Emphasis on literature and light on martial arts

The rebellion was quelled, and it was time to hold accountable. As the boss, Wang Quanbin privately divided the treasury of Shu Kingdom, embezzled public funds, and was unable to restrain the troops, which led to the chaos of Shu Kingdom. Of course, the surrendered ministers of Shu Kingdom had already complained countless cases in front of Zhao Kuangyin, and after the inspectors who went to Shu land came back, they reported all the illegal acts of Wang Quanbin and others. However, Zhao Kuangyin did not recall the guilty person. He knew that it was the wisest to let these guilty people go to quell the Shu chaos, because they were panic and they had to fight harder to make contributions. And he did not dare to force Wang Quanbin to come back. It would be fun to force Wang Gou to jump over the wall and rebel in Chengdu. In the first month of the 5th year of Gande (967), the chaos had been put down, and it was time to settle the accounts after the autumn. Zhao Kuangyin issued an edict to ask them all to go to Beijing to report.

There was a man who was quick to go to Beijing and he knew that it would not be so easy to get over this matter. At the critical moment, he had to be strong first and abandoned the commander and guard the soldiers. As soon as Wang Renshan entered Beijing, he immediately found Zhao Kuangyin and expressed his intention to be a dirty witness. He deeply exposed and reported Wang Quanbin and others' illegal behavior. Of course, he avoided the important issues, cited three as one, and briefly reviewed them.

But is Zhao Kuangyin so easy to cheat? "Is it all Wang Quanbin who took Li Tinggui's prostitutes and opened Fengdeku to get gold and silver?" Wang Renshan understood that Shu was not as high as the mountains and the emperor was far away, and his every move was clearly controlled by the emperor. After a while, Wang Quanbin and others also came.

On January 23, the Censorate directly held a trial in the court. The emperor called Shu ministers and the envoys confronted him. The evidence was both present, and it was useless for Wang Quanbin and others to argue. Moreover, they had already figured out Zhao Kuangyin's temper, and their emperor was not strong. On the 24th, the court decided: Wang Quanbin, Cui Yanjin, and Wang Renzhan should be executed according to the law. But the mouths of a hundred ministers could not match the mouths of the emperor. Zhao Kuangyin was a famous person who protected his shortcomings. With a wave of his hand, all of them were demoted to one post. On the 25th, the Chongyi Army was established in Suizhou, and Wang Quanbin was the Remaining the Queen; the Zhaohua Army was established in Jinzhou, and Cui Yanjin was appointed as Remaining the Queen; Wang Renshan was dismissed from the Deputy Envoy of the Privy Councilor. He was never held back from his good job such as the military commander who could earn money from outside to get subsidies on business trips. No one escaped. Kang Yanze, a man who made great contributions in the quelling of Shu rebellion, was demoted to the Tangzhou coaching envoy. I believe he was a greedy person and made a lot of money in Sichuan, just like I believe that those who make money may not be unable to do things. His ending was also related to money. He lost his official position while competing for family wealth with his nephew. He has never been an official since then.

Later, Zhao Kuangyin restored Wang Quanbin's status as a military governor. He also said to him, "I am afraid that the generals in the south will not respect the discipline, so I suppress you for several years, thinking that I have established military laws. Now I will defeat Jinling and return you to the wise and wise." What a good boss.

But the happy time that belonged to Wang Quanbin was over. He had a good start and destroyed Shu Kingdom in 66 days. But he had a bad ending and suffered the popular retirement syndrome of officials. He made his originally heavy and glorious military career turn into darkness at the end and unbearable.

Wang Quanbin's journey from top to bottom was already ruined. On the other hand, Liu Guangyi's journey made Zhao Kuangyin much more relieved. On the 28th, Liu Guangyi changed his position to the Jiedu of Zhenning, Zhang Tinghan was the Jiedu of Zhangguo and the Duhou of the Ma Army, and Li Jinqing was the Jiedu of Baoshun and the Duhou of the Infantry. They all thanked one person: Cao Bin, the general of Pingshu, became the most honored general among the generals of Pingshu: the envoy of Xuanhui South Court and the governor of Yicheng Army.

No one can erase Cao Bin's contributions. Even Wang Renshan, who was fiercely tying his accomplices to protect himself, had to say, "Integrity and fear, and he will live up to His Majesty as an envoy, but Cao Bin is the only one who hears him."

