043: Problems at the 3

In the first training game of the first day after coming to the Grizzlies, Link's performance touched Lionel Hollins and his teammates.

Throughout the training match, Sam Young performed like a student player who was at a loss, as if he had seen the calmness of a professional player for the first time.

Link is like a veteran who has been fighting in the NBA for many years. His understanding of tactics, his cooperation with his teammates, and some of his playing habits on the court are not like a rookie.

However, Link only played 3 NBA games before this. Moreover, the three games combined have less than 10 minutes of playing time.

"Dududu!"

Elston Turner whistled and ended the 30-minute training game. In the end, Link's team won the game by 7 points with the outstanding performance of Gasol Jr. and Conley Jr. in the last moment.

Link scored 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in 30 minutes. His data didn't look gorgeous, but that was because he didn't take any action. But his value on the court is not something that can be reflected in the data.

His cover, his running pull, his defense, even Conley, who was not talking much, said to Link after the training game, "Good job, man."

"Okay, everyone has worked hard today, so the training ends here. Link, continue to keep going." Hollins pointed at Link, and then disbanded the team.

Link breathed a sigh of relief, and his debut with the Grizzlies was a successful end.

Entering the rotation lineup seems to be just around the corner!

On December 21, 2010, the Memphis Grizzlies hosted the New Jersey Nets who had not moved to Brooklyn at home.

In this game, Link did not get a chance to play, and he was not even put on the roster by Lionel Hollins. Many fans speculated that Link was thrown into the Development League again.

In this game, Brooke Lopez and Mark Gasol staged a retro inside battle. Both teams have a slow pace and often make the ball into the inside to let the two big guys fight one-on-one.

In 2010, I saw a game similar to the NBA in the 1990s, but it was not common.

As a third-grade player, Gasol performed quite well today. He played 28 minutes, made 6 of 10 shots, and scored 19 points cleanly. Although Lopez made 8 of 14 shots and scored 26 points better, Gasol was still just a third-grade player at this time.

The two sides have been hard to solve, but since the middle of the third quarter, the Nets have gradually taken the initiative.

This is not because the Nets coach "Little General" Avery Johnson thought of some strange tricks, but because Rudy Gay made the mistake of starting to shoot in a flash again.

Nowadays, the core of the offensive team is not the "Black and White Two Bears", not Mike Conley is not the arrogant O.J. Mayo, but the Rudy Guy who is at its peak.

Guy averaged 16.1 shots per game with the Grizzlies this season, the highest in the team. The stars in the league who scored more than him were all players like Kobe and James.

However, Guy is not a superstar. His shooting stability is very worrying when targeted.

The same is true today. After the middle of the third quarter, Guy started his "iron-smash performance".

Because of Guy's existence, the Grizzlies' offensive efficiency dropped sharply. The Nets seized the opportunity and opened the score in one fell swoop.

In the end, the Grizzlies also lost to the Nets 94-101 at home. From December 17 to today, this is the third consecutive defeat for the Grizzlies.

"It's a pity that the Memphis had the chance to win the game, but their star messed up all this." On the commentary stage, some local commentators from Memphis couldn't help but complain about Guy.

"Rudy Guy made 16 crazy moves, but only hit 4 goals! God, at the critical moment, he not only did not stand up, but also helped the team. If it weren't for his 25% shooting percentage, the Grizzlies would have won long ago! Look at Mark Gasol, he has the potential to become a real leader!"

The narrators' crazy complaints are reasonable, because this is not the first time Guy has caused the team to lose. Guy has a problem, that is, when he is not accurate, he still forces the shot. The more he is not accurate, the more paranoid he is.

This sounds a bit like Kobe, after all, Kobe is also one of the famous "Iron Kings". However, Kobe's ability to end the game at a critical moment is not comparable to Rudy and Guy.

After the game, Hollins walked towards the player channel with a dark face. When Rudy Guy felt cold, he replaced Sam Young to withstand the situation. However, Sam Young's performance of 1 of 4 shots disappointed Hollins.

If it weren't for the third position that wasn't available, he wouldn't have watched Guy push the team into the fire pit.

Just as Hollins was about to enter the player channel, he was still stopped by reporters.

"Coach Hollins, this is a regrettable defeat. Once again, the Grizzlies' lack of staff reserves at the third position was exposed to the spotlight. We all know that the Grizzlies signed Link a few days ago with a short ten-day contract, and he was one of the best players in the Development League this season. But today we didn't see him appear on the court, when are you going to let him out?"

The reporter's questions are very targeted. Today, when he was garbage, even Haddadi was pulled out and slipped away. If Haddadi could, then Link would be qualified to play.

Facing Xun, Hollins was still frowning, "When the time is right, I will let him appear!"

After saying that, this coach who highly praised defense left in front of the camera. Guy and Sam Young combined the performance of 5 of 20 shots made Hollins feel desperate.

In fact, Hollins needs Link very much now. Judging from Link's performance in the training game, he can definitely do better on the bench than Sam Young.

But Hollins deliberately did not play Link today, not because Link was not strong enough, but because he wanted Link to adapt to the NBA's intensity during training, and then lined him up at the right time, playing directly, and suddenly caught him off guard!

Hollins clenched his fists and he would no longer allow his team to lose due to the third position issue.

At this time, Link was sweating in the training ground of the Federal Express Arena. He was not selected for the roster, which means he did not have to enter the game court and did not have to go to the locker room.

So throughout the night, Link vented the extra strength in his body in the training hall.

He is not familiar with Memphis, and he has no friends in the local area for the time being. Apart from practicing football, Link couldn't think of anything else he could do.

Although the team lost the ball today, Link still smiled unkindly when he saw Rudy Guy and Sam Young performing like a "turnover scene".

The worse these two guys perform, the greater the chances of him entering the rotation lineup. Link has only been with the Grizzlies for a few days, so there is no way to have any feelings for this team. So for Link now, his personal playing time is above the team's victory or defeat.

Just as Link was smiling at the TV in the training ground, the door of the training hall was suddenly opened. Link was startled, and the person who pushed the door in was also surprised.

"Link!? Why are you here?" Leonard Hollins opened his mouth wide.

"I've been here all night, coach. I can't play, so I have to find something for myself." Link smiled embarrassedly.

"You've been in the training hall all night?" Hollins shook his head. After the afternoon training, he obviously asked Link to go home. Unexpectedly, this guy had practiced alone for so long.

In the Grizzlies, extra training is not common. I won’t mention the two "princes" Mayo and Guy, as it would be great if they could complete the training that day.

Conley works diligently, but rarely stays to increase his load. Randolph is not young anymore, and Gasol is not suitable for overload sports as a heavy fortress.

Therefore, it is not common to practice this kind of thing in Memphis.

Hollins was originally going back to the office to get things, but unexpectedly he encountered this scene. He smiled, then slowly walked towards Link, "Don't stay alone in the future and practice, it will not work well."

"Coach, but me"

Before Link finished speaking, Hollins spoke again, "If you need to practice more, I can arrange a trainer for you. In this way, you can get twice the result with half the effort. The resources of Link NBA team are the best in the world. If you don't need it, it would be a pity."

Smiling and patted Link on the back, Hollins turned and left.
