Chapter 24 The Story of a Woman

Chapter 24: The Story of a Woman

Back at the side of the car, Ye Zhiqiu took a bottle of alcohol from Carlos's hand and poured it on his hand for a simple washing. With the help of the two soldiers, Chris collected some materials from the commercial storefront next to the street and made a simple stretcher. Generally speaking, people with spinal injuries cannot move at will, but under the current situation, the situation of this person can no longer get worse, so naturally there are many fewer concerns.

Ye Zhiqiu took a bottle of water and a piece of chocolate and walked back and handed it to the woman. At this time, the woman lay quietly on the ground without moving. When she saw the things in his hand, a smile appeared on her ugly face. She looked at Ye Zhiqiu and said word by word: "I'm going to die."

"Maybe not." Ye Zhiqiu comforted: "It's okay to survive this period."

"No." The woman seemed to be very uncomfortable with talking. Her lips trembled for a long time before she spoke again: "I have been on for too long." She looked at Ye Zhiqiu and said calmly: "I should have died long ago."

Chris and two soldiers came over with the stretcher they had just made. He heard the woman's words, lowered his head and looked at her carefully, and said in confusion: "Why haven't I seen you before? Why did you appear here?"

The woman looked at him, raised an arm with difficulty and pointed upwards. Carlos, who had been standing next to her, shouted, "Did you jump into the car in the morning?"

The woman showed an encouraging smile, which made her expression look strange. She said hoarsely: "When the disaster happened, some people and I were trapped in this hotel. The elevator stopped and there were zombies everywhere. We couldn't go downstairs." Speaking of this, she remembered the horror of those days and her body trembled involuntarily. Ye Zhiqiu hugged her gently, waiting for her to calm herself down.

After a while, the woman continued, "We thought of many ways but failed. They knew we were there and we were their prey. Later, the remaining people decided to use the lottery to select people to attract the attention of the zombies, and the others took the opportunity to rush out. This method was successful. We used this method to go down to the sixth floor, but the people were almost dead, and no one was willing to draw lots. Joseph was scratched by the zombies. We knew that he would not live long, either died or turned into a zombie, so he tied him up, and later he died."

Everyone was silent. Listening to her telling her experience, Ye Zhiqiu found that she became more and more fluent in her speech, and her expression gradually became excited. She looked at Carlos worriedly, and Carlos shook his head at him. It was obvious that women had not much time left, and this was just a brief rebirth. The best choice now is to let her finish what she wanted to say.

Taking advantage of the woman's chance to breathe, Ye Zhiqiu fed her a little water, and then heard the woman say, "At that time, we had no food, no water, and everyone was desperate. Through a door, the zombies were guarding outside, and the door was broken into a gap by them, but we held it with our wardrobe. Sarah died outside the door and we locked her outside. They were there to eat her body, and the sound sounded so clear."

"Later, I couldn't bear it and fell asleep. I don't know how long I had slept, but a sound came from beside me, exactly the same as the sound of a zombie eating the corpse. I was scared to death, and then I saw that it was Clark, who was eating Joseph's arm and eating it raw."

"He was infected, too?" Chris asked.

"No." The woman shook her head slowly: "He was just too hungry to bear it, so she just learned from the zombies." She laughed: "Later we ate Joseph. Anyway, he was dead. If we didn't eat it, we would be eaten by the zombies. In essence, there was no difference."

"What then?" Ye Zhiqiu and Carlos looked at each other, and Ye Zhiqiu said, "Joseph has been infected."

"That's right." The woman said: "When we think of this, everyone starts to have a fever. Without medicine or water, we can only wait for death." Her eyes began to become confused. Even though she knew she was about to die, she still felt trembling when she remembered the experiences during that period.

"But you are not dead." Ye Zhiqiu said, and he keenly felt that something terrible happened to the woman.

"That's right." The woman whispered: "I've been able to hold on, so I said, I've been holding on for too long."

"How did you survive?" Ye Zhiqiu asked: "This is very important to humans."

"I don't know." The woman shook her head slowly: "My companions are all dead, I am the only one who survives. I don't even know what's going on with me."

Ye Zhiqiu looked at Carlos. Carlos looked shocked and his eyes were scattered. He obviously didn't know where he had gone. He couldn't help but feel a little regretful. Unfortunately, Nicole was not here, and he couldn't send this woman to Nicole. This person is probably like him, and he has the ability to immunize the neurotoxins released by the spores. This is the only case found except himself.

The woman rested for a while and then said, "Later, I ate them all and relied on their flesh and blood for a while, but the temperature in the room began to rise, and finally the remaining Anne's body began to smell smelly and she couldn't eat it." She closed her eyes and said softly, "So I used her to make a trap and caught a zombie." A smile appeared on her face: "Zombies have great power and move very quickly, but since I survived, my strength and speed have also changed. The potential of human beings is always amazing, and more importantly, I am smarter than them."

"Since then, I began to hunt zombies in the building and eat them, just like they caught humans and ate them." She reached out and stroked the scars on her face, as if recalling the battle during that time. Then she looked at Chris: "I know you are in the north, and the soldiers are in the south, and I even often observe you with a telescope. I also know that there is a little girl who is always with you. Is she your sister?"

"Yes," Chris said, "her name is Claire. Why don't you join us?"

"Can I?" The woman showed a very strange expression: "Zombies eat people, but I even eat zombies. Can they still be considered human?"

She looked at Chris, her voice full of pain: "I am dead, but I cannot leave this world. I am not a human or a zombie, I am a demon. In order to punish this world, God has brought down a plague. Zombies are one kind, and I am also a kind, so I cannot go among you, it will only bring disaster to you."

"No." Ye Zhiqiu said softly: "You are not a demon, you are a human being, a kind human being." He held the woman's hand and said: "Maybe, you are the hope of mankind."

The woman looked at Ye Zhiqiu gratefully and whispered: "Thank you for your comfort, but I know I am not." She touched the scars on her face: "These are all left behind when fighting zombies. Humans bitten or scratched by zombies will be infected, but I am fine. I eat their meat and drink their blood, and it is fine. How can I still be a human?"

"Maybe there are antibodies in your body that can fight them." Ye Zhiqiu said: "When God closes a door, he will also open a window for his believers. You are the guidance he leaves to us."

The woman smiled: "Are you a priest? I have your forgiveness?"

"No." Ye Zhiqiu said: "No one is qualified to forgive you, we are all more sinful than you." He hugged the woman gently and looked at her ugly face: "The only one who is qualified to forgive you is yourself."

The woman's breathing became rapid. Ye Zhiqiu found that her pupils had begun to dilate. She whispered: "When I saw the zombies attacking you, I can only pray for you. I am willing to exchange my life for your peace. When you rushed out, how happy I was. God heard my prayers, so it was time for me to fulfill my promise." She looked at the sky with her empty eyes and whispered: "So I jumped down from the upstairs and used myself as a sacrifice to relieve God's anger." She gently grabbed Ye Zhiqiu's hand and whispered: "I saw that God forgives me, I want to go there to listen to his voice. Goodbye, my friends." Her hand tightened and muttered softly: "Live."

Ye Zhiqiu slowly raised his head, looked at the people around him, picked up the woman, found a clean and flat ground, and placed her flat on the ground. Chris took a piece of canvas from the single rack and covered her. Carlos whispered, "Do you want to bury her?"

"No." Ye Zhiqiu said: "We have more important things to do than this."

"That's right." Chris nodded, "It's getting late, let's go find other survivors."

A few of them looked at the woman lying quietly by the roadside and turned toward the pickup truck. The story of the woman was over, but they all had more to do.
