Chapter 32: The long wait

At 10 o'clock in the morning, it was the time for Iowa State University to finish class. At this time, due to the crowds, the campus and dormitory buildings suddenly became noisy. It was after hearing these noises that An Jie slowly opened his eyes.

After experiencing that game yesterday, the players and coaches of the Tornado team rushed back to Ames overnight. They had almost exhausted all their energy during the game, and the long-distance running made everyone feel even more tired. It just so happened that there were no classes, no training, and no competition today, so Anjie could only rest until now.

On the bus back yesterday, all the players lowered their heads and remained silent, only Ricard stood in front and encouraged his players.

"We can definitely go to March Crazy! We are the best team in the Big 12. March Crazy exists for a team like us."

However, after the defeat, the players did not respond much to this. No one can say anything that cannot be 100% certain.

Although there is no training today, everyone still has to gather in the gym in the afternoon. Because today, Iowa State University will know if it is qualified to participate in the March Crazy Championship.

When Anjie picked up his phone, he found seven or eight text messages on it. Among them were Wu Hua’s, his father’s, and various comfort text messages from friends. However, there was a name from the person who came from him but Anjie didn’t expect that it was Catherine.

"That little girl, I'm very concerned." An Jie smiled slightly at the phone screen. It was also the first time An Jie smiled after losing the game yesterday.

"Dad, why are you so sad? I think you are even sadder than those players." Catherine was really puzzled when she looked at her father who was frowning even when cooking.

"Hey, you don't have any questions when you see your hometown team lose the key game..." The bearded man stopped abruptly after half of his words. He knew that his daughter could not understand this feeling.

"What's the matter, NCAA has so many teams that can't make it into March Madness every year, and it would be fine if everyone is so sad like you."

Sure enough, Catherine can't be considered a fan at all.

"Schools like MIT will certainly not be sad about not being able to enter March Crazy, because if I move too much on the court, I might destroy a future pillar of America. They are glad that they have not advanced, but it is too late." Just as the father and daughter were quarreling, An Jie suddenly pushed the door and entered.

"Also, thank you for your text message."

"What text message?" The bearded man looked at his daughter with a scammer's eyes.

"Nothing! I'm going to greet the guests!" Catherine walked away embarrassedly, complaining that her father was too sad, but she also sent a text message to comfort Jay. The bearded man knew that he had to be angry to death. Daughter, the water splashed out.

"This girl, by the way, An Jie, when will the result be produced?" The bearded man asked with concern.

"At 2:00 this afternoon, the committee will call Coach Ricard's office to inform us of the results."

"I think we still have a good chance. Think about it, all the No. 1 candidates have lost to us."

"I hope, do those old men in the Wanyi Committee don't like dark horses? Or do you think we have no commercial value?" After calming down at night, An Jie is now much more optimistic than yesterday, but he is still a little nervous.

"If there is a result, please call me as soon as possible. Don't forget our deal. Give me the tickets and I'll give you a free celebration banquet."

"Don't worry, I won't forget about eating a tycoon meal."

................

"Coach, so early? There is no training schedule today." Old Austin just lit a cigarette for himself when he saw Ricard walking towards the gymnasium in formal clothes.

"Come and pack up, the office is too messy." Ricard would not say that he couldn't sit still at home and wanted to go to the office early to guard the phone.

"I heard that the school leaders are going to hold an encouragement party for your team. Most of the people here were not born when the Tornado achieved such a good result in the regular season last time." Old Austin narrowed his eyes and recalled. He remembered the scene when Jeff Senna led the Tornado to fight all over the world when he was a young man. The Tornado really hasn't been so brilliant for a long time.

"Wait until we enter March Crazy, they will worry about the party again." Ricard waved at Old Austin and walked into the empty gymnasium alone.

At 10 o'clock in the afternoon, everyone appeared at the entrance of the gymnasium. In addition to the players, there were also some fans waiting outside.

"All of them come so early? I thought I would be the first one."

"If you weren't crazy, I wouldn't have come. The old men on the committee might still be taking a nap in the warm bed." Anthony Ben said, rubbing his hands that were almost frozen. He had to say such a disagreement for his face.