Zhao Kuangyin rewarded Cao Bin heavily, but Cao Bin was unwilling to receive the reward. He felt that so many people were punished, but he was rewarded alone, how could he be at ease? This is an old problem for us Chinese, and we don’t want to be the top. Whether it is good or bad, we like everyone to be happy and sad. Zhao Kuangyin likes such humble people, "You have made merits but no faults, but you don’t boast about merits. If you have any faults, Wang Renshan will have reported it to you. Besides, punishing them is the national legal system. It has nothing to do with you, so don’t refuse." At this time, Cao Bin had gradually reached the forefront of the political and military of the Song Dynasty, and made great strides towards the goal of the first general of the Northern Song Dynasty.

The success of destroying Shu was a huge gain for the Song Dynasty. The large amount of treasures obtained from Shu was ordered by Zhao Kuangyin to transport them from water and land to Kaifeng in batches. According to historical records, these treasures were transported in a total of several years. In March 965, the famous sealing warehouse was built and specially used to store treasures in Shu. In April 966, Sun Fengji was ordered to take special trips to collect books and magic items from Shu Kingdom. On May 11, Sun Fengji returned to Beijing, and all the magic items (including the famous Meng Chang's seven-treasure drowning instrument) were not suitable for use and were burned. The books were sent to the History Museum. In the intercalary August, an edict was issued to the world to solicit books. Anyone who presented books that were not in the History Museum would be given an interview opportunity regardless of their origin. You could become an official after passing the interview.

Zhao Kuangyin was actually a bookworm. Xu Zizhi Tongjian Chang's editor said that Zhao Kuangyin was very taciturn and liked to read books. He could not agree with serious taciturn. He drank a big bowl of wine and ate meat, laughed at others, made friends with bold friends, and was quite wise and roaring. How could Zhao Kuangyin be so stupid? It turns out that the literati who remembered this matter had only seen the serious emperor, but did not see Zhao Kuangyin at the table. Or he wrote it on purpose to defend the tradition of scholars being quick to think and clumsy to speak.

I only took the latter: I only like to read books. At that time, Zhao Kuangyin was Chai Rong's army. Although he was still in the army, he still couldn't put down the volumes. He also liked to collect books. When he heard that there were strange books, he would not hesitate to buy them for a thousand dollars. When he was conquering Huainan, someone complained in front of Chai Rong that Zhao Kuangyin made a fortune in Huainan. More than ten boxes were extremely heavy, and he was afraid that it was full of gold and jewelry. Chai Rong hated corruption the most, so he immediately opened Zhao Kuangyin's box. When he saw that there were thousands of volumes of golden houses: books!

I wondered how much time would it take for Zhao Kuangyin, who was busy with military affairs to finish reading these books? Chai Rong was also wondering, "You are my general, you only need to expand your territory and expand your territory and have strong armor and powerful soldiers. What's the use of getting so many books?" Zhao replied, "I have no strange plans to offer them to the emperor, but I have to take great responsibility. I am afraid that my talents will not be competent, so I read the books, see and increase my wisdom if I have nothing to do." Shizong praised the good.

Now that Zhao Kuangyin has become the emperor himself, it is easier to collect any strange books. All of a sudden, strange books in the world have become popular. In just a while, more than 1,000 volumes were collected.

With the book in hand, Zhao Kuangyin then wanted to make his personal hobby the whole world. And this hobby was related to the big matter of dismounting the horse and governing the country with culture, and how long the Zhao and Song dynasties could stay firm. The world's emphasis on martial arts and over literary style is time to change. In the chaotic world where wars are everywhere, being a soldier has become the only choice. Studying? Unless you are Feng Dao and Feng Laoxian, the probability of a good ending is smaller than that of the soldiers fighting on the battlefield every day. Even Zhao Kuangyin himself was fond of martial arts and literature when he was young.

But how can everyone in the world come to study? Zhao Kuangyin urgently needs to set an example of loving reading. Who? Zhao Pu, the most important official in the court!

In May 966, the palace received a spoil of Shu. This was an old bronze mirror with a history of 44 years. The "Gande Four-Year System" was engraved on the back. Gande was the year name of Zhao Kuangyin, but this year it was still 3 years of Gande? Zhao Kuangyin was so surprised that he asked Zhao Pu. Zhao Pu couldn't answer it. He hated that he was too little when he was in use! Unfortunately, he couldn't access the Internet on Baidu.

