Chapter 11 Landing and Convergence(1/2)

Go to the island, underground base.

This is a dark space. Following the faint yellow light above the head, you can see a slope upward slope leading to the evenly paved top wall of dark cement above the head. This underground base was originally a temporary shelter used for air defense at the Upper Island Airport. After the disaster came, it became the only hope for survivors.

The yellow column of light of the flashlight torn apart the darkness, and a fully armed team moved silently along the slope upwards.

They walked to the end of the top, facing the hard and cold cement walls.

Leng Shanhong looked at the satellite phone in her hand with the light of the flashlight, and the heavy protective helmet blocked most of her vision.

"I have contacted the pilot of the 'Challenger'. The signal connection was successful, but I was greatly disturbed and could not talk to the phone." A voice came from the team.

"What's the situation above?" Leng Shanhong asked.

"I don't know, but it should have all fallen."

"All fall?" she said horrified.

"Yes." Someone behind him replied, "The disaster was too sudden. For safety reasons, the commander ordered the complete closure of contact with the ground. At that time, only a few hundred people fled into the base." The man was silent for a few seconds and continued, "There are hundreds of thousands of residents on the island."

A silence.

After a while, Leng Shanhong pinched the flashlight and looked at a square box above her head. She stretched out her hand, lifted the top cover of the box, revealing a red button.

“Is it here?”

"Yes." The person behind him said, "Press and we can go out."

"I heard that this plant is afraid of fire? Get a flamethrower ready." Leng Shanhong said.

"clear."

"I'll try to contact the people above first." Leng Shanhong took out the satellite phone and dialed the number. At the same time, her right hand pressed on the red button above her head.

Use force.

There was a heavy sound in the darkness, and the electricity and the huge and heavy machine door began to start. The heavy cement wall above the head slowly moved away, revealing the dark sky above the head. Everyone was immediately wrapped in a stream of fresh oxygen, and the sea breeze blew over the face, and the humid air.

"Hey." The phone was connected.

Leng Shanhong took a step forward and looked outside tentatively.

Her pupils contracted, her fingers clenched, and her joints turned white.

...

"Hey?" Mo Yun asked again, "Leng Shanhong?"

"It's me." She spoke a few seconds later.

"What's going on over you now?" Mo Yun asked, "We have been hovering over the island for a while and need your guidance to land. Is the airport safe?"

"The airport has fallen all, and the runway is occupied by a shiny plant." Leng Shanhong said quickly, "Don't land, repeat, don't land!"

"You can fly for an hour at most." Dr. Kawaguchi looked serious.

"Can't you rush down directly?" Connor looked at the island with green light thousands of meters below, stamped his feet, and said irritably.

"Can you clear out a runway? It doesn't take too long." Mo Yun thought for a while and asked.

"Yes, we will open the circuit with a flamethrower." Leng Shanhong said, "It will take about ten minutes."

"Okay, in ten minutes, we will land regardless of whether the runway is cleaned or not." Mo Yun said, "The Challenger needs enough fuel."

"I understand. Just look at our fire." Leng Shanhong hung up the phone.

Mo Yun put down the phone and looked at Connor next to him. He knew that Connor had heard all the conversation he had with Leng Shanhong just now.

"Leng Shanhong, I haven't seen her for a long time." Connor murmured to himself.

"When was the last time you saw her?" Mo Yun asked tentatively.

"It seems to be the time to organize unified training, several years ago." Connor shrugged. "We graduated from the same class at that time. I heard that she was assigned to the island, but I never contacted her later."

"So that's it." Mo Yun nodded.

"However, how could you have her phone number?" Connor said curiously.

"Haha..." Mo Yun did not answer.

Because he can't explain the problem.

"Oh, I understand, she is also from Brother Yun's group." Connor said casually, then turned his head.

"Which party?"

Is there any factional distinction in this "New Century" organization? In this parallel world, what is his relationship with Connor, and what is his relationship with Leng Shanhong? Mo Yun couldn't understand this sentence, so he didn't respond rashly.

"Look, they have started to act." Dr. Kawaguchi said suddenly.

"It seems that the real runway over there." Mo Yun looked at the island below.

When the Challenge was hovering in the air, they had already observed the terrain below. According to Dr. Kawaguchi, the airport here was originally built on the coast, and the entire south side of the island was a large area. The Uchidao base was built directly below the airport. Looking down from a high altitude, it was originally the airport location, and there were rows of staggered lights. Some of the lights were concentrated, looking like emeralds gathered together, and there should be the airport command center and the waiting hall; some of the lights were arranged in parallel, forming obvious trajectories, which seemed to be the indicator lights on both sides of the runway.

But at this moment, the darkest place on the island suddenly ignited a blazing flame. The red and orange flames were like torches lit in the darkness, forming jagged ripples and constantly spreading outwards. The light on the island, which was originally staggered like a spider web, suddenly moved as the flames burned, like wrinkles on the face of an old man, suddenly tightened together. From a high altitude, the originally peaceful island suddenly turned into a twisted face, revealing a hideous face.

At first glance, the entire island seemed to be alive.

"It's indeed a trap." Dr. Kawaguchi murmured.

"What exactly are those things? Plants can glow?" Connor couldn't help but say.