"Stop talking nonsense here. I think you must have been unable to sleep last night."

The players walked into Ricard's office talking and laughing, but saw the coach sitting in a chair staring at the phone, his eyes bleeding.

"Boss, did you sleep here last night?" Mike Taylor was frightened by Ricard's haggard appearance.

"No, I'll be here at half past ten." Ricard's eyes were still staring at the black phone. "Taylor, give me some takeaway."

The players were waiting in the office. Unlike the time passing quickly on the court, every second in the office seemed particularly tormented during these hours. Some of the players leaned against the wall, slumped in chairs, and kept drawing crosses on their chests to pray for God's blessing. Where is Ricard? His eyes didn't move even during lunch. This atmosphere reminded An Jie of the scene when he and his parents were waiting for the college entrance examination results last year.

Just when the whole audience was silent, Anjie's cell phone suddenly rang. This sudden sound attracted everyone's attention, except for Ricard's.

"Hey, Damanniu." An Jie blinked at everyone after answering the phone.

"Oh, it turns out it's my big black guy." The atmosphere suddenly became a little more active.

"Anjie, turn on my phone and put it on the coach's desk. I'm going to be driven crazy." Morris was no less relaxed on the hospital bed than the players here.

yi3:35, assistant coach Lao Moore rushed into the office with his head in his arms.

yi3:45, Asajin fell asleep on the chair and fell to the ground.

yi3:5o, Cruze was so nervous that he went to the bathroom.

yi3:55, everyone gathered around the small desk and stared at the black phone with Ricard.

"Dingding Dingding Dingding!!!" At two o'clock, the phone ringing suddenly rang, and everyone looked at Ricard. Ricard slowly raised his hand, and his heart was beating wildly.

"Hey, sir." Although he was nervous, Ricard's tone was still very calm.

"Okay, I understand." After two simple sentences, Ricard hung up the phone.

"That's over? It's not even thirty seconds!" Anthony Ben picked up the receiver again in disbelief and put it in his ear, but of course he could not hear anything.

"Coach, we..." Taylor looked at Ricard's cold expression and did not dare to continue asking.

"Everyone." Ricard finally spoke, unable to hear any emotion in his tone. "We have performed very well this season, tied for second in the Big 12, which is the best Iowa State University has achieved in the past decade. I...I am very happy to work with everyone." After saying that, Ricard got up, picked up his coat, ignored everyone's eyes, and walked straight to the office door.

Sure enough, beautiful fantasies do not exist in reality. All the players were silent at this moment, and they returned to the same state they had just lost the game yesterday.

"Also, I almost forgot to tell you." Ricardi stepped out of the office with his foot, but suddenly turned around.

"You have just been invited to participate in the NCAA Crazy March Championship!" Ricard finally couldn't continue acting. He threw away his coat and laughed excitedly.

Everyone looked at each other for a second, and then they all hugged each other, and excited shouts filled the entire empty gymnasium. Old Austin, who heard the echo at the gate, also smiled slightly.

Next time, more than a dozen people carried Ricard out of the gymnasium. They carried Ricard unscrupulously and ran far on the campus. The joyful roar almost disturbed everyone who was having lunch break, but no one complained to them.

"We're selected! We're selected!" Morris also yelled at the other end of the phone on the hospital bed.

"Sir, please calm down." Morris surrounded him with several nurses who were not sure about the situation and came to "celebrate" with him.

"Where are we going, hahahaha." Anthony, who was the most "reserved" just now, couldn't even say anything clearly. He only knew to carry Ricard to run around with everyone, and then echoed everyone's crazy smile.

"Celebration banquet! Celebration banquet! I treat you to Chinese food!" An Jie ran at the end and directed the direction.

"Let's go! I like Chinese food! I like curry rice and other things the most!"

"Idiot, that's RB dish!"

"Uh..." An Jie instantly broke out in a lot of cold sweat.

Are you ready and there are 63 teams left, and the Tornado will continue to destroy the NCAA field!
