Chapter 30: Mission Accomplished
Steve entered the inside of the factory and began to call out William's name, but after a period of searching, he guessed that William had left the factory.
Just as he was about to leave, he saw the Red Skull Schmidt and Dr. Zora walking hand in hand.
The Red Skull said an inhuman declaration to Steve, and Steve asked loudly: "You said you can do everything, why do you want to run away?"
The Red Skull ignored the argument, disappeared by taking the elevator and leaving the factory in a single-person aircraft.
The escape process that was not a life-long death ended. Steve caught up with the deserter team with some smoke stained by the explosion and saw William, who had already gained leadership in the team in front of the team.
"William, I thought you were still in the factory." Steve said helplessly as he looked at William with a refreshing and better mental state than before lurking.
"No!" William looked surprised and asked Steve: "Am I so weak in your eyes? You don't think I'm weaker than you, are you teaching your superiors to do things? You don't think I need your help in such a simple thing! No! No!"
Steve was flushed by William's sarcastic words. He stubbornly whispered, "How can he be so contemptuous of the mission matter!"
"Puff~! Forget it, sir, shouldn't we think about how to go back to the back now? I haven't encountered alcohol for more than ten days. I think you can understand my mood, right?" The bearded man who likes to wear a gentleman's hat dispels the strange atmosphere between William and Steve with his smoky voice, and talks about the most realistic topic.
"No problem!" William spread his hands, took a step back, and stood aside.
Then, the audience was silent and all their eyes fell on him.
Facing everyone's eyes, William shrugged innocently: "Don't look at me, Steve is Captain America!"
"Uh...but you are the lieutenant colonel." Ace, who had an oriental face, said with some difficulty: "Aren't you supposed to lead us? Lieutenant Colonel Hawkeye?"
"Wow! So I'm so famous!" William was a little surprised that some of these people could recognize their nicknames. He was a little surprised. He thought that in this era, the circulation of information would be more obstructed, and the soldiers of the next division should not know him.
Ace took out his arms, took out a booklet, and introduced happily: "The biography about you has been published. I heard it was written by a man named Doug. Life in the army... You know, occasionally some entertainment things will be watched repeatedly, so!"
Ace blinked at William, and the meaning was very obvious.
"Ha?" William took the booklet, which was filled with dense texts, and described a man named William Evans from the perspective of a bystander...
"Fake! If I meet Doug, I must ask him to give me the copyright fee!"
"I'm afraid there is no chance. Doug has been sent to the sky by a mine." The bearded man touched the beard on his lips and said with regret: "He has a pretty good writing style."
Steve, who had been listening for a long time, couldn't stand it anymore and interrupted his conversation: "Hey! Shouldn't we discuss how to get back to the camp now? The communicator broke and couldn't contact the plane. We have disconnected from the command center!"
William returned the booklet to Ace, stepped forward and patted Steve on the shoulder, and said earnestly: "Steve, if you want Colonel Phillips to recognize you, then you must learn not to rely on others. This time the action is entirely your responsibility. I will listen to you. Can I do it well?"
William's tone was not half a joke. In the end, the trust that burst out from his eyes almost covered Steve's vision with a "glorious" filter.
Steve stared at William's eyes, then nodded seriously, and his aura suddenly changed. The leadership temperament that had been hidden was fully displayed at this moment.
Steve naturally took over the command, and they needed to rush through three heavy fire points and return to the camp on the front line.
"Bring all the wounded and get the weapons! We don't have much rest time on the road, and the enemy may be surrounded at any time. Now set off now!" Steve carried the somewhat funny star helmet, but his momentum was no weaker than William who was serious.
"What? Then what should we use to pass the level?" The bearded man was stunned when he heard this order. With more than 400 of them, they rushed through three firepower points. Isn't this a bit too whimsical?
Ace looked at William who was smiling but speechless. Compared to the cheerleader, he felt that this Hawk-eyed Lieutenant Colonel was more reliable.
But this time William was also serious. If the command was not handed over to Steve, it would be difficult for Colonel Phillips to have a good face to Steve.