Zhao Kuangyin didn't have Baidu either. He called the scholar Tao Gu and Dou Yi looked for the answer. Dou Yi quickly answered, "This must be the relics of the former Shu. The pseudo-Shu Wang Yan had this year's title." It turned out to be something from the former Shu? Zhao Kuangyin sighed, "The prime minister must use scholars."

Dou Yi was very proud, and Zhao Pu was very embarrassed. History says: When Zhao Pu got home, he opened the book box and started reading for a day. After a lot of hard study, he finally made great progress. After entering the court, he often quoted scriptures and answered them like a stream. What book did Zhao Pu read? It is said that the box containing books had never touched Zhao Pu himself. Everyone thought that Zhao Pu had obtained any heavenly books. Until Zhao Pu died, his family opened the box and saw that it was a book called "The Analects of Confucius", which was not complete, only half of it. Therefore, it is called half of the Analects of Confucius. Of course, this is a legend. Zhao Pu could not have been able to control the world by reading half of the Analects of Confucius.

Zhao Pu was flawed in making up for culture, and of course others knew that the emperor was good at writing, and they all wanted to express it in writing. But in this matter, no one was as clever as Lu Duosun, the director of the National Library of the Song Dynasty.

One night in April of the 6th year of Gande (968), it was late at night, the lights were tired, but people were not asleep. The curator was reading. Lu Duosun was a little anxious. Today's book was a bit thick, and he kept seeing it after get off work, and he didn't even have to eat a bite, but time was the way to money. He had to finish reading this book before going to court tomorrow.

The reason is very simple. Today, the emperor sent someone to borrow this book in the museum. The emperor has the habit of learning and selling it. If he suddenly asked about the contents of the book tomorrow, it would be a good opportunity to show off. Sure enough, the emperor really asked the next day that no one in the court could deal with it. Only Lu Duosun, who had read the answer in advance, told the story with evidence and answered it smoothly. The emperor was very happy and his colleagues were collectively convinced.

The emperor studied and the ministers also studied. Then, we naturally had to let the people in the world study. How to do it? Of course, the best way is to let the people in the world see the benefits of reading, a bright road where one can become an official with good academic performance: the imperial examination.

This road was not taken by Zhao Kuangyin, but was a great invention by Emperor Wen of Sui Yang Jian. Emperor Taizong of Tang once sighed that all the heroes of the world came into my mind. But by the beginning of the Song Dynasty, the world was in chaos for too long and the martial artists were rampant in the court. Everything was in trouble, and the imperial examinations naturally belonged to the category that needed to be revitalized.

In March, the imperial examination results were released. Tao Gu's son Tao Bing passed the sixth place in the exam. The next day, Tao Gu felt that his son passed the exam and it was time to thank the emperor. His son has been a disciple of the emperor from now on. But when he thanked him, he had trouble. When Zhao Kuangyin heard this, he heard that you were incompetent in your children, why did your son still pass? Is there something wrong with it? He ordered on the spot: Try again!

Zhao Kuangyin said that Tao Gu could not teach his children was not without evidence. Two years ago, Tao Gu's other son Tao Jian participated in an official children's examination. Tao Gu was busy getting promoted and learning, but he didn't teach his son well. This son was like reading a book of heaven, and he stuttered and had a mess, but was admitted because the examiner was plagued by Tao Gu's face. Later, he was reported that Tao Jian was deprived of his political future for life and Tao Gu was fined two months' salary. After this, Zhao Kuangyin determined that Tao Gu was talented, but his sons were all half a bucket of water.

Did Tao Bing pass the secret examination through secret operations? He was indeed wronged. He was indeed talented and he won the re-examination.

However, after this, Zhao Kuangyin established a new rule: In the future, if the children of civil servants pass the exam, they will be re-examination.

In February, the daughter of Song Yanwo, the governor of Zhongwu, was named the third queen of Song Taizu. On April 6, Zhao Kuangyin's friend, former chief of the guards and the governor of Chengde, passed away. After this incident, the cavalry of the Song Dynasty once again stepped out of the country and continued to conquer the next target.