"It seems that in the alert area, this plant itself is also evolving." Dr. Kawaguchi said with a serious expression. "At the beginning, they only had extremely strong reproductive ability, and the subtle spores would enter the human body to grow; but now, they actually shine, and they can imitate human lights and construct traps. This shows that they already have the most basic intelligence."

"Plants have intelligence? Do they have brains?" Connor asked.

"Think about Nepenthes, think about the insectivorous plants similar to it." Dr. Kawaguchi said. "For them, using bait to catch prey is just an instinct. All characteristics are developed by it adapting to the surrounding growth environment. I think the same is true for this plant. It will produce corresponding changes according to the environment near the human gathering place, which may also be a natural evolution. This imitation instinct is actually a manifestation of intelligence."

"Imitation evolution that produces the characteristics of human gathering places?" Connor frowned, "but can the ability of glow evolve in a short time?"

"Usually, plants do not shine. But there are exceptions. For example, I heard that a kind of aloe vera in South Africa will shine. This is related to the nutrients they absorb from the soil. This plant may absorb too much phosphorus and calcium. I heard that the site of the Shangshang Island base was originally chosen because there are very rich phosphate ores here."

Mo Yun listened silently, he never expressed his opinions on these areas that he was not very familiar with.

He raised his hand and looked at his watch.

Eight minutes have passed.

The "Challenger" finally hovered in the air and then began to dive down. The fuselage fell straight, and everyone in the cabin had to grab the handrail. Even though there was a lock behind them and they stuck to their seats, they still felt that they would fly out of the cabin at any time and have a free fall. Dr. Kawaguchi, who had not experienced such aerobatic flight, looked pale and kept muttering to himself, as if he was praying for something.

"This way we can land at the fastest speed." Connor's face was calm, his expression remained unchanged, and he even joked: "Dr. Kawaguchi, relax, your face looks like he's about to die."

Dr. Kawaguchi's face was pale, and he grabbed the handrail tightly with both hands, without returning the mouth.

The plane remained freely in a state of falling for more than ten seconds, and then the fuselage was pulled up and approached the sea surface.

The flames ejected by the engine brought a wave of air, leaving a straight white track on the sea. Then all the lights of the "Challenger" turned on, like a lion with eyes open, illuminating its glittering eyes in the dark. The wings cut through the air, flew sideways and slowed down, and then turned the direction dangerously and dangerously before landing, and landed steadily in a raging fire.

"It's so exciting to land smoothly." Conner let out a long sigh.

Mo Yun noticed that Dr. Kawaguchi beside him had a pale face, tied to the seat by locks, his body trembling constantly, and his condition seemed to be very poor.

He unbuttoned the tightly clamped lock on his waist, stood up, and approached the doctor.

"Doctor, are you okay?"

"I...I feel wrong." Dr. Kawaguchi's Asian face was twisted together. Simple airsickness would not cause such a serious reaction, and Mo Yun immediately realized this.

"What's wrong?" he asked immediately.

"It seems like something is moving... living..." The doctor twisted his body in pain.

"Plant disease." Conner immediately stood up, "Dr. Kawaguchi has contacted many sick people, and it is very likely that he was parasitic before coming." A cold light flashed through his red pupils, "I should have thought of it long ago."

"Doctor, what can I do to help you now?"

"They... are sucking my life, I can feel that they are growing... getting bigger and expanding... I should be out of salvation." Dr. Kawaguchi suddenly stretched out his hand and grabbed Mo Yun's sleeve tightly. His face was pale, his lips were trembling, and the camouflage uniform on his chest kept popping up, as if there was a living creature squirming below. "Promise me, Mr. Mo, you must find a solution...promise me...promise me..."

Mo Yun felt overwhelmed. The "Challenger"'s aerobatic flight just now made him uncomfortable. Who knew that Dr. Kawaguchi, who had just landed, had the most knowledgeable knowledge in the team and knew the most about phytochemical diseases, had actually been infected!

He was nervous, but when he thought of what happened in the last game, he quickly adjusted his state.

"I promise you." Mo Yun looked straight into Dr. Kawaguchi's eyes.

"That's good." The doctor's hand still did not let go. "Kill me... use your knife." His face was pale, but his eyes were firm. "I have seen the scene of phytological patients dying. Those plants will break out of my body and flesh and blood. I don't want to die like that..."

"This..." Mo Yun frowned.

"Why don't I do it." Connor behind him walked over, stretched out his right hand, and a orange-red flame burned.

The young man with red eyes and brown hair held a ball of flame in his hand, as if holding a ball of orange-red marshmallow. Although it looked strange, Mo Yun could feel the huge energy contained in the ball of flame. The corners of his eyes shrank slightly.

"No."

Mo Yun stood up, reached out to take out the silver long sword and held it in his hand. He looked at the pale doctor and calmly said, "Doctor, I will help you with your wishes."

Dr. Kawaguchi's face showed a look of relief and his eyes closed.

Mo Yun sighed in a low voice, then drew his sword.

The orange-red fire burned, shining bright light through the porthole and into the cabin, dyeing the entire cabin a bloody red color. In the blood red, the silver sword light flashed out of thin air like a thunderbolt.

Immediately afterwards, the locks on Dr. Kawaguchi's body were shattered in half at the same time.

A knife flashed, and a ball of plant rhizomes that were constantly squirming were picked out by Mo Yun with a knife. Their bodies were dark green and covered with blood, like some kind of thick vines, or like a tangled snake, looking bloody and weird.
