Chapter 345: Premiere End(1/2)

Subtitle of this chapter: Finally this paragraph is finished!

………………………………………

The movie continues to play...

Among the fat-headed and big-eared MPs, a tall and thin middle-aged man with an exaggerated hooked nose and sharp mouth came out. What was impressive was that he was wearing a black coat.

Standing under the Mi-shaped banner, he looked like the crow before.

Needless to ask, this is another simile, which is to make the audience have such associations.

Subtitles are shown: British Minister of Colonial Affairs, Second Class Baron, Sir George Grey (2nd Baronet), Whigs.

"As a world-class screenwriter, Mr. Yuan Yanshu not only gave "The Lonely Girl" artistic and ideological nature, but also put a lot of effort into textual research.

As we all know, during his studies at New York University, he read various historical documents in the New York Public Library for many years, so he was quite knowledgeable. The inspiration for this movie comes from his usual accumulation.

Sir George Grey, the British Minister of Colonial Affairs who appeared in "The Lonely of Famine", was indeed a man, and he really proposed this plan. What's more, "Incest (one of Mr. Yuan's common terms)" is that his appearance and screen image are quite similar.

Therefore, some people jokingly call Mr. Yuan one of the 'Three Sages of the Library'. The other two are..."

The Crow walked onto the House of Commons and began to preach the "Famine Orphans" plan: sending Irish girls to Australia.

Gentlemen, this plan is the best of both worlds. Young girls can survive hunger and live in new and fertile lands. Australia has been in short supply for decades after being exiled as criminals, and it is urgent to need young women to work, take care of housework and reproduce the population...

"Hahaha……"

The British MPs present burst into vulgar laughter.

One of the MPs stood up and asked, "His Excellency Sir Grey, what if the Australians don't welcome those Catholics?"

The British Colonial Affairs Minister shrugged: "Australians do not welcome criminals nor Catholics, and now they must choose one!"

Briefly explain the historical background of this sentence.

Because by the mid-19th century, more and more free immigrants to Australia were immigrants, so the locals refused to continue to regard Australia as a place of exile for criminals.

By 1840, Australian transport criminals except Tasmania finally stopped. After Sir Grey came to power and wanted to restart the matter, the locals naturally rebounded very strongly.

Well, not only did Australia in 1848 feel very dissatisfied with Sir Grey, but the Irish in 1921 immediately cursed him when they saw him comparing Catholics with criminals.

"The British are the number one criminal in the world!"

"A dog bastard who betrayed the Holy See for divorce!"

"All the heresies of the Anglican Church must go to death!"

Just as the audience was scolding, the "Famine Orphans" plan was passed unanimously by the House.

So the camera turned back to Dublin, Ireland...

"Mr. Yuan himself once introduced that the architecture of "The Lonely Girl in the Famine" was to 'plagiarize' Dante's "Divine Comedy".

The three Farrell sisters were still in the world at the beginning.

With the death of the priests and the changes in the astronomical phenomena, they fell into the underworld.

From the moment they saw the mass grave, they actually arrived at the entrance to hell.

And when they arrive in Dublin, it means they are already in hell…”

In fact, our Master Yuan wrote the script like this not really paying tribute to Alicia Dante, but considering the psychological endurance of the movie audience at that time.

How do horror and thrillers in the 21st century come naturally? After all, audiences in later generations have long experienced the baptism of countless sensory stimulations. How can the directors attract the audience if they don’t exaggerate them?

1921 is different. Horror movies these days seem too pediatric to later generations. But on the other hand, if you just let the audience at that time watch movies like "Saw", they can't stand it.

So the opening of "The Lonely Girl in the Famine" is just "miserable", not "evil".

After entering the film "Dublin", he began to "evil".

This "evil" is not only a nauseating and disgusting "evil" that makes people feel nauseated, but also a "evil" that touches the bottom line of human morality.

And the reason for all this is "hungry"!

Of course, it is still because of the limitations of the times that Yuan Yanshu and Griffith, the two main creators, still "softened" many fragments.

But the audience could still understand that the three Farrell sisters saw ubiquitous flesh-and-skin transactions, various violent incidents, and even vague cannibalism in the city.

These scenes made the Irish people in the scene feel uncomfortable because not only did this completely violate the Catholic doctrine, but they also knew that these "villains" in the movie were their ancestors.

Do you understand? It is these two reasons that prompt Master Yuan and the others to "softify".

The originally lively venue has quieted again.

The three Farrell sisters and their fellow villagers took care of each other, and finally stood at the gate of the workhouse.

They found that there had been a long queue at the gate of the workhouse at this time. It should be noted that the entire Ireland relief system could accommodate up to 100,000 people.

At this time, the Irish relief system had received orders from London to recruit only healthy young girls.

