Chapter 3 The Great Prophet

Lin Zixuan, who was full of accomplishment, put the manuscript paper in his leather bag, and prepared to go out.

He had already planned to find an international student studying literature to be a translator.

There are probably several types of people who can come to study in the United States in this era.

One type is international students with official fees, and the state provides scholarship funds. Most of their learning directions are industrial science.

Another type is rich families. Most of them go to foreign countries to broaden their horizons and learn economics and finance.

Some people come to study abroad. They have a wide range of interests and want to dabble in everything. They travel around major universities in Europe and the United States. They don’t care much about degrees, but just for interest.

In the early years of the Republic of China, Western learning advanced eastward, and the atmosphere of studying abroad became increasingly prosperous.

There are many international students from China in New York who are far away from their hometowns and come to strange places. These international students are more united, often gather and help each other.

Lin Zixuan met an international student studying literature at New York University. When he was chatting, this guy would recite poems and comment on the current literary status at home and abroad.

He is passionate and feels more reliable when he is instructed.

Besides, he doesn't understand English, so he can still tell whether the translation is good or bad.

Lin Zixuan put on a suit and prepared to take a walk to New York University.

He realized that something was wrong when he was looking in the mirror. He had been staying for so many days, and his face was haggard and his beard was unshaven.

This is not later generations, you can go shopping in pajamas. In this era, as a scholar and a person with status, you must pay attention to your appearance, otherwise you will be despised.

He washed his face, shaved his beard, tidied his hair, and left the apartment.

When I arrived on the street, got on the bus, and looked at the foreigners around me, it felt very novel.

This is the first time he has carefully observed the life around him since he traveled through time. This is the United States in the 1920s, and it is in a period of rapid development.

The United States has never been a paradise, especially for ethnic minorities, where racial discrimination is everywhere, and there is no black man on this bus.

Lin Zixuan remembers the speech by Martin Luther King, "I Have a Dream".

He wanted to write it out so that he could become famous quickly and win the friendship between black people, but he would just forget it. It was too dangerous and it would not be worth it if he was assassinated.

With such random thoughts, he came to New York University.

The international student who studied literature was named Ji Hongming. He was born in a former Qing official family and had a Jinshi from his ancestors. He often spoke of him and was proud of him.

Originally, Lin Zixuan, a rich child, was not short of money or stingy. He was righteous and had a good reputation among international students.

When the two met, Lin Zixuan handed over the manuscript to each other.

Ji Hongming looked at the pen letters on the manuscript and couldn't help but shake his head.

Although they are international students and go abroad to study Western culture, if they write Chinese, most of them use brushes, which can show their knowledge. Therefore, he is not very satisfied with Lin Zixuan's pen calligraphy.

After reading a page or two patiently, he put down the manuscript.

"Brother Zixuan, your article is too straightforward and without literary talent, so it is unlikely to succeed." Ji Hongming said bluntly.

As a literati who studies literature, he felt that he was speaking more tactfully, which gave Lin Zixuan face. What he wanted to say was that who would read this kind of straightforward vernacular? Is the story of an old man going fishing interesting?

Lin Zixuan was stunned for a moment, a little disbelief.

He excitedly brought world-class classics to get endless praise and praise, but he didn't expect that he would get a basin of cold water.

Too straightforward and unliterary?

He suddenly realized that this is the generation gap of the times!

In this era, although the use of vernacular Chinese began to be advocated in China, literati usually intersects with vernacular writing when writing articles, which is an excessive period from classical Chinese to vernacular Chinese.

"The Old Man and the Sea" written by Lin Zixuan is a translated work from later generations. Compared with the literati of this era, they are all in plain language and easy to understand, so naturally they are not very literary.

In other words, Lin Zixuan's articles are too thorough and do not conform to the reading habits of people in this era and are despised.

The road to plagiarism is really hard to go!

Lin Zixuan lamented in his heart.

"Brother Hongming, I am trying to cater to the reading tastes of Westerners. I write too profoundly and I am afraid they won't understand it." Lin Zixuan found a reason for fooling him.

"Yes, Westerners attach great importance to storylines and do not pay much attention to words, so it is difficult to understand the beauty of rhythm of literature." Ji Hongming agreed.

"I have to bother Brother Hongming to translate so that Westerners can see the charm of oriental characters." Lin Zixuan took the opportunity to flatter.

These words made Ji Hongming feel much more relieved, so that his talent can be shown.

Even if this matter was agreed, it did not talk about compensation. It was just helping. It hurts the relationship when talking about money. However, Lin Zixuan still invited Ji Hongming to have a big meal in a restaurant.

Back at the apartment, Lin Zixuan began to prepare for leaving New York.

He spent two years at Columbia University and had already obtained a bachelor's degree, but he had been delaying his desire to return to China, which led to the current situation.

To get a degree in economics, he also needs to submit a graduation thesis to the professor.

What should I write?

Lin Zixuan kept thinking that he had no interest in economics and had no idea how to start.

So he began to search for questions about the US economy in his mind, and suddenly he saw that the US economy entered the Great Depression in 1929.

At that time, most people, including the country, believed that the economy would continue to flourish.

Unexpectedly, the stock market collapsed overnight and the economy fell into a crisis. This crisis even affected other industrial countries in the world, and the whole world was in an economic collapse.

It can be said that this is an important source of the outbreak of World War II.

As a time traveler, Lin Zixuan felt it was necessary to write this matter out, which on the one hand satisfies the time traveler's psychology of controlling the future, and on the other hand, it also reminds the whole world.

Of course, he knew that what he wrote as an international student would not be taken seriously, especially in the context of the increasingly prosperous American economy, it would be considered an unscrupulous worry.

But when the Great Depression really happens a few years later, let’s look at his graduation thesis. A prediction as accurate as a prophecy will definitely cause a sensation in the world.

Maybe he will be awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics.

Just thinking about it makes me excited.

Lin Zixuan was full of energy. After plagiarizing world famous works, he began to extend his hands to the economic field.

The entire paper took only three days to complete, and he could handle it without any literary talent when writing the paper.

Generally speaking, when writing a paper, you need to analyze and study it from various materials and finally draw a conclusion, but when he knows the conclusion, he just needs to find evidence to supplement it.

The result was obvious that when he handed over the paper, it did not attract attention.

The professor believes that this is Lin Zixuan's random thoughts and is completely impossible. When the US economy is taking off, it is still a long way from collapse, but he advocates students to think divergently.
