Chapter 588 Military Exercises

Because of some things that happened back then, the southern cluster of the Soviet Union has always existed in this historical and space-time period. The garrisons are mainly responsible for Hungary and Romania. It can be said that the Soviet army in Romania is not strong. In fact, except for the Western clusters, the Soviet Union has not many garrisons, and the combined forces are not as strong as Western clusters. There are less than 80,000 garrisons in Romania, and even fewer garrisons in Romania.

The command of the Southern Cluster is in the Konstanta area on the border of the Soviet Union. The commander is General Provalov. General Provalov is generally in Hungary, and the command of the Southern Cluster is in Hungary. Because Hungary almost broke away from the Soviet Union's control, the command bodies of the Southern Cluster are generally there, and Romania is a backup command.

Constanta is bordered by the Black Sea and has ports and trade with the Soviet Union, so it is also the most economically developed region in Romania. It is a very good place to connect to the Danube River Basin to the west. The Soviet army stationed in Romania has a strict scope of activity and guarantees not to interfere in Romania's internal affairs. But in fact, as long as the Soviet army has always existed, the possibility of interference in internal affairs will always exist.

"Comrade General Political Commissar, do you know if there is any work to be issued when you come here from Moscow this time?" General Provalov welcomed Selov to the command center and asked about his purpose this time.

"Given his reputation, during his visit to Romania, Charles de Gaulle came here specifically to let Ceausescu pay attention to the existence of the Soviet Union." Selov stretched and walked to the window. This was a good place. In fact, due to the land area, the gap between the rich and the poor in these Eastern European countries is even lower than that of the Soviet Union. Of course, it does not mean that socialist countries can even level the gap between the rich and the poor. Yugoslavia cannot do this. The wealth of the most developed areas of the Soviet Union is about seven times that of the poor. Yugoslavia's data is even larger than that of the Soviet Union.

"After Ceausescu came to power, his relationship with us obviously turned cold. This time, inviting France's Charles de Gaulle to visit was obviously a demonstration against us, so we must make some reaction and inform Bucharest that from tomorrow, the Soviet troops in Romania will start a three-day military exercise, and the Romanian army is welcome to participate."

If the Warsaw Pact countries are not counted as the Soviet Union, then the largest army is Poland, and the second largest one is the Romanian People's Army. Of course, except for the Soviet army, the general Warsaw Pact countries' equipment cannot be considered advanced. This cannot be blamed on the Soviet Union. Who made these countries fall behind before? In addition to the unique military uniforms, the Romanian People's Army is no different from other Warsaw Pact countries, but the number of people is a little larger. This is also in line with the population of Warsaw Pact countries. Apart from Poland, Romania is the second largest country with the Warsaw Pact population.

During the great changes in Eastern Europe, this army basically did not play any role, just like its peers from other allies. The military power that really fought for Ceausescu until the last moment was the KGB, the security forces of the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs established by Sakhatovsky, and the Romanian People's Army, which was almost several times its own, fought until the death of Ceausescu and his wife.

During the reign of Ceausescu, Romania did not allow Warsaw Pact troops to enter Romania for live-fire exercises. It was obvious that it was afraid that Czechoslovakia would repeat itself, but that happened after the evacuation of the Soviet troops. In the world where Serov lived, the Soviet army never evacuated.

On May 15, a special plane carrying French President Charles de Gaulle slowly landed at the Bucharest People's Airport. Ceausescu and his wife went to the airport to greet Charles de Gaulle. The two sides were very friendly and arrived at the hotel arranged by Ceausescu for Charles de Gaulle. On the same day, the Soviet army in Romania announced that it would start military exercises and invite the Romanian People's Army to participate.

Hundreds of T54 tanks left the Soviet army's barracks. They were filled with the breath of steel. Behind them were Soviet armored personnel carriers, self-propelled artillery and towed artillery, forming a spectacular scene of more than ten kilometers. The dust splashed during the process of marching covered the sky and the armed helicopters in the sky kept hovering. As long as someone took a look, he would feel that he could not organize such an army to advance. If it was an enemy, it would undoubtedly be crushed.

