Chapter 217 I am invincible, kill 22

Last night, the Japanese army stole chickens but lost rice, so on the 28th, blocked and bombed the Hupi Mountain position and used aircraft to carry out retaliatory bombing.

Due to continuous combat, there were a large number of Japanese corpses left in front of the position. The temperature in Xuzhou area was abnormal and very hot this year, and the Japanese corpses began to rot. Due to the Japanese artillery and bombing, these corpses could not be transported away, so the positions were stinky.

But the stinky position is also beneficial. Since then, the Seya Detachment of the 10th Division has never launched a ground attack on Hupishan again.

The 10th Japanese Division suffered continuous setbacks in the Hupi Mountain position. This time they finally focused their attack on the Second Division.

The position of the Second Division is connected to the position of the 25th Division, and is on the right wing of the 25th Division of Hupishan. The attack on the Second Division is the Sakamoto Detachment of the Japanese Fifth Division.

On May 1, hundreds of Japanese infantry launched a fierce attack on the front line of Liuzhuang, the Second Division, under the cover of firepower of aircraft and cannons.

The commander of the Second Division was Zheng Dongguo, a famous anti-Japanese general.

Zheng Dongguo, a native of Shimen County, Hunan Province, graduated from Huangpu First Class and is known as the "elder" in the Huangpu Group. Zheng Dongguo was born in 1903 and did not have the age of an elder in Huangpu First Class. He is known as the "elder" because he has a broad mind and broad temperament. Zheng Dongguo uses military service steadily and boldly, and is good at night attacks, and is the best among Huangpu First Class students.

The Japanese army's attack was fierce, but the Second Division of Zhengdong Kingdom was not a weak person. The defenders of Daliuzhuang had long built solid fortifications. On the one hand, they resisted tenaciously with the fortifications, and on the other hand, they continued to send small groups of elite troops to attack the side back of the Sakamoto Detachment.

Under the active defense of the Second Division, the Japanese army's attack was very powerful, but the casualties were even greater, and they eventually had to retreat.

On May 2, the Japanese army once again attacked Da Liuzhuang, but in front of the strongest defenders, Sakamoto's detachment once again repeated the first day's defeat.

After failing to attack for two consecutive days, Sakamoto's detachment changed its attack method. On the evening of May 2, the Japanese army used the night as cover and sent some troops to quietly approach the defending positions and lurked on the spot.

At dawn on the third day, the Japanese planes and cannons suddenly bombed the Second Division's positions, and the lurking Japanese army suddenly launched a wave charge with the cover of the plane cannons.

The second division of Zhengdong Kingdom was also experienced for a long time. They were good at fighting tough battles. Although the Japanese army's sudden attack was beyond their surprise, after experiencing the initial panic, the defenders immediately organized themselves. They picked up the weapons in their hands and responded to the Japanese with the most fierce firepower. The Japanese army was killed and injured.

What is most needed for close-range combat is automatic weapons that can be fired continuously, which are exactly what both sides of the offense and defense are missing. The Japanese wavy charge, regardless of casualties, achieved results in the third wave. Some Japanese troops rushed into the defenders' positions, and the two armies launched large-scale hand-to-hand combat.

When the two sides strangled together, the Japanese army stopped the artillery fire for fear of accidentally hurting their soldiers. The artillery fire on the 25th Division on Hupi Mountain promptly supported the Second Division. The artillery soldiers blocked and fired the Japanese follow-up troops, and the Japanese follow-up troops were bombed to pieces.

The Japanese who rushed into the Daliuzhuang position became a group of isolated troops, and the defenders of the Second Division gradually gained the upper hand with their number advantage. The two sides fought fiercely until noon, most of the Japanese were annihilated, and a small number of Japanese fled in panic.

The Japanese army attacked Daliuzhuang and suffered losses, so they had to suspend the attack to replenish their forces. In order to maintain the spirit of the troops, the Second Division also rotated the defenders of Daliuzhuang to the Seventh Regiment commanded by Liu Yuzhang.

Two days later, after the supplementary Japanese army changed the focus of the attack, they launched a key attack on the right wing of Daliuzhuang. After a day of fierce fighting, the Japanese army captured a small village guarded by a battalion of the Second Division.

On May 6, the Japanese army launched an attack from three directions of Daliuzhuang. Liu Yuzhang's Seventh Regiment persisted and repelled the enemy's attacks again and again. The Daliuzhuang's position remained standing.

In order to facilitate the attack on the Second Division, the Japanese army built fortifications in the wheat fields in front of the Daliuzhuang position overnight. It was definitely a huge threat to stay in front of the position at such a close distance. Zheng Dongguo made a quick decision and immediately transferred the division reserve team to cooperate with the Seventh Regiment of the Daliuzhuang to launch a large-scale night attack on the Japanese army from both wings.

The decisive attack of the Second Division hit the proud Japanese army hard. In the early morning of the second day, the Japanese army in front of the position collapsed, with more than 200 bodies left in front of the position, and the rest fled.

After this battle, Seya Detachment and Sakamoto Detachment no longer dared to launch an attack on the 52nd Army. They only used sporadic artillery fire to constrain the main force of the 52nd Army.

The 52nd Army's battle on the Xuzhou battlefield was the pinnacle of Guan Linzheng's military career. Chiang Kai-shek said in a speech: "If the Chinese army is as strong as the 52nd Army, it is no problem to defeat the Japanese army." A true brave man will also be respected by his opponents. After the war, Seishiro Itagaki commented on the 52nd Army: "Guan Linzheng's 52nd Army should be regarded as ten armies of ordinary Chinese army."

The Fifty-two Army confronted the Japanese army on the Hupi Mountain, but the situation on the battlefield in Xuzhou took a sharp turn.

On the side of the National Army, the Second Army, the 22nd Army, the 51st Army, the 60th Army, the 92nd Army and others successfully blocked the enemy's attack along the canal south of Hanzhuang and the Aishan north of Pi County. However, these elite troops of the National Army were stalemate with the enemy's positional warfare. Almost all the mobile strike forces of the National Army were passively defending, and the Xuzhou battlefield lost the initiative on the battlefield.

In terms of the Japanese army, the 6th Division of the Japanese army captured Hefei, eliminating the worries of the main force of the Central China dispatched troops going north; the ninth and the thirteenth regiment captured Mengcheng, and after the important town of Yongcheng, one raided Huangkou on Longhai Road, and the other advanced to Xiaoxian area forty miles southwest of Xuzhou; the 101st Division of the Japanese army in northern Jiangsu captured Gaoyou and Baoying, and actively advanced westward to Pi County to encircle Xuzhou; the 16th Division in the northern section of the Jinpu Road captured Yutai, Jinxiang and Fengxian; the 14th Division crossed the Yellow River near Pu County, conquered Yuncheng, Yingcheng, Heze, and Cao County, and threatened Lanfeng area, which cut off the contact between the first and fifth war zones of the Chinese army; the Japanese army was north of the canal bypassing Taierzhuang, crossing Weishan Lake and occupied Pei County, and its vanguard troops were only more than ten miles away from Xuzhou.

Xuzhou was surrounded by Japanese troops. In order to preserve the strength of the War of Resistance, the Supreme Command issued an order to retreat.

On May 10, the positions of the 52nd Army were handed over to the Second Army to defend. On May 13, the 52nd Army was ordered to return to Guide to replenish the situation, and the 25th Division withdrew from the Xuzhou battlefield from then on.
