, so they generally condemned Wu Yue's assassination and terrorist activities.

Not only that, public opinion was also deeply afraid that the bomb incident would affect ministers' overseas inspections, and in turn affected the implementation of constitutionalism. So they wrote articles in newspapers to urge the Qing court to move forward bravely without fear of difficulties. Most of the people expressed sympathy for the bombing of ministers' overseas inspections, and they sent messages of condolences, such as Fudan, Nanyang and other 32 schools in Shanghai jointly sent messages of condolences.

This is the difference between inside and outside the system. Different perspectives of looking at problems, and the conclusions drawn are naturally different. In that era of great transformation, it was naturally common.

The court hopes to maintain the current situation of monarchy supremacy; the majority of public opinion (to be precise, scholarly intention) have become more inclined to establish a constitution, requiring restrictions on monarchy and creating a responsible government; and the "bargaining" method that forces the court to accept public opinion is the old saying of revolution and assassination, "reform must be too correct", and the so-called "reform is forced" by today's people.

The revolutionaries were keen on assassinating reformist officials within the system, and their purpose was to destroy all remedial measures that could extend the Qing Dynasty's rule; they hoped to use this method to make the revolution come soon and make the revolution "premature birth". To put it bluntly, they believed that no matter whether the new policies introduced by the Qing court were good or bad, whether the Qing court's reforms were beneficial to the people or the country, and even the better the policies, the more obstructed and opposed them, so as not to win the hearts of the people and make the revolution more difficult.

Zhang Taiyan once said fiercely: "I hope that there are many people in Manchus, Jie and Zhou, but they do not want to see Yao and Shun. If there are saints in Manchuria, it is difficult to revolution." It can be said that it revealed the mentality of the revolutionaries at that time. Therefore, the more they advocated the new policy, the more they improved the Qing court officials would become the target of their assassination.

Obviously, from the perspective of later generations, these revolutionaries defined the revolution too narrowly and remained at the stage of placing the whole world and killing the whole world. If we look at it in the long run, the various reforms made by the reform officials of the Qing court (school development, training, patrol police, and industry) were beneficial to the country and the nation.

Even so, the selection of a large number of students to study abroad, relax the restraint of speech, and establish provincial advisory bureaus, and the training of new troops in each province were all cultivating overthrowers and opponents of the corrupt system. The Qing court did not know it, and the revolutionary parties did not realize it.

This is the misunderstanding of most revolutionaries: if the revolution is prosperous, reform will decline, and vice versa; but the truth is: every time the revolution rises, reform will also rise, and vice versa. Because every act of the revolutionary party is the driving force for the reformists to promote reform within the system, and the basis for the rising momentum of the constitutionalists.

The assassination of the Revival Society was controlled by Chen Wenqiang, so he was relatively calm, rational, and his target was mostly stubborn, *, vicious Manchu chiefs and evil officials, and guys who had hindered the actions of the Revival Society. In fact, this did not require much advanced theory for Chen Wenqiang. As long as he knew that the Qing Dynasty would perish, it was enough.

Because the talents trained under the reform and new policies must have new ideas, and will inevitably be unacceptable under the old system, and will become dissatisfied and become potential destroyers. Once the time comes, it will not be unexpected for them to turn to the revolution.

At the same time, Chen Wenqiang had long realized how easy and convenient it is to lurk in the system to carry out revolution. He had the right to speak for the constitutionalists, and the purpose was to morally deny the revolutionary party; treat the constitutionalists with good manners, that is, the reformists within the system, which is also the consistent policy of the court. From economy, politics, to military (commerce groups, militia groups), the constitutionalists are legally strengthening their power.

This led to a strange phenomenon. Judging from the political propositions of the constitutionalists, it is not much different from those of the revolutionary party. They all require the Aisin Gioro Royal Family to unconditionally sell equity and make a strong country. However, constitutionalists are within the system and revolutionaries are outside the system. Although there is no essential difference in everyone's political propositions, constitutionalists do the work of revolutionaries, which belongs to the category of national constitution and are allowed by the court; while revolutionaries do the work of constitutionalists, but they belong to the party and are beheaded.

By comparing the two, Chen Wenqiang was naturally willing to do revolutionary work as a constitutionalist, do it openly, without any obstacles, and do it well.

"Just just implement constitutionalization quickly, the tide will naturally subside. Most of the available materials among foreign students should be hired out of order. As for Sun Yat-sen, he has no courage and bluffing his voice on weekdays, all of which are disturbed by his ministers and workers. Please give your grace and amnesty, and you are not allowed to be implicated at will. In the future, local troubles must be made, and the civil unrest and bandit chaos must not be reported by the revolutionary party."

"I don't know what to do when I go abroad. I'll ask what I can do if I can't speak. I'll pass by in a hurry. But what is the use of copying many constitutional books in the future and being squandered, and it's too much money? Now it's time to make a constitution, but it's not too long, so I'm afraid that the revolutionary party will be more ill. Now the Japan-France Agreement and the Japan-Russia Agreement are very dangerous. All countries regard whether China can implement constitutionalism and establish policies. I think this is the case if the constitution is established quickly."

As a rookie of the constitutionalist, Chen Wenqiang began to speak loudly in the newspaper, exposing Jun Xian's "face". Next, there were Zhang Jian, the constitutionalist leader of Jiangsu Province, Tang Hualong, the constitutionalist leader of Hubei Province, and Tan Yankai, the constitutionalist leader of Hunan, shaking flags and cheering, thus gradually forming the first constitutional petition movement.
