Chapter 55 The Brotherhood

Brotherhood is a club-like organization linked to secular purposes such as religion or socialism. The members of the organization are mutually beneficial and equal. The earliest brotherhoods appeared in Britain in the 18th century. One of the well-known brotherhoods, the Freemasons (also known as the American Student Association, Tongzi Association, Rule Association, and Mason Association), is often linked to conspiracy theorists and all kinds of nonsense in the Internet era where information is complicated. However, in fact, the Freemasons are just a brotherhood with a strong religious atmosphere.

In addition to the Freemasons, fraternities are more active in universities. Some of them are famous because they have organized many celebrities, such as the Skeleton and Bones at Yale University (the President Bush Jr.), and some because they have "accidents" in their weird "abuse" joining the society.

From the 19th century to the mid-twentieth century, it was the golden age of the American Brotherhood organization. There were hundreds of fraternity organizations in the United States. At that time, almost all adult men in the United States (during this period, only adult men allowed to join) were members of a certain fraternity. However, after the 1960s, the fraternity organization began to decline rapidly, and only the fraternity in colleges still maintained a certain degree of vitality, and almost all of its nature were social community organizations.

Generally speaking, fraternity recruits members usually adopt the principle of voluntary application. The joining process has corresponding regulations and certain requirements for members (such as age, belief, race, gender, etc.). Therefore, it is relatively rare for organizations like Evan to be invited to join.

And there is more than one organization.

After also politely rejecting the invitation from the Freemason, Evan returned to work with a little confusion.

That night, Evan asked Earl his question at the dining table: "Why are they all coming to me?"

Earl wiped the corners of his mouth with a napkin, drank a small sip of red wine, and said, "It's not surprising, Evan!"

"Because you're good enough."

"Evan, what kind of organization do you think the Brotherhood is?"

Evan replied: "A group of ritual madmen, mysterious associations formed by mystics for various purposes, have grown and strengthened under the vision of mutual benefit?"

Evan felt a little guilty when he said this.

As soon as he finished speaking, Nina couldn't help laughing.

Earl gave Evan a blank look and said, "What are you talking about?"

"But there is one thing you are right. No matter which fraternity, 'mutual benefit' is its basic principle."

"A fraternity is a collection of members who have the same purpose, ideal and willing to be equal and mutually beneficial. Its essence is a collection of connections. The value of a fraternity lies in the quality of its members. Only when the quality of the quality can it attract new members, otherwise it will soon weaken."

Evan said: "So, are they interested in my 'quality'?"

Earl nodded.

Evan asked: "Earl, what should I do? Join, or not?"

Earl said nothing: "Why ask me? Evan, this is something I should consider myself."

Evan thought about it and did not continue on this topic anymore.

Although Earl did not give any advice, Evan also figured it out. As he himself said, mutual benefit is the vision of the Brotherhood. If the Brotherhood can help him, then why not join. On the contrary, if there is no help, you have to waste your energy to help others, then why join.

Just as Evan asked Earl for advice on the Brotherhood, a conversation about Evan was also unfolding in a room at the Elk Tower. One of the two parties was BPOE's knight Grey, and the other was BPOE's "secretary" of California, David Haight. Both parties had equal status in principle, but from the perspective of organizational structure, Haight was Gray's boss.

Heit was in his early forties, with a slightly bald head, and lived in Palo Alto, and was an active member of the Brotherhood.

After listening to Gray's report, Hatter touched his head and said, "So Masonics are also targeting him? This is not possible, and they can't get it first."

Although there is not a complete competitive relationship between different fraternities. A person can join multiple fraternities at the same time, his energy is limited. Joining first and then joining means that the order of importance in his heart has been arranged.

Heit asked: "How do you think of Warren (Evan)'s appearance on elk?"

Gray thought for a while and said, "It's not very clear, but at least it's not disgusting. Warren is also one of us."

Haite frowned and said, "But he is also a master of Masonicism. So it would be natural for little Warren to choose to be a 'stonemaster'. Gray, what can you do?"

"I've asked Rogers and Lyon, who are also Caltech, to contact him. I think as future alumni, they should have common topics. In addition, I will go there often myself."

"By the way, I'm planning to organize a party recently. Can I invite him to come?"

Hatter gave Gray a complimentary look and said, "Of course, let him feel the warmth of the organization in advance. This is a solution! OK, just do it!"

"By the way, that Warner, you keep an eye on it. You can intervene if necessary. In short, I don't want them to be in front of us!"

"I understand, sir!"

...

The next day, the BPOE man appeared in the laboratory again. This time, only one person came, Edward Rogers.

Rogers came to deliver the invitation. Evan accepted the invitation, but did not make it clear that he would still not go when he arrived.

After the invitation was delivered, Rogers did not leave. He was very curious about Evan's laboratory and what he was doing. He suggested that he wanted to visit.

Rogers is a student of the California Department of Technology and Chemistry. He started in September and was in his second grade. After chatting for a few words, Evan had a good impression of him. In addition, his "talent collection habit" attacked, so he agreed to Rogers' request and allowed him to visit his laboratory.

Of course, Evan will not let Rogers in at the moment.

After coming to the laboratory, after listening to Evan's introduction, Rogers looked admiring after learning the positive significance of the seat belt he was developing to the driver.

"Evan, you are truly the gospel of all car lovers in the world."

Evan smiled at Rogers' exaggerated praise.

Then, Rogers made another request to Evan: "Evan, can I intern with you? I am very interested in the seat belt and hope to contribute to its birth."
