Chapter 329: Bodhidharma Cave (2)
Bodhidharma, namely Bodhidharma, a South Indian, was active on the Buddhist stage of ancient India when China was in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. He was originally the third son of the Xiangzhi King of the South Indian Kingdom, but he was attracted by the ideal of the Prajnado Venerable to save all living beings and the rich Buddhist wisdom. He worshipped under the Prajnado Venerable and became a disciple of Zen.
In the seventh year of Emperor Wu of Liang, that is, in the 526th year of AD, Bodhidharma sailed to Guangzhou. After discussing Buddhist language with Emperor Wu of Liang, he chose to go north, cross the river with one reed, and entered the territory of the Northern Wei Dynasty. He called himself the 28th generation disciple of the Buddha Sakyamuni, and preached in Luoyang, Songshan and other places for a long time.
Because Bodhidharma preached the Mahayana Buddhist thought, the main doctrine was that everyone could become a Buddha through practice, and his interpretation of Zen was unpredictable, so people at that time praised and criticized the Zen method he preached. After arriving at Shaolin Temple, Bodhidharma did not enter the temple to practice, but came to this cave located in Wurugang to meditate on the wall. He sat for nine years, and later became the fourth abbot of Shaolin Temple and passed the robe and bowl to Huike, the later "Second Master of Zen".
After Huiyuan briefly introduced the experience of Bodhidharma, Chen Shuqing asked: "Is that all? So, why can this cave isolate the breath of purifying power?"
Huiyuan sighed: "The Patriarch Bodhidharma has countless miracles in his life. For example, as a human being, he lived 150 years old. After passing away from poison, he was seen by Song Yun, who was sent to the Western Regions. There was only one leather shoe left in the coffin. These may have been fabricated by the world, but there is a miracle that is real and cannot be argued - that is, in the cave where he faced the wall, because Patriarch Bodhidharma meditated day after day, he actually left his outline on the cave wall..."
"What?" Zhu Yuanliang exclaimed immediately, "So, will the Patriarch Bodhidharma be a purifier?"
Huiyuan smiled and said, "There is no conclusion on whether the Patriarch Bodhidharma is a purifier. However, we analyze that he may have awakened the power of purification without realizing it, but he does not know it. Because of this, his breath carved the texture of the cave wall day after day, year after year, and changed the structure of the cave wall from the inside, which can be said to be "silent and silent". Under his extreme meditation, his self and his purifying power have reached a state of "emptiness". Therefore, everything in this cave has become "emptiness" without realizing it. Naturally, Donor Chen can no longer find the breath of the Awakening Star."
"It's so amazing!" Zhu Yuanliang couldn't help but exclaim, "In such a magical place, that guy might really understand something profound and let me transform myself..."
Huiyuan sighed and said, "Master leads you to the door, and practice depends on yourself. What level can you realize depends entirely on the fortune of Juexing..."
Chen Shuqing said completely at ease: "No matter how he understands, as long as the person is not lost, and if the monsters cannot find him in practice here, then we have nothing to worry about, let's go."
After saying that, the three of them stopped staying for a long time and turned back towards Shaolin Temple.
In fact, Pu Zixuan didn't think so much from the beginning. At this time, he was only extremely uneasy because of his conscience. He came to this isolated place and thought quietly, hoping to get a clear answer.
In his mind, there was always a question mark that could not be removed - did Elder Huike and Yan Xin kill me?
At night, everything is silent. Because the cave is isolated from the outside light, it is only illuminated by two oil lamps. Therefore, the light is no different from the daytime. However, the sound of insects and frogs chirping not far away is particularly clear.
Pu Zixuan silently watched his shadow shaking gently on the cave wall in front of him, as if the ancient humans were so close to the essence of the universe when they were living in the cave. I don’t know when, he suddenly felt that the depth and shallow patterns of the rocks on the cave wall were a bit strange, like the image of a monk meditating - whether it is facial features, head and body proportions, or postures.
This should have been a creepy scene, but Pu Zixuan was not at all comfortable at this time, but instead became more and more enlightened.
It’s impossible to be wrong. This must be the projection left by Master Bodhidharma after facing the wall for nine years. It was printed in this cave like rubbings. It was just because of the weathering over the past thousand years, and it is becoming more and more blurred now!
Thinking of this, Pu Zixuan couldn't help but ask softly: "Master Bodhidharma, can you tell me the answer?"
