Chapter 61 Mission

The Qing Dynasty was the most active period for my country to immigrate overseas. After the 19th century, there were about 20 million overseas Chinese, and Chinese made a living around the world, most of whom lived in the United States and Canada in Southeast Asia, Australia and North America.

When Chinese people, when they first go abroad to foreign land, they often rely on the help of three organizations: one is the clan association, the second is the fellow countrymen association, and the third is the Hongmen organization. Joining the clan association must belong to the same clan. If they join the fellow countrymen association, they must belong to the same clan. Only by joining the Hongmen organization does not have these restrictions. Therefore, the Hongmen often becomes the most extensive mass organization that unites overseas Chinese everywhere and is the Chinese.

By the end of the Qing Dynasty, "every place where overseas Chinese went, there were the establishment of Yixing Club (which referred to as the Hongmen Association), with millions of members." This number may be exaggerated, but it shows that the Hongmen did have powerful forces in the local area.

As an overseas Chinese and a secret group among overseas Chinese, the Overseas Hongmen has many different characteristics from the domestic Hongmen because they live in a foreign country.

First of all, political awareness has faded, and its mutual assistance and anti-violence function has become more prominent. Domestic associations often conflict with officials, so they still do not forget that they have an opposition to the Qing government; overseas associations are mostly under other governments, and their need to form associations is just to contact each other for the sake of brothers and feet.

Secondly, overseas Hongmen is generally a legal or semi-legal organization in the local area. Because the members of overseas Hongmen are far away from their motherland, have fewer relations with various political forces in China, and are rarely involved in the political struggles of the residence countries. They are basically mutually aid groups formed by overseas Chinese and Chinese to fight for the right to survive. Therefore, some Hongmen organizations have become legal or semi-legal associations early on. For example, Hongmen Zhigongtang in North America was registered with the local government in the name of Chinese Freemasonry, and the local government is also treated as a private welfare group. Before taking office as president of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt served as legal counsel for Hongmen Anliangtang for ten years.

Third, the Hongmen (Tiandihui, Gelaohui) in China was still dominated by the lower class until the late Qing Dynasty, and the powerful people among the lower class served as the leader. The Hongmen overseas occupied the leadership position with merchants and other proletarians. The secret associations, fellow towns and fellow industry associations, first reflect the interests of overseas Chinese and proletarians.

Therefore, the leaders of the Hongmen Tiandi Association organizations overseas often serve as the heads of various geographic organizations of overseas Chinese and Chinese (members’ associations, etc.), blood organizations (cross associations, etc.), guilds and various associations. Many mine owners, planters, and "leaders" of large companies are themselves important leaders or important members of a certain organization in the association.

For example, Ye Yalai in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Chen Kaishun, who runs Johor, and Zheng Jinggui, Chen Yayan and others who open up Perak tin mines; in North America, Mr. Situ Meitang is not only a famous overseas Chinese leader in the United States, but also the main person in charge of the United States Zhigongtang and Anliangtang.

Although Master Xu Zhuang said it quite imposingly, the loss of political meaning of the overseas Hongmen is self-evident. Almost no one mentioned the slogan of anti-Qing and restoring the Ming Dynasty.

But this is not unchangeable, because the fate of overseas Chinese and Chinese living under Western colonial rule is extremely tragic. They are not only oppressed by colonial rule, but also inhumanely exploited and exploited by their employers, but also discriminated and insulted by racists, as well as excluded and looted by local white workers or indigenous people.

What is even more tragic is that their various experiences are not only unable to obtain the protection of their own governments, but are even regarded as "rebellion" by the Qing rulers. Once they go abroad, they are not allowed to return, otherwise they will be punished. Because of this, once overseas Chinese and overseas Chinese start, they will actively support the revolutionary struggle of the people in the country in order to obtain the protection of new governments.

"Give them hope and let them know that a strong mother country is their guarantee and support." Chen Fan summarized this, "The same is true for the tasks assigned by our headquarters. Moreover, the conclusion of our headquarters is that armed riots still require the strong assistance of overseas Chinese and Chinese. Whether it is raising funds and donations or recruiting soldiers, our headquarters is more optimistic about the power of overseas Hongmen. For domestic associations, our headquarters seems to have concerns and controversies in its use."

"The main thing is the gap and limitations of the education they receive." Zou Rong said: "Although the domestic congregation party has a strong sense of resistance to the government, the habits and feudal consciousness of the world are very strong, and I don't know what a democratic republic is?"

"The people in the Honghui Association still overthrew the Qing Dynasty and attacked the Han Emperor Gaozu, Ming Emperor Taizu, and Hong Tianwang, and had the heart to take charge of the emperor." Chen Tianhua nodded in agreement, "They did not know the truth of the republic. In the future, the heroes competed for each other and killed each other, causing great harm. If nationalism is not guided by various parties, I think it is not worthy of it."

"Our department has its own considerations, so we obey it." Chen Fan pondered for a moment and said, "There is another thing that Mr. Chen Wenqiang is about to travel to Nanyang and raise funds to start an industry. The department requires us to carry out publicity and build momentum for him in public opinion."

"Mr. Chen Wenqiang is the pride of Chinese in invention and creation, but he does not seem to be a member of our association, right?" Qin Yuliu asked in confusion: "Is it because the headquarters is trying to win him into the association?"

"Do you have to fight for it? This work is not up to us?" Zou Rong could not violate the confidentiality regulations, so he made an excuse, "Even if he does not join the association, as long as it is beneficial to the development of the association, it is necessary to promote and create momentum."

"That's true." Chen Tianhua nodded and said: "The exclusive sales of medicines are indeed an important source of funds for us. Besides, education saves the country, industry saves the country, and technology saves the country. Whether it is correct or not, he always has the intention to save the country."

"Since that's the case, let's hurry up and start each of you!" Chen Fan nodded and said, "The reunion is so short that we will go our separate ways in the past two days. I don't know when will we meet again?"

"Everything is for the revolution, the shortness of the present is for the longevity of the future." Chen Xiefen said: "As a revolutionary group, although the Xingzhonghui was early, it would not be as fast as our revival, right?"

"It's true." Zou Rong agreed: "My comrades first have a firm foothold, and then they will fight against the royalists, completely eliminate the demonic atmosphere, expose the faces of Kang Liang and others who are willing to be slaves, and make the overseas Chinese who are wrongly listened and believed will be lost."