As the General Political Commissar of National Security and the National Defense Commissioner, Selov delivered a speech to the Soviet soldiers participating in the exercise, "The world today is far from being in peace. In the distant Southeast Asia, local residents are bombarding conservative imperialism. In the Middle East imperialist agent, Israel cruelly treats the local Arabs. As the African continent where human origins originate, all kinds of dictators are rampant on the earth. Those at the bottom of society are looking forward to a day of change. Who can save them? Only you, the glorious and fearless Soviet soldiers. We were born in the great and glorious October Revolution. The lofty mission made our experience shine brightly. After the cruel Patriotic War, the great Red Army can always defeat the enemy, just like the great Soviet Union, Ula..."

"Ula, Ula, Ula!" Tens of thousands of Soviet soldiers below shouted in unison, dispersing in the performance of the military band. The gathering in the distance had been completed. The neat and out of sight of the Soviet military equipment was slowly starting and the exercise officially began.

"Is it called exercise to get out a few hundred people and bring a few tanks? That's called acting. If we don't show the armed forces of the Soviet Union, some people would think that we have achieved nothing in so many years." After saluting all the soldiers and watching them leave, Selov, who came down to the rostrum, took off his gloves and said plainly to the commander of the Southern Cluster, General Provalov, "What a pity, if it's in China, we can simulate a nuclear raid and put two atomic bombs to simulate a nuclear war."

The Soviet opponents were not afraid of the Soviet Red Navy at all, at least in this era. Moreover, as long as the Red Navy develops nuclear submarine forces, the biggest threat to that thing is to hide. It is not a good exercise project. What the Soviet opponents were afraid of was the ground power of the Soviet Union, and even ordinary people could see the ground power at a glance, and remember the shocking scene immediately.

Selov and the commander of the Southern Cluster, General Provalov, immediately boarded the armed helicopter and followed the slowly but indestructible torrent of steel in the sky. The momentum was reflected in all aspects. It was in the soil from the tank tracks, the roar of the engine, the expressions of the Soviet soldiers in the armored personnel carrier, and even the blade with the cold light on the traction gun muzzle.

The acting project of the Southern Cluster is still a large-scale attack that the Soviet Union is good at. However, in order to take care of Ceausescu's emotions, the direction of this large-scale attack is towards the Soviet border. The Soviet troops stationed in the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic, as the defensive side, confronted the Soviet troops stationed in southern Romania.

Blitzkrieg is a tactic of putting hope on an offensive, while a large-scale assault requires more preparation and more armored forces to form continuous strikes. Therefore, blitzkrieg is Germany's combat method under overall disadvantage, while a large-scale assault is the Soviet Union's advantageous strategy, just like the tide of the sea, one wave higher than another.

This military exercise of the southern cluster immediately attracted various interpretations. Many newspapers believed that the Soviet Union used this military exercise to warn Ceausescu, who invited Charles de Gaulle to visit.

But Charles de Gaulle's reaction was faster than Romania. Since Charles de Gaulle came to power, France has obviously been able to make trouble than before he took power. Charles de Gaulle used everything to make his presence known for France. Many hot events, the United States and the Soviet Union have not yet expressed their opinions, but suddenly found that France had already given comments. From the perspective of creating a big news, Charles de Gaulle was far better at it than the prime ministers of his time.

"This action of the Soviet military is unnecessary. The friendly relations between France and Romania are determined by the friendly feelings of the people of the two countries and national interests. This should not be interfered by a powerful country. From this exercise, I can only see the timidity of the Soviet military. No matter how much steel it is, it cannot hide the fragile hearts of some people." In Bucharest, the Romanian capital, Charles de Gaulle expressed his opinions on the exercise to the receptionists in Romania.

"Romania will only choose friends according to its own interests. Of course, it respects the Soviet Union, but Romania still has to consider the issue from its own standpoint." Ceausescu finally left room for comment on this exercise. I believe that if it weren't for the Soviet garrison in Romania, he would definitely not have let the Soviet Union go so easily.

"I hope you can accept reality and be calm now." Selov just received a telegram forwarded by Ruby Yangka. There were two more important things. First, I talked about the situation within France. Some French political parties officially came to the front desk. Several professional politicians in the marching were: Socialist Mitterrand, Mengdes Farrans, French Communist Party leader Valde Croche, etc. The KGB had contacted France through the Fifth Division in France, and Central Committee Member George Marshall.

Another thing is Sakhatovsky's password telegram, which shows that he had arranged personnel in Bucharest and got the itinerary for the next week, preparing to make De Gaulle sick at the appropriate time.
