Chapter 69 In Guiyuan Temple
After reading Buddhist scriptures one day, and Yang Tao's explanation of the truth that he had let go, Chen Chufan let go of the fact that he had become a little unusual than ordinary people, and his thoughts became more detached. But when the opportunity to study abroad was in front of him, Chen Chufan was confused again. Should he leave? Or stay? This is a multiple-choice question, it has nothing to do with letting go, or which side should he put?
The question is difficult, and both sides are hard to give up. On one hand, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but on the other hand, it is a friendship that young people cannot give up. If Chen Chufan was still an ordinary boy who had no ambitions and was willing to be ordinary, or Chen Chufan had a kind and righteous character, then this question would not be a difficult problem. He could easily make a choice.
But now Chen Chufan is not bothered, so he is troubled and difficult to make a decision. He even tossed and turned and couldn't sleep at night. As soon as the sky was dawn, Chen Chufan, who had basically not been asleep all night, got up, changed into more regular clothes and left the dormitory alone.
More than an hour later, a young man was added at the gate of Guiyuan Temple in City W. The young man was of course Chen Chufan, who was staring at the solemn and solemn temple gate. It was Chen Chufan who had long been thinking about coming to Guiyuan Temple. On the one hand, he chose to come here to seek theoretical support and comfort for the changes in his body, and on the other hand, he was to seek peace of mind.
This was the first time Chen Chufan came to this thousand-year-old temple, so he didn't know that this thousand-year-old temple was located in the most secular neighborhood of W City. After getting off the bus, he walked all the way through the noisy fresh food market, passed by the crowded flower market, passed by a row of lively breakfast shops, as well as elementary schools, bookstores, side dishes, grocery stores, barber shops, etc. Just when Chen Chufan even thought he had found the wrong place and was about to ask for directions, the solemn Guiyuan Temple suddenly appeared in front of him.
On one side is a messy market, and on the other side is a pure Buddhist temple. This is too different from the ancient temple he imagined, so the young man is inevitably shocked. In the boy's simple consciousness, the site of the Buddhist temple is of course the quieter the better. Even if there are no famous mountains and rivers in the city of W, we cannot find a small alley at will, so we can settle down, right?
After being shocked, Chen Chufan went to the ticket office next to the gate and exchanged 20 yuan for a paper ticket.
Once you enter the temple gate, you will be purified.
A simple door really separates the prosperous world from the pure Buddhist temple. It was in the early days that the monk's morning class chanting sounds surrounded the temple, adding a solemn temperament to the thousand-year-old temple. It also made the boy's mood calm for no reason. Or did I really have a fate with the Buddha? The boy laughed at himself, but he didn't stop and wandered around the temple.
Perhaps because of his Buddhist Vajra body, Chen Chufan, who was walking in the temple, smelled the sandalwood in the temple and the Zen sing in the temple, felt inexplicably intimate, and his contradictory mood seemed to calm down. He walked like this, smelled, listened, watched, passed by the release pond, passed the Arhat Hall, and visited the Great Hall, but Chen Chufan stopped at the entrance of a small Buddhist temple.
What attracted him was a couplet posted in front of the Buddhist temple. The first couplet was "Do it when you see it, let it go when you do it, what's wrong with it?" The second couplet was "Wisdom comes from awakening, awareness comes from freedom, birth or non-birth."
It seems to be easy to understand, but it is obscure and difficult to understand. It seems to have some meaning, but it is like there is nothing to say. It makes Chen Chufan think a little confused. He is standing at the door of the Buddhist temple and has not moved for a long time.
"Amitabha, I wonder what the donor is thinking?" After the morning class of Master Longyuan, he returned to the meditation room and saw the young man standing in front of the Sutra Pavilion and silently. He had been reading Buddhist scriptures in the meditation room for nearly an hour and was about to patrol the temple, but he saw that the young man was still standing in front of the Sutra Pavilion, as if he had not moved at all. He was curious and it was rare to take the initiative to come forward and talk.
Speaking of Master Longyuan, 30 years ago, he was a small fire-burning monk in Guiyuan Temple, but now he is the top leader of the entire Guiyuan Temple. Of course, the top leader is a secular saying, so he should be called the abbot here. Since he became the abbot, the identity of the abbot is definitely only one of them, such as Master Longyuan is also a member of the ZH Buddhist Society, the secretary-general of the W Buddhist Association, and the member of the CPPCC, etc. In short, he is definitely respected. Therefore, the young man should feel honored to be able to ask such a master Longyuan himself.
"I'm wondering what this couplet means." When someone heard someone's question, the boy seemed to be still thinking about it. He didn't look back or think, and blurted out the doubts in his mind.
"Do it when you see it, and let it go when you do it, which means that we will do it when we see things! If we know how to do it, we can keep improving it. If we don't know, we can learn and do it. What's wrong with it? Even if we finish things, we should let it go no matter whether we succeed or fail. Just because everything in this world is between the end and the end. When we see it, we do it, what else is there to be but not the end, and it is worth worrying about? This is the meaning of the first couplet!" Abbot Longyuan didn't know why today, but seemed to see the young man being parted in a relationship, and he took the initiative to answer the young man's questions.