No one responded, and the only thing that was moving was still his swaying shadow. Pu Zixuan smiled unconsciously and closed his eyes.
I don’t know how much time has passed, just when Pu Zixuan felt sleepiness coming, suddenly, a whirring wind sounded in his ears, and he felt that the whole world seemed to be bright.
When I opened my eyes, I saw that the entire cave was suddenly shining by the sky blue light, and the light source did not come from my own purification power, but the surrounding cave walls!
Before he could figure it out, he saw a monk wearing a spacious white dress, thick beard, and a Western-looking look slowly walking out of the cave wall.
Pu Zixuan couldn't help but open his eyes and said, "Master Bodhidharma, is it you?"
The person who came was the first ancestor of Zen Buddhism, the Patriarch Bodhidharma. However, he did not respond to Pu Zixuan's question, nor was it even a physical one. Instead, he directly passed through Pu Zixuan's body and walked leisurely towards the entrance of the cave.
Pu Zixuan turned around and saw that the hole that was originally covered by a stone slab was opened as initially. At this time, it was snowing heavily outside. A person was kneeling in the place opposite the hole, his hands folded, and his whole body was already covered with ice and snow.
Bodhidharma walked near the entrance of the cave and asked in a deep voice: "You have been kneeling here for three days and three nights. What method are you going to ask for?"
The visitor opened his eyes and said, "My name is Shen Guang. I have read a lot of books since I was a child and are good at talking about mysterious principles. But I think that Confucius's learning is just a rule of rituals and rules, and the classics such as "Zhuangzi" and "Book of Changes" have not yet been fulfilled. Recently, I heard that the eminent monks of Bodhidharma came to ask the eminent monks to be compassionate, open the door of nectar, and save all sentient beings."
Bodhidharma also said: "The Buddhas have the supreme and wonderful path, which is achieved through diligence and diligence in the world, doing difficult things and enduring feelings. How can one want to obtain the true vehicle by relying on a small virtue and wisdom or a contemptuous heart, and in vain?"
The divine light was silent, as if inspired, and actually took out a quick knife from his arms, cut off his left arm and placed his remaining arm in front of Bodhidharma.
Bodhidharma's eyes stayed on his broken arm for a moment, and said in a true voice: "When the Buddhas first sought the Tao, they forgot their bodies to realize the Dharma. Since your desire for the Dharma is so sincere, I will accept you as a disciple and give you the Dharma name Huike."
When he saw this scene, Pu Zixuan was so shocked that he grew up his mouth. It turned out that the person kneeling in the snow was Huike, the second group of Zen Buddhism mentioned by his master, and this was the Dharma name he gave to the first generation of Xiqu!
Divine Light said in surprise: "Can you tell me the Dharma Seals of all Buddhas?"
Bodhidharma said: "The seals of all Buddhas cannot be heard from people."
Shen Guang said regretfully: "But my heart has not been settled yet. Please help me put it down."
Bodhidharma paused for a moment and whispered, "Then give me your heart and I'll help you put it."
Shen Guang was stunned and replied, "My heart can no longer be found."
Bodhidharma closed his eyes and said peacefully: "No, I have already set your heart for you."
The divine light seemed to have an sudden enlightenment, and was suddenly shocked. He put his hands together and kowtowed to Bodhidharma. When he stood up again, he was already full of tears.
At this time, Pu Zixuan's eyes became even moist.
Somehow, I couldn't understand what they were saying, but why, I was also moved by the friendship between the master and the apprentice?
Pu Zixuan wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes, calmed down, and wanted to continue listening, but the scene was frozen in that scene. Then, the divine light and Bodhidharma disappeared, leaving only the sound of wind and snow whistling among the mountains.
Later, the snow scene disappeared, the blue light disappeared, and the entrance of the cave was blocked by the stone slab again. When Pu Zixuan wanted to see something, everything in the Damo Cave became as quiet as before.
What happened just now? Am I dreaming? Or is it that the Spirit of the Heavenly Spirit of Master Bodhidharma wants to tell me in this way?
"I have put your heart on your behalf..." Pu Zixuan said to himself, looked at the mountain wall at the bottom of the cave, and murmured, "Master Bodhidharma, is it that the Elder Huike of yesterday who wanted to use his life to exchange for me to seek the Dharma?"