When Steve heard the problem, he turned around, patted the body of the energy tank that was driven out, raised his eyebrows and said, "We have this!"
Everyone looked at each other and finally agreed to Steve's plan, preparing to return to the command center in the most direct way.
Three days later...
In the tent of the temporary command, Colonel Phillips, with a gloomy face, was telling the draft in his hand and the clerk about the printing of the content that needed to be printed, about Steve's disappearance.
Not only does he need to deal with the impact of Steve's death, but he also needs to find a commander as good as William.
After reading the manuscript, Colonel Phillips couldn't help but urge to tear off the draft paper in his hand.
Peggy Carter, who had been standing at the entrance of the tent for a long time, took a deep breath and walked into the tent with his teeth.
The footsteps of the women's leather shoes were so easy to identify. The moment Peggy Carter approached the tent, General Phillips turned around and looked at Peggy Carter with a gloomy face.
The guilty Peggy Carter dared not look at Colonel Phillips and put the reconnaissance report in his hand on the table: "The last reconnaissance plane has returned and there is no sign of activity..."
Colonel Phillips still looked at Peggy Carter, picked up the investigation report in his hand, and said, "Get me a cup of coffee, corporal!"
Peggy Carter's position is quite special. Although her military rank is very low, she does a lot of work. Generally, she acts as Colonel Phillips' assistant.
Peggy Carter responded, but did not move.
Phillips turned around and stood at the edge of the tent. The gloomy sky was a little brighter today. He wanted to reduce his anger with the insignificant warmth of winter.
"I can't contact Stark. He is very rich and is also the military's number one weapon supplier, and you can't even take over!"
Peggy Carter's body stiffened when she heard this because she used an imperfect excuse to evade Colonel Phillips and covered up William's proposition, which was a reward for William's helping Steve.
So Phillips may have some minor misunderstandings about her...
Peggy Carter took a deep breath and said, "Sir, I don't regret participating in this mission. I think Captain Rogers thinks so too...and Lieutenant Colonel William."
Phillips turned around and looked at Peggy Carter who still didn't dare to look at him, saying lightly: "Why do you think I care about your point of view? Agent Carter, I have experienced an adventure with you, but now because of your impulse, the American Golden Boy and many others died, and the best commander in history, Lieutenant Colonel William Evans! Do you understand what I mean?"
Peggy Carter dared not reply, but there were waves of riots outside, which temporarily attracted Colonel Phillips's gaze.
“What happened outside?”
...
When Phillips and Peggy Carter came outside, they saw the crowds surrounded by the whistle at the door and the roads given out.
Led by Steve, a considerable team is slowly heading towards the camp.
The level rose, and although the group was in a dusty state and in a good state of mind, they still had a proud expression on their faces, with amazing momentum.
Even the five-pointed star helmet on Steve's head looks less funny...
"Let's see who is back!" A scream from the onlookers, followed by an applause, and they were happy with the return of friendly troops.
The team walked into the camp, and Steve led the team to Colonel Phillips.
Stand attentively and Steve said to Colonel Phillips, who was slightly surprised, "Someone needs treatment...I am willing to accept punishment!"
Phillips was very happy to see so many captured soldiers being rescued, but he still didn't have too many expressions on his face. He wanted to smile but couldn't let go. After avoiding Steve's gaze, he said, "That's not necessary."
But Phillips couldn't help it in the end. After all, he was not a politician who was good at expression management, and a faint smile appeared on his face.
But when this smile was seen as the figure sneaking into the crowd, Phillips whispered loudly: "Lt. Colonel Evans, I'm back from a battle, how about coming to my tent for a cup of coffee!"
William, who was about to get into the crowd while the chaos was in the chaos, was outrageously pushed to the open place by several smiling soldiers, completely exposed to General Phillips' vision.
William glared at the two soldiers fiercely, especially Bucky, who was smiling very happily. From then on, he knew that today's smile was not so easy to release!
"Yes, sir!" William followed Colonel Phillips helplessly and left the captain who was surrounded by victory.
Seeing that the atmosphere was warm, Bucky immediately called on these people to cheer for Captain America.