So here comes another tear-jerking "life separation" scene, and several girls other than the three sisters have to say goodbye to their parents, brothers and even lovers.

In fact, there have been two young people helping the three sisters of Farrell along the way. It can be seen that they have a slight relationship with their elder sister and second sister, but love is too luxurious at this time.

In this way, the girls in the village entered the workhouse.

After watching "Orphans of the Mist" and "Les Miserables", you will know how terrible the workhouse in the 19th century was, not to mention that it was the workhouse during the Great Famine in Ireland.

However, in order to let the audience take a breath, our Master Yuan seems to be more warm and relaxed in comparison.

For example, girls were shaved with short hair and pursed their lips and laughed secretly.

For example, they eat voraciously.

For example, the eldest sister tells stories to other girls.

For example, they play tricks on the vicious but stupid nanny together...

In short, these joys in pain and show the playful and cute scenes of the girl making a soft laugh in the audience.

Then, the day of departure has come.

The first batch of "famine orphans" were taken to the dock and boarded a sailing boat to Australia.

This scene is actually strictly according to historical facts. In history, three ships in each batch of history carry 700 girls. David Griffith also really found three real sailing boats and 700 girls to shoot this scene.

Of course, compared to finding 15,000 extras in "The Party and the Party" to film the Persian army marching against Babylon, this is nothing.

But even so, this scene is quite spectacular.

These sailboats have been modified for a certain amount, and with Master Yuan’s “post-production”, they all look like prehistoric ocean monsters, opening their mouths and swallowing these poor girls.

Then there is a long-distance voyage.

In fact, the orphans of famine were much luckier than their fellow Americans during the same period.

Although Ireland only needs to cross one Atlantic Ocean from Ireland to America, because these poor people have no money at all, they can only ride in the cheapest ship. This kind of ship has extremely poor conditions and only provides passengers with a small amount of water, food and space. The passengers' mortality rate is often as high as 30%!

At this time, Britain had a lot of experience in transporting prisoners to Australia. After all, they had been doing it for nearly half a century since 1788.

To be fair, the British government was absolutely outstanding in the nineteenth century. This was a pure government act and was closely supervised by government agencies such as the Irish Poor Law Commission, the London Colonial Land and Immigration Commission and the Australian authorities.

So although it is much farther to Australia, the orphans have less than one percent mortality rate during their voyages.

But, however, this film was written by Yuan Yanshu. How could he say good things to the British?

Therefore, our Master Yuan began to launch the bento happily.

In the wet, cramped, dark and bumpy cabin, the already weak orphans died one after another. Many sea burials were held every day.

Seeing these young girls being swallowed by the ruthless sea, a soft sob sounded in the field.

However, under the care of her elder sister, the three Farrell sisters finally arrived in Melbourne safely.

When they walked out of the cabin, this was the second time that the sun appeared in "The Lonely of Famine". However, it was a vicious sun.

The surviving orphan girl of famine was placed in a military camp in Hyde Park (the British really like this name). (Author’s note: There is now a monument to commemorate the “Famine Girl”.)

But Australians do not welcome them. Local newspapers, media, upper and middle classes condemn these orphans who come, believing that they are immoral, useless, untrained, unable to become qualified maids, and will only waste public expenses.

The Sydney Morning Herald commented: "It's not a few hundred, but thousands of girls coming. They are not just orphans, but a wave of Irish poor people who drown us."

Comments with a stronger sense of hatred and discrimination come from the Melbourne Argus: "Our funds are not spent on decent, qualified, well-educated girls, … Our money should be spent on English girls with rosy cheeks, or on beautiful Scottish girls, rather than wasted on these rough, useless creatures. They have short, sturdy, poorly grown figures, thick waists and clumsy ankles, which have a very bad effect on the physique of future colonists in Victoria."

These words naturally attracted boos from the audience.

The three sisters are finally about to start a new life. However, before being chosen as wives, they cannot be idle and forced to go out to work. This time is an average of two and a half years.

Of course, the three Farrell sisters could not marry and have children peacefully and smoothly, and live a happy life from then on.

The careful elder sister heard the British's comments behind her back and went to a tavern as a waitress instead of her second sister. Sure enough, she was raped by the bad boss who was careless that day, and finally became a girl under the control of her boss.

There are two sisters who go to be maids for others.

The second sister soon married a policeman, but the policeman was a man with alcoholism and violence. She had a miscarriage due to her husband's beating and eventually died in pain due to typhoid fever and enteritis caused by miscarriage.

The policeman’s husband didn’t even handle the funeral, and the eldest and third sisters took out all their savings to make the second sister buried.

However, the third sister was suspected of stealing property from the family. The strong female employer and her sons beat her to death, and no one came to pursue such a crime.
