Chapter 536: Great Again
The era of Xunzi was the era of strong Qin and great Chu. Qi State had already been greatly damaged by the previous alliance between Yan, Qin, Zhao, Wei and Han.
Lianheng and Zong, Lianheng is a big country with a group of small countries, and Hezong is an alliance of small countries. Qi State suffered heavy losses, and Qin State became the Western hegemon for a time because of its annexation of Hanzhong and Shu.
Now all countries are facing a problem. If Qin succeeds in joining forces, then Qin will dominate. If small countries join forces to fight against Qin, then Chu will be promoted.
This brings about the problem of strengthening Qin and Great Chu, because now the Seven Heroes are the largest in size and are also the most likely countries to change the pattern of the Warring States Period.
Qin State now also has a siphon effect, and many talents study at the Jixia Academy of Qi State, but in the end they all went to Qin State.
Xunzi is now in the Jixia Academy to manage the affairs of the Academy. Now the Jixia Academy is full of utilitarianism, because everyone comes to study for fame and fortune, not for knowledge, not for the safety of the world, but for the glory and wealth.
In this case, Xunzi naturally could not continue to agree with Mencius's theory of good nature. As a master of the various schools of thought, he proposed the "theory of evil nature" in a high-profile manner.
It is also very simple to reason about the theory of evil nature. First of all, desire and hate are the same thing, that is, the things that everyone likes are the same, the things that everyone hates are the same, and the standards that everyone likes and hates are the same. Food, beauty, luxury, and comfort are all things that everyone likes. Death, aging, disease, poverty, and hunger are also things that everyone hates.
However, there are many desires but few things, and there are many people who like beautiful things, but very little material things cannot meet everyone's needs. Therefore, the world is in chaos, so from the point of pursuing material desires, we can infer that human nature is inherently evil.
Xunzi wrote "The Twelve Sons" to pull out the twelve scholars representing various schools and scold them. Of course, the main ones are those who have passed away and scold them for misleading their children. Although Confucius does not include them, he is not polite to Confucius' disciples and calls them "bad Confucianism". This bastard is not an adjective, but a verb. It is not to say that Confucius' disciples are lowly Confucian scholars, but to scold them for making Confucianism humble.
Since Confucius' disciples and disciples made Confucianism humble, how to make Confucianism great again? Of course, we must listen to Xunzi.
This is just like Confucius said that the Spring and Autumn Period was too bad, the Yao, Shun and Yu, and the Zhou Gongdan era was good. Confucius praised the ancients and abused the present, and Xunzi did the opposite. He did not say that the ancient times were good, but that the ancient scholars were bad, and that they made Confucianism humble, but that they were in fact competing for the right to interpret good things.
Xunzi's goal is to make Confucianism great again. He should put forward a point of view and make everyone accept it quickly. The most direct way is to curse people. Don't look at what he supports or what he opposes, which can often help everyone understand their opinions.
No wonder Confucians are reluctant to admit Xunzi is a Confucian scholar in the future, and no wonder Xunzi's two most famous students, Li Si and Han Feizi, are both representatives of the Legalists. After all, if they recognize Xunzi, they must also recognize the content of Xunzi's criticism of Confucianism. Then, then the Xunzi lineage will be authentic Confucianism, and other Confucian branches will become "bad Confucians". Who can bear this?
The final result was that Xunzi's most outstanding disciple became a Legalist. Not only did Xunzi not become the most authentic Confucianism, but he was almost expelled from Confucianism. After all, no one could stand his master being called a "bad Confucianism". The master being a bad Confucianism, so why don't they be a bad Confucianism? To admit Xunzi, he just scolds himself.
In order to prove that he was good and correct, Xunzi first criticized the previous scholars and told everyone not to learn from them, but to learn from himself.
"Make Confucianism great again." Yun Yao said that he was very ambitious, and Xunzi was indeed separated from the moral consciousness of Confucius and Mencius, but presupposes the evil of human nature first. This is indeed very progressive, but the rest is all the dregs of Confucianism.
Yunyao came to the mortal world again. This time she was alone. Because she was about to go to the Heavenly Court to attend the Peach Banquet, the time was tight, so she mainly chose a group of people. After they died, they could go to Zhucheng to study and then participate in the Tianguan Imperial Examination.
Yunyao came to Jixia Academy again. Although the school used to be the students who made a name for themselves, they were not as popular as they are now. Now everyone is just for fame and fortune. Especially after many successful cases, these students are eager to try and use any means.
When Yun Yao came, Xunzi was dealing with some fake books.
Li Si and Han Fei are also helping, including "Junni's Sayings".
"This set of bamboo slips must be written specifically for the purpose of targeting the teacher," Li Si said: "Han Fei, you are a Korean nobleman with a large collection of books. Have you ever heard of such strange and strange theories?"
Han Fei was knowledgeable and had read this set of bamboo slips before: "I have read it. Although it is based on Confucius' name, it has nothing to do with gentlemen or morality, it is all strange and strange theories. Moreover, it is a dialogue between Confucius and female disciples. The content is bizarre and difficult to ponder, so I just treat it as a pastime." The form of "Chongni Shuoli" is like "Chongni Shuoli" and is also conducted through the dialogue between Confucius and students. However, it is not recognized in the Analects of Confucius that Confucius had a female disciple, but most of the content in "Chongni Shuoli" is a dialogue between Confucius and female disciples, and it is dominated by female disciples. Instead, Confucius is like a student.
"The teacher said that there are too many desires but few things, so we must clearly divide the group. However, "Zhongni Shuoli" says that everyone can be turned into princes with techniques similar to the Mohist arts, so that everyone can have endless food, endless cloth, and countless livestock. If there are too many desires and many things, then the teacher's opinion is in danger. I think the author of this fake book does not have a bad intention." Li Si said.
Han Fei said: "It is true, but these methods are simply impossible to achieve. The Mohist school, who is best at institutions, cannot make people live such a life, let alone the fantasy of fake books."
The clear division of the group is Xunzi's countermeasure to the need to be too many things. "Separation" here refers to identity. The group means building a society. Therefore, it is actually the same as Confucius said, but he believes that Confucius' name correction is no longer useful, and he should be corrected again now. That's why Xunzi scolded Confucius' disciples, started over and determined his social status through new etiquette.
So since everyone is a bad person, who will set up new etiquette and who will be the savior? Xunzi believes that he is a gentleman.
Xunzi believed that a gentleman could rebuild etiquette. A gentleman could release a character from the inside out by cultivating himself. A gentleman with such a character could set up new etiquette and push the world back on track.
So where does a gentleman come from? Come to cultivate oneself, how does a self-cultivation come from? Follow etiquette. Where does a gentleman come from? Come to cultivate oneself, where does a gentleman come from? Come to cultivate oneself, where does a etiquette come from...
There is a question on Xunzi's side, that is, whether there is etiquette first or gentleman first, it is like having chicken first or egg first, which cannot be solved at all.