After the explanation, he paused, and Abbot Longyuan continued to explain the second couplet: "Wisdom is born from awakening, and awareness is born from freedom. In this way, wisdom is wisdom. When we read and learn, we have wisdom, and wisdom comes from enlightenment. Awareness comes from our desire for knowledge, that is, our natural desire and state. We constantly doubt and constantly resolve doubts are the process of learning, so whether we are born or not? In fact, there is not enough to be born, there is gain, and there is gain, and there is no gain if we are not given. Can the donor realize it?"
Chen Chufan shook his head in a little annoyed, turned around, and glanced at the monk who had explained it to him in vain. He felt that the monk had a big ear and nothing surprising. Although he was reading Buddhist scriptures thoroughly, he had no idea of the meaning of the monk's clothes and outfits, so he did not realize at all the noble identity of the master wearing a cassock in front of him.
If I don’t know, I don’t have a sense of awe. So the boy’s tone became very casual.
"I talked for a long time, but I still have two words. Let go! But these two words can be explained clearly in the world? You say that you are willing to give up. If you are willing to give up, you will gain something. I insist on saying that you can't give up. If you are reluctant, you may not be able to give up. If you are reluctant, you may not get it. What can the monk explain?" He was a little rude in his words, but the young man was already angry and wanted to ask the Buddha to answer his doubts, but he just heard an old monk still talking about it. Of course, he was even more annoyed.
Abbot Longyuan was not upset and asked quietly: "It seems that the little donor has something that is difficult to decide, which makes the heart fire difficult to disappear. But the monk still said that, whether to let go, because after all, he has to let go."
Chen Chufan stared blankly at the monk who was still kind in front of him. He knew that the complaints he had just made had no reason, so he couldn't help but feel guilty, so he said bitterly: "Monster, you have a good temper and all the words are all great principles, but how can you let go? Just as this couplet says, do it when you see it, and let it go when you do it. But now I want to do it, so I need to give up first. I don't know how long it will take to do it. If I spend a few years doing it, but I can't let it go, what should I do? Listen to what you said, as the Heart Sutra says, the heart is free from worries. There is no terror. Stay away from delusions and dreams. In the end, Nirvana! It sounds beautiful, but has no meaning! Because my heart cannot be free from worries, so I can't stay away from horror. How can I gonna be nirvana?"
"Seeing that the young donor is so old, he actually picked up the Buddhist verses. Could it be that he has specially learned the principles of my Buddhist sect?" Master Longyuan did not care about the boy's robbery, but was surprised that Chen Chufan could speak the Buddhist scriptures by opening his mouth. Now it is not the past. For a boy, it is probably rare to see the Buddhist scriptures, not to mention that he can pick them up casually.
"I have learned it, of course I have learned it. I can recite the 3,927 Chinese Tripitaka. Is it true that the monk is trustworthy?" Chen Chufan said shamelessly, and then sighed and said with a sigh: "If you know Buddhist scriptures, you can learn the principles of Buddhism, and I am afraid that I can become a Buddha immediately!"
"The donor is joking! But it is inappropriate to lie in front of the Buddha. It is a sin, a sin!" Abbot Longyuan was finally a little unhappy. At first glance, the young man stood in front of the Sutra Pavilion, pondered and said nothing, as if he had doubts. He kindly mentioned it and could not speak kindly. He respected him as the abbot of a temple, but was called out by the young man and monks, but he could not care about it. However, the lies in front of the Buddha made Master Longyuan quite displeased.
In other words, bragging in front of the monk made the monk a little unhappy.
"I knew you didn't believe it, but that's the truth! Do you think I'm such a boring person? I'll go to the temple to brag with you, the monk?" Chen Chufan said helplessly.
"Amitabha, since that's the case, Longyuan wants to take the donor. If the donor is really well-versed in Buddhist scriptures, I will offend the monk!" Abbot Longyuan was really angry, and he was actually competing with the boy in front of him.
"You monk is so boring. You said you were taking the exam, but I didn't get the exam. It would be fine if you left without a walk. I passed the exam, but you just offended it and there was no further information. Then why do you want me to ask you to take the exam? Is it good for me?" Chen Chufan said with a lip silence.
"This?" Longyuan's abbot has a unique position. How could anyone be so lazy to tell him the conditions? He was so stinged by Chen Chufan that he didn't know what to say. He shook his head and felt that his behavior today seemed a little funny. He inexplicably moved his anger with a young tourist here. He couldn't help but shake his head, smiled with a self-deprecating smile, and then said, "Oh, it's really a monk who has come here! Don't blame the donor, I won't disturb the donor's tour, say goodbye, say goodbye!"
After saying that, he was about to turn around and leave and continue to patrol the temple.
"Hey, monk, wait, I haven't finished talking yet!" This time, Chen Chufan took the initiative to stop the monk.
