Chapter 360 Big Deal

The British Embassy's specialist came to Lin Zixuan to discuss cultural exchanges.

Once things involving two countries are involved, they need to become formal and have certain regulations. The British have to report this matter to the British Ministry of Culture, so they must first reach some consensus.

Now that the Northern Expedition Army has not yet captured Shanghai, Sun Chuanfang has no time to deal with these matters, and the Beiyang government is even more in chaos.

The British Embassy had to contact Lin Zixuan, and Lin Zixuan was responsible for this matter anyway.

To be honest, Lin Zixuan doesn't like this arrangement, and he hopes to promote Chinese culture in the form of folk.

He had a kind of rejection of official channels and did not want to involve political factors. The British's purpose of promoting cultural exchanges was obvious, just to alleviate the Chinese hatred of them.

Lin Zixuan is not willing to accept this kind of exchange, but other bookstores don’t think so.

The official invitation from the British government is two different concepts: the official invitation from the British government and the self-running over, and the grade and treatment will be very different.

Since the British are willing, why don't we do it?

At the conference within the Shanghai publishing industry, most people agreed with the proposal of the British Embassy.

Lin Zixuan knew the difference between the official and the people. With the support of the British Ministry of Culture, the book fair has created a momentum in London, which is very beneficial to various publishing houses in Shanghai.

In order to promote Chinese culture, he had to let go of his grudges and agree to this official cultural exchange.

This is how life is. Many times, we cannot follow our own ideas. For better purposes, we need to constantly compromise.

The next time is to prepare.

After discussing with the British Embassy's commissioner, the previous plan had to be overturned. This was an official event after all, and the scale of the book fair was several times larger than it was at the beginning.

With the endorsement of the British government, Shanghai publishing houses were relieved and worked overtime to rush to produce new books.

There is also a bookstore that wants to delay the book fair until the second half of the year so that there is enough time to prepare.

Lin Zixuan was never compatible. He found that once things were beyond control, all kinds of unpleasant scenes would occur.

No matter what others do, he will definitely leave Shanghai in late March.

Because he wanted to attend the International Writing Association, he wanted to find domestic writers to accompany him. This was an opportunity to communicate with famous writers from Europe and the United States. He could not be the only one.

He also wants to introduce Chinese writers to the world literary world.

People who travel with them should know English, have writing skills, and be good at communication...

Xu Zhimo is naturally the first choice. He has many friends in the UK, with a vast range of friends and a very literary talent.

The next one is Yu Dafu, who left Guangzhou in December 1926. He returned to Shanghai, edited the Bimonthly of "Fund" and "Creation Monthly", and presided over the affairs of the Creation Society Publishing Department.

In January 1927, he published an article "The Guangzhou Event" in the bimonthly issue of "Flood".

This article caused a great response because Yu Dafu exposed the various shortcomings of the Guangzhou National Government in the article.

"In fact, there are only a few people in the national government that have influenced the overall political situation, and a few great men of the previous century who are indifferent to the people. Under their rule, Guangzhou is of course still an old society that has not been transformed."

Regarding this article, there were serious differences within the Creation Society. Guo Moruo and Cheng Fuwu both wrote letters to criticize Yu Dafu.

Cheng Fangwu wrote: "I only preview here that "Fund" will pay special attention to the selection of manuscripts. I would rather stop publishing immediately than have such texts published."

Yu Dafu is a person with true nature. He thinks he has to say something and can be regarded as a radical.

He stayed in Guangzhou for more than half a year and saw all kinds of dark sides. He didn't vomit and thought he was not wrong.

However, at the moment when the Northern Expedition was in full swing, this article was very inappropriate and inevitably criticized.

This should be the beginning of the division of society.

Lin Zixuan pulled Yu Dafu to the UK in order to temporarily keep him away from the whirlpool of public opinion and wait until the matter is calmed down.

He appreciates Yu Dafu's outspokenness because he cannot do so without scruples or hypocrisy.

Lin Zixuan knew that he could not become a person like Luxun and Yu Dafu, but it did not prevent him from protecting Yu Dafu.

In March, the war entered its final stage. The Northern Expedition Army divided into three groups to attack Shanghai and Songjiang, surrounded Suzhou by Yixing and captured Pudong by Ningbo.

The concession was pulled up with barbed wire and closed completely, leaving only a few passages. It is strictly forbidden to enter and exit without a pass.

On March 12, various groups in Shanghai held an interim citizen congress to elect the temporary executive committee.

It is proposed to organize a meeting of citizens' representatives, be controlled by the National Government, accept the Shanghai regime, and build an elected municipal government.

On March 21, Shanghai workers held the third armed riot and the Northern Expedition Army entered Shanghai.

On March 22, at 2 pm, the Ximen Public Stadium held a meeting of Shanghai citizens to welcome the Northern Expedition Army, with 500,000 people attending.

At this point, the war around Shanghai has finally ended.

The publishing industry in Shanghai is ready to take a large number of books to the UK for cultural exchange activities on March 29.

It was on this day that Song Ziwen came to Shanghai.

His main purpose of coming to Shanghai was to attack the Jiangsu and Zhejiang consortiums. To put it bluntly, he asked the bank for money as military pay.

Before leaving, Lin Zixuan met Song Ziwen and handed him over the information he had sorted out about the US economic crisis.

Song Ziwen is a Ph.D. in economics at Columbia University and has worked in a bank on Wall Street. After looking through it, he understood Lin Zixuan’s plan and couldn’t help but stare at Lin Zixuan.

The meaning is obvious, are you kidding?

Lin Zixuan explained to the Finance Minister of the Guangzhou National Government very seriously. He asked Song Ziwen to read the information first and wait until he came back from the UK.

Whether to do this big deal depends on Song Ziwen's decision. If Song Ziwen doesn't do it, he will do it alone.

"How much are you going to pay?" Song Ziwen asked.

"One million." Lin Zixuan said a relatively conservative number.

This is what he planned to invest in the US stock market in 1929.

Of course, if the power of the country is supporting him, he doesn't mind investing more, which is a high-return investment.

Song Ziwen fell silent. He originally thought Lin Zixuan was joking, but it didn't look like that. They were all people with identities and wouldn't be so bored that they joked about such things.

In other words, Lin Zixuan is very sure of a crisis in the US economy.

Then he remembered that Lin Zixuan, like him, graduated from economics, but was usually covered up by the halo of writers.

But he would not believe Lin Zixuan's one-sided words. He needed to carefully study the feasibility. After all, this matter involves the economies of the two countries, so he should be very cautious.
