Chapter 25 Double and Half

To be honest, Acosta has not yet figured out what profession the Ming Empire's "general" is.

In the past, he thought it was the same as their generals, but later found that it was not the case. For example, in the Philippines, the general of the Ming Empire, Chen Mu, would work part-time pirates like a shameless English general, attacking transportation routes.

Also in the Philippines, their generals would govern the local area like a governor, and would enact laws like a committee, and buy and sell goods like merchants.

Now I have to work as a part-time tailor and artist again.

Acosta suspected that in both languages, the translation of the word "general" may have been misunderstood by both sides.

In fact, Yang Tingxiang just mentioned it casually, because in his opinion, Acosta talked about their views on military uniforms, and some of them wanted to express the view that "you are flashy and unreal" and he wanted to suppress his idea from another perspective and show the powerful manufacturing industry of the Ming Empire.

As for really making military uniforms for Spain, where do you want to go? Can Westerners accept Marshal Chen’s usual pricing standards for doing military uniforms?

But what he didn't expect was that the chief quartermaster of the Bernal Legion who was following Acosta really recorded his jokes and asked him very seriously about the military uniform and the price of armor.

No one can imagine how outrageously weak Spain's manufacturing industry is compared to the Ming Dynasty.

For example, the textile industry, because the nomadic sheep class in its country, can produce a large number of high-quality merino wool every year, people usually think that the domestic textile industry should be full of vitality to produce this raw material, but the opposite is true.

Since the establishment of the Inquisition, a large number of Jews left the country with goods and funds. Barcelona was completely destroyed and industry and commerce have disappeared.

The farmland in Spain was also abandoned due to the existence of Mesta. Whenever farmers seized a little opportunity, they hoped to change their survival. Even if they needed to feed their citizens, they needed to import a large amount of money. In addition, the uncontrolled inflow of silver caused soaring prices and a mess of agriculture.

Only animal husbandry is the only one left.

But most of their wool was sold to other countries. The law stipulated that no more than one-third of the wool remained in the country every year. Charles V, the father of Philip II, wanted to increase this proportion to one-half to protect the country's wool industry, but was opposed by Mesta but failed.

Who would have thought that the border disputes that were originally inclined to be tense would evolve into two "real allies" with "100% enthusiasm" to discuss arms deals because of Yang Tingxiang's casual words?

More than forty men from New Spain and the Eastern Military Palace gathered in a wide wooden house. The fireplace was burning brightly and the tea was added over and over again. The grand lion dance and fireworks on the sea in Majiagang were over. They were still discussing business matters in full swing.

So every once in a while, Yang Tingxiang took his troops to another room to discuss and report the matter to Chen Mu who was waiting, and reported to the chief in confusion: "Master, do the Spaniards not care about the territory on the West Coast at all? They have not been in a hurry yet!"

"Just because they talked to us casually, they had been buying military uniforms for half an hour, and they even broke the price of leather belts, short tops, mid-single trousers, even a helmet and a pair of breastplate. They even didn't miss out on daily use of soju, tea, candles, and lamp oil."

Chen Mu was so dizzy that he said with the greatest malicious speculation: "Is this their negotiation strategy to paralyze us in order to gain a greater advantage in the next boundary division?"

Yang Tingxiang didn't say anything, but Zhao Shizhen, who had negotiation experience with the Spaniards, said: "I don't think it's like the Grand Marshal. Their quartermaster also specifically talked about the price of buying a pair of armor in Milan. Compared with ours, we tried to lower the price, and we were very serious."

"I think they want to lower the price, but they actually didn't."

Zhao Shizhen said to Chen Mu helplessly: "They said that the kind of breastplate worn by our flag army is nothing. From a place called Genea or Milan, according to their name, it is only ten Florida. We have to wait to order this breastplate, and seven Florida is a suitable price."

"Students saw that the small gold coins they called Florin are weighing one cent per coin, and ten are one tael of gold or eight taels of silver, Chen Shuai!"

