Chapter 1487: History is always surprisingly similar again

Simon was dressed neatly and then went to the restaurant downstairs. Chen Qing was already here, and Cheng Tae-hee was also there.

Seeing Simon enter the door and the two girls greeted each other, Cheng Tae-hee subconsciously stood up, with a sense of restraint that she had not seen for a long time, and last night, well, she was not alone, but was pulled to warm the bed by an unscrupulous girl. In short, it was quite regretful.

Simon and Sung Tae-hee hugged each other, patted the woman's shoulder and signaled to sit together. She sat down next to her casually, and asked with a smile: "What are you talking about?"

Chen Qing glanced at the entrance of the restaurant, and no one followed him in. She was curious about the one her boss brought back last night, but she didn't ask too much, but said, "It's just about "The Life and Death Spy Transformation."

Simon noticed Chen Qing's gaze and did not explain.

The eldest princess is a very proud and reserved girl. She originally wanted to have breakfast with Simon, but later she heard that there were many women here, so she stayed up and didn't get out of bed, intending to sneak away when there were fewer people here.

Weiwei turned sideways and asked Jin Sumin to put on her breakfast. Simon picked up the tableware and said, "Is it still a loss in the theater chain this time?"

Chen Qing nodded: "According to 8 million viewers, the box office is expected to be 28 billion won. The share we can get is still 37%, and this part of the income is about 10.3 billion won. In addition, according to the support plan officially established by the Film Revitalization Committee in South Korea in January, we can get a follow-up subsidy of 10% of the production cost. The production cost of "Life and Death Transformation" is 13 billion won, and the subsidy amount can be 1.3 billion won. In fact, there is still a gap of 1.4 billion won in the theater stage, which is not counting the publicity and development expenses of about 3 billion won."

Simon just listened, but there was no disappointment.

It was still under the quiet promotion of the Westeros system that South Korea officially established a special "Korean Film Revitalization Committee" in January this year and launched a considerable film support plan.

Simply put, according to different categories such as the size of the film's budget, theme type, funding source, etc., the producer can receive subsidies ranging from 10% to 50%.

Of course, the highest 50% subsidy is limited to newcomers and new works within 1 billion won budget. For other low-cost experimental movies, literary and artistic movies can only get about 30%, while large-budget films with a cost of more than 3 billion won and joint venture films such as "The Life and Death Transformation" can only get a 10% budget subsidy if they meet the conditions of Korean team and Korean shooting.

The initially conceived consumption tax refund failed, but this support plan is obviously stronger than just refunding the 10% consumption tax. After all, film companies controlled by the Westeros system in South Korea are currently mainly produced low-cost films with a price of less than 3 billion won.

Let’s talk about “Life and Death Transformation”. Although the theaters are losing money at the stage, with the current popularity of this movie, it is easy to recover all costs and achieve profitability with the subsequent release.

In fact, it is not impossible for the Westeros system to recover costs in the local theater stage.

It is enough to divide the local theaters into 10 points through negotiations.

This is not done here because 70% of Korean cinemas are currently controlled by the Westeros system and are further expanding their share. If "The Life and Death Transformation" breaks the rules and requires an increase in share, will other films behave in the same way and require an increase in share together? Then the loss will be the Westeros system itself, which is not worth the loss.

Therefore, of course, it is best to maintain the status quo.

In addition to local theaters, first of all, overseas. With the halo of breaking the record of Korean moviegoers, "The Spy Change" has recently been released simultaneously overseas. It can be sold more or less in Southeast Asia, North America and Europe. It can basically achieve balance of income and expenditure in the entire project.

The second is peripheral channels, which is equivalent to entering a profit cycle.

There is a very important point. South Korea does not have the strict window period system as in North America. This can be imagined from the fact that Korean versions of high-definition can often appear on the Internet in advance. In SK's plan, the video can be quickly promoted to the video tape market one month after the film is removed, and TV broadcasting can also be launched in three months.

According to calculations, the revenue of "The Life and Death Transformation" in Korean videotape/DVD and TV broadcasting will not be lower than that of theaters, and the promotion and distribution costs of these channels are very low. Therefore, this movie can achieve at least 100% net profit in the operating cycle in the next year.

This is the ultimate commercial potential of an annual championship-level film.

However, SK Entertainment will of course vigorously promote the gimmick of "The Life and Death Transformation" that the box office is not as good as the investment, so as to attract more people to buy tickets, but if a movie that is expected to lock in the annual box office championship is not profitable, that is a joke.

What's more, the real meaning of "The Spy Change" does not lie in the box office itself, but in the activation of the Korean local film market, driving more potential audiences who have no movie-watching habits to enter the theater.

Having said that, this is exactly the same as the changes in movie viewing habits brought to the Chinese public by a series of films that China continued to create box office miracles after 2015.

After several super-selling films, as soon as the New Year was approaching, influenced by people around, more and more Chinese publics began to develop the habit of bringing their families to the theater to watch movies.

Actually, there are more interesting coincidences behind these two things.

For example, the film industry in China and South Korea exploded after the per capita GDP exceeded US$10,000.

At the same time, it was all after experiencing a large-scale economic turmoil.

In 2015, many publics seemed to have no feelings, and even the householders were ecstatic because housing prices doubled in the short term. But in fact, it was a real injury to the heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys.

In addition, there is fertility rate, and the slippage curve is actually surprisingly consistent.

From 1997 to 2001, the fertility rate in South Korea fell from 1.6 to 1.3, while from 2015 to 2020, China fell by one year, but the fertility rate was also 1.6 to 1.3.

Let me say one more thing: after the South Korean 1997 crisis, social competition intensified, and while the fertility rate was cliff, Korean families' investment in their children's education also increased sharply, and the off-campus education training industry flourished.

The South Korean government also saw the harm and once took heavy measures to suppress it.

Unfortunately, it was only a brief suppression and soon ended in failure. Even when the country's educational resources could not meet the public's needs, a large number of "geese families" appeared in South Korea. Simply put, Korean families were sent to study abroad since their children were very young in order to receive the best quality education, while parents worked hard to make money and support in China. Parents and children could only meet once or twice a year like geese.

Later, there was a TV series in South Korea called "The Top Floor". Not to mention the extremely bloody plot, several families in different classes had the only common point in that they almost achieved perverted obsession with their children pursuing better educational resources, and it didn't matter if they killed and set fire to them.

That is actually an abbreviation for the real social education situation in South Korea.

History is a circle, constantly moving around.

As for whether China will become another South Korea that is even flattering than Japan?

Obviously some people hope this is the case. Just like a wealthy e-commerce tycoon, he once said in a public interview that his company hopes to become a "national enterprise", similar to Apple in the United States or Samsung in South Korea. Apple is just large enough, and it is hard to say whether it is a "national enterprise". Samsung that penetrates all aspects of South Korea must be.

In addition, I also publicly complained that I was busier than the president but did not have the power of the president.

If you think about it carefully, do you feel wrong?

In short, if South Korea is a pickup truck, China is a super heavy truck with a ten-fold steering difficulty, and there is also a group of people who want to grab the steering wheel openly and secretly, but the result is unpredictable.

It has been accomplished for thousands of years.

It's just another helpless cycle under the strong historical inertia.

Of course, the cycle comes at a price.
