Chapter 39 Small Town

"Pu, pu-wow-"

The sound of footsteps was accompanied by the rustling sound of pushing away the bushes with his hands. The owner of the footsteps seemed to be stepping on the grass, crossing the bushes, and heading towards the direction where Mo Yun and Chi Muyun were hiding.

Mo Yun was very sure that this was the sound of human footsteps.

The footsteps of humans are different from those of animals. The footsteps of four-hoofed animals are lighter and denser, while the footsteps of humans are more regular, step by step, and the feet move alternately.

"Who would it be?"

Mo Yun suddenly became nervous.

He now understood that the most frightening thing was not the monster that had already shown its shape, but something completely unknown... In an instant, many possibilities emerged in his mind... a half-human and half-beast monster... a hideous devil... or a werewolf...

He grabbed Chi Muyun's hand and found that her palm was also a little cold.

He looked at her and both of them were ready to fight.

He squeezed the spear in his hand tightly, staring at the direction where the footsteps came.

"Pu-Pu-Pu-Pu-"

The lush bush forest, about ten meters away from the two of them, was suddenly pushed away by a pair of hands, and then a figure stepped out from behind the bush forest and walked towards Mo Yun and the others squatting.

"Is it a person?"

Under the slightly dim sky, Mo Yun looked at the visitor carefully.

Judging from the appearance, this is a tall and thin young man. His skin is brown and naked, but he is surrounded by clothes woven with unknown plants in key areas. The man held an axe in his hand and chopped the plants in front of him along the way. After approaching, Mo Yun saw the strange tattoo printed on his face and chest with paint.

“Looks like native natives.”

Mo Yun's intuition did not react at all, which shows that this person did not threaten him.

"I'm going to stand up..." Mo Yun said in a low voice.

"Okay." The girl nodded slightly.

"Hello--"

Mo Yun put the spear behind him, raised his hands high, and stood up slowly and naturally from the grass.

His movements were as gentle as possible to show that he was not hostile.

"ah!!!"

The young man holding the axe seemed to be startled by the sudden sound, and almost jumped up on the spot. He waved the axe several times before he saw Mo Yun about ten meters away from him and the girl behind Mo Yun.

"Who are you...?!"

The young man asked, in a language that Mo Yun had never heard before.

But what's strange is that he can understand.

"It's the reason for that mysterious existence again..."

Mo Yun has become accustomed to similar things.

"She and I are friends, survivors after the plane crash. When we landed on the east side of the island, we saw the smoke from the west, and walked through the jungle to take a look."

“We have no hostility.”

Mo Yun answered calmly, trying to use a gentle and gentle speed of speech as much as possible.

"Airplane? Survivor..."

As Mo Yun expected, the other party could roughly understand his words.

The young man was stunned for a moment, then repeated Mo Yun's words again, looking at the two of them with a slight look, as if judging something. After about ten seconds, he spoke:

"Where did you come from?"

"The Demon City."

Mo Yun couldn't help but feel happy when he saw that the other party seemed to be able to communicate.

"The Demon City?"

The young man repeated in confusion.

Seeing this, Mo Yun changed his statement:

“We are from the East.”

"Oh, East."

The young man nodded with a "I've heard of it".

"Where is this place? Do you live on this island?" Chi Muyun asked.

"Uh... this is...the island, I live in town."

I don’t know why, but Mo Yun and Chi Muyun didn’t understand the place name the young man said. But Mo Yun heard the keyword “town”.

"Is there a town here?" he asked.

"Yes." The young man nodded and pointed to the gloomy sky again: "It's going to rain, come with me. You can shelter from the rain in the town."

"Great! Thank you!"

Mo Yun and Chi Muyun thanked each other.

"I haven't seen outsiders for a long time."

The young man sighed.

"So that's it. My name is Mo Yun, and her name is Chi Muyun. She is my friend." Mo Yun followed the young man's pace and introduced while walking.

"Hello, friends from the East." The young man smiled, "My name is Luciana Mess."

"Lucana Metz..."

Although Mo Yun didn't hear it very clearly, he should have called this name in general.

He always thought it was difficult to remember Western names, so he simply called the young man who seemed easy to talk to Metz. In order to obtain more information, he took the initiative to ask:

"Mayce, look at your appearance, you should be twenty years old, right?"

"I'm nineteen years old."

Mess smiled, "I see that you are not old."

"Well, it's only a little older than you." Mo Yun nodded, "It's almost evening, why are you here?" He looked around, "I mean, there are jungles everywhere... no one lives there."

"Yes, no one usually comes here." Metz nodded, "I came here, thinking about cutting some firewood and going back to burn the fire." He shook the basket on his back and shrugged helplessly, "I didn't expect it would rain again."

"So that's how it is."

"Actually, you guys are lucky. I was going back," said Mess.

"yes."

But Mo Yun always felt that his words were implicit, so he asked:

"Will taking us back disturb your life?"

"I'm fine, I live alone." Metz shook his head. "I'm just worried that the rest of the town will not welcome you." He thought about it again, "But it shouldn't matter. As long as you are friendly, they won't do anything."

"So that's it. Are there any boats here leading to other places?" Mo Yun asked.

"It should...yes." Mess was stunned for a moment.

"should?"

"Well... our town usually relies on fishing for a living. Every once in a while, people in the town will go out to sea to fish. After each fishing, the food they get can support a long period of life."

"In other words, you can be self-sufficient and have basically no communication with the outside world."

"Yes," said Mess. "I heard from my father that we were originally a very prosperous port city, but with the arrival of the Industrial Revolution, the city rose, the fishery declined, and the nearby waters often had storms, so many people moved away, leaving only a few hundred people in our town... Now the people who stayed are all people who made a living by fishing for generations... It is because of this that we haven't seen a ship coming from outside for a long time."

“Well…a little cold.”

Mo Yun took a breath and felt that the temperature around him was dropping rapidly.

On the west side of the island, it seemed to be colder than on the east side. He estimated that the temperature now was definitely close to zero degrees Celsius, and the white breath he exhaled was visible to the naked eye.

Moreover, it seems that raindrops are beginning to fall in the sky.

The three of them couldn't help but speed up their pace.

About ten minutes later, passing through the gradually sparse jungle, a small town shrouded in quiet gray appeared in front of Mo Yun. Most of the houses in the town are made of wooden, and some are cement houses. The streets in the town are not very wide, and they can accommodate four carriages passing by at the same time.

When Mo Yun saw it, he felt that this was a small town that was heading for decline.

It gave him the impression of sorrow, silence and decline.

"Come with me, I'll take you to my hotel."