Zhao Shizhen tried to shout and lower his voice and successfully made Chen Mu laugh. Then Zhao Shizhen said, "He said one tael of gold was to reduce the price. I guess the last one tael of gold would be negotiated. Our breastplate material costs six cents of silver, and the wages are nine cents of silver. A lucky boat can transport at least 1,500 sets twice a year. Even if you add five cents of silver, a boat can earn tens of thousands of silver!"

Obviously, the half-hour discussion made Zhao Shizhen feel ecstatic for too long. The smallest mechanic unit of the Ming Dynasty clenched his fists and lowered his voice: "Asian unloading goods is not empty, bring specialties such as Western wool, good wood, and big wood, at least ten times the profit, investing in three military weapons bureaus to expand production, it will be earth-shaking seven or eight years later!"

To be honest, Chen Mu opened the door to a new world because his talents successfully led an important border negotiation between Ming and Western countries.

This negotiation made him realize that Spain, the overlord who had been scattered across the continent for decades, was a country whose arms were completely dependent on foreign trade.

Armor relies on Milan, Genea, iron cast artillery, shells, and gunpowder relies on the Netherlands. All the local people own are shipbuilding and musket manufacturing.

This was something he had never thought about in the past, and he had even considered the relationship between the two countries with a competitive and confrontational thinking. That was because he felt that Spain, who was in Europe, had more advantages in modernization than the Ming Dynasty, which was relatively far away and lacked communication, but now he doesn't think so.

Chen Mu took out the paper to outline the situation in Spain.

The world is developing, culture is exchanged, modernization is inevitable for development, and the world environment has undergone major changes since this era. Rise does not mean weak because of strength, decline does not mean weak, but whether it can adapt to the new era environment, or whether it can find a way to change from the old way of survival to a new and more adaptable way of survival.

Spain's deformed production structure should have long appeared like the Ming Dynasty in history. The huge country collapsed or declined rapidly.

But America saved Spain, but it also caused its own production structure to not change. It only took a small step forward from the Middle Ages, and its huge financial resources and strong military power still made it roam across Europe.

After analyzing these things, Chen Mu raised his hand in distress and tapped his temples gently with his knuckles, muttering to himself: "Why should I be obsessed with fighting with him in such a country?"

On the paper, Chen Mu clearly outlined a formula for getting along with Ming and Xi in the future.

You worked hard to mine in Asia, gold, silver, iron ore, copper ore; you worked hard to farm in Asia, cotton, sugar cane, tobacco, chili pepper; in the end, you didn't warm up in your pocket and stuffed them all into my pocket.

Because these commodities are used as currency to buy artillery, military uniforms, armor, and various handicrafts and daily necessities from Sulu, Borneo, Japan, Korea, and Malacca, ww Ming Dynasty, grassland tribes, emperors of Luzon Myanmar and Amelica, old friend of Spain and Portugal, the great and powerful invincible Chinese Empire, His Majesty Zhu Yijun, the Wanli Emperor of the Chinese Empire, to buy artillery, military uniforms, armor, and various handicrafts and daily necessities to meet Spain's needs for foreign wars and the lives of domestic aristocratic peasants.

Chen Mu slowly tore the paper apart and threw it into the fireplace. His subordinates had already been involved in a new round of discussions. He was left in the huge room with his hands behind his back and slowly paced beside the fireplace, muttering to himself in a compassionate narration tone.

"In the late 16th century, a very powerful kingdom would be even stronger, like a war machine that was fully driven, no, like a war machine that was fully driven by Jili, crushing everything ahead. His Majesty Philip still had an independent court in form. In fact, his country's politics, economy and other social aspects were controlled and enslaved by foreign colonialism, and in the form of social development, it was a historical decline."

"At this point, the country controlled by Philip II has entered a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society, and the powerful dynasty has left endless grief for future generations hahahahahaha!"
