Chapter 31 "The Secret"

The novel Chen Yu finally chose to write was Keigo Higashino's "Secret".

This is a novel published by Keigo Higashino in 1998. The book won the 52nd RB Reasoning Writers Association Award, with a sales volume of over 2 million copies in Japanese version, and was voted by RB readers as the second most popular works of Keigo Higashino, second only to "White Night Walk".

The reason why Chen Yu chose this novel is very simple, because it was adapted into a movie in 1999 and was adapted into a TV series in 2010.

The movie in 1999 was played by Ryoko Hiromo. Before traveling through time, Chen Yu looked for it because he liked Ryoko Hiromo's wonderful performances in the film. At the same time, he also watched the original novel and TV series adapted by watching the movie. He was very familiar with the whole story.

The story told by the novel itself is not complicated. Keigo Higashino used his rich imagination and meticulous writing to describe a story about a wife who exchanged bodies with her daughter and continued to live with her husband, and her husband and wife who used her daughter's body struggled between ethics.

Although the story is not complicated, Keigo Higashino starts with the small things we are accustomed to in life with his meticulous brushstrokes, and presents the ordinary lives of the characters in the story to readers in detail, while showing the experiences of ordinary people several times, from being confused, gradually calm, completely bursting, heart-wrenching and then to the mixed emotions changes, revealing a touching power from the ordinary.

The discussion of human nature and ethics in this novel is also Chen Yu’s favorite. Compared with "White Night Walk" and "The Dedication of Suspect X", he prefers this "Secret".

Keigo Higashino's mystery novels do not focus on process like traditional native reasoning. They explore human nature more. In "The Secret", Chen Yu thinks that this is the best he has performed.

Perhaps this is also related to the fact that Keigo Higashino divorced his wife at that time. The protagonist of the book, Sugida Heisuke, was given a motivation by the author to write about his emotional experience in life.

The struggles of human nature and the choices of ethics are presented to everyone who reads this novel. In front of an ordinary and ordinary man, he has his own emotions, same desires, and same troubles as everyone.

But in the ordinary, Sugida Heisuke, an ordinary man who could not be more ordinary, made an amazing choice, allowing him to sublimate from the ordinary and shine with the glory of human nature, which made Chen Yu fall in love with this story when he first came into contact with it.

It is precisely because of his love for this novel that Chen Yu finally chose to use this novel as the beginning of his writing career.

Of course, the convenience of adapting the novel into a movie is another important reason why Chen Yu chose this novel.

However, although "copying" this novel is a good choice, Chen Yu still has a problem.

Although he thinks he has a good memory and can remember the plots of novels, movies, TV series, and movies, TV series, and the ones he can remember are only a rough content, and it is not as if he remembers every word in it after reading a novel.

This is also the reason why he added a lot of his own thoughts to the script when he rewrites "Love Letter", because he did not copy it intact, but instead explained the original story based on his own understanding and ideas.

The same is true for "Secret". Although Chen Yu has read the original work, it has been translated once. In addition, the original work is a novel, and all he can remember is the content of some exciting chapters.

If he wants to copy the whole book, he must use his own brushstrokes to complete the details.

However, the description and portrayal of details is precisely what Keigo Higashino is best at and the most outstanding part of his novel. Is he really capable of completing the story?

Chen Yu had little confidence in himself.

This is not a lack of self-confidence, but a self-knowledge.

Although Chen Yu also wrote novels before traveling through time and his works are pretty good, compared with Keigo Higashino, Chen Yu felt that he still had a big gap with others.

At least, Chen Yu didn't think his writing style could reach the level of Keigo Higashino when he wrote "The Secret".

But even saying that, it would be too embarrassing if I traveled through time and didn't even dare to try it.

Chen Yu admitted that he had a level gap with Keigo Higashino, but he would not be so mean that he could not copy other people's works.

The main body of the story has been built, don’t you even have the ability to perfect it?

If this is true, Chen Yu felt that he could tear up the part of his notebook about writing novels, and don’t worry about writing novels. He honestly made money and became the richest man in the world, and then married a female star he liked in his previous life as his wife, and lived a life that made others envious, jealous and hateful.

After re-energizing his confidence, Chen Yu took the opportunity to start his work.

Writing a novel itself does not require any preliminary preparations. A stack of paper and a pen are enough.

In later generations, Chen Yu used to use computers to code words, not bragging. He could type three or four thousand words on the keyboard in an hour.

But when I changed to this era, I wrote with a pen... Chen Yu remembered that in order to cope with the college entrance examination in high school, his best score was to write a thousand words in 45 minutes, Chinese characters.

If you want to write novels at this speed, it will inevitably be a bit slow. After all, novels that can often cost hundreds of thousands of words cannot be completed overnight.

This is why before the invention of computers, novels in human history were not very exaggerated. Even hundreds of thousands of words to millions of words were considered long, while novels that can be called long in the Internet era basically started with millions of words, and works of tens of millions of words are not uncommon.

After all, what determines the length of a work is just the efficiency of the writer's composing.

Ten thousand words a day and one thousand words a day, the length of works written in one year will be ten times different.

However, writing slowly also has the advantage of writing slowly, that is, you can carefully craft the details of the article, rather than writing on the same day, publishing on the same day, and there is almost no time to modify it again.

Some writers have written novels of hundreds of thousands of words for several years, and the three revisions are not just a statement.

Of course, for Chen Yu, he has ready-made experience to learn from, and the part of the three revisions can be omitted. All he has to do now is to write the story out.
